When you finish school …
a)Do you know exactly what you’ll
do?
b)Have a pretty good idea?
c)Only some vague ideas?
d)Haven’t got a clue?
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
How do you decide ????• Roll the dice, “Hakuna Matata”
• Have an educated guess
• Spend time talking to others, soul searching,
investigating options
• Do what I’m told
• And the best answer is …………..

Talk, Think, Investigate
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
Talk, Think, Investigate
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
• THINK … about what?
• (this is ‘personal’ – there is only one person
who can accurately do this – YOU! )
• my skills / talents
• where I want to be in 10 years from now
(yep – that means you’ll be 24!)
• what I believe in …my values
• my dreams
Talk, Think, Investigate
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
INVESTIGATE …huh? Read about jobs – e.g. JOBGUIDE
Spend time checking library resources
Checkout the many websites
www.studentconnect.qcaa.qld.edu.au/
Look at print / video / DVD sources
Go visit the workplace / institution
Regarding Your Feelings ...
It’s normal to feel a bit
overwhelmed by all the
information
Normal to feel unsure / anxious
Normal to feel cool / clear /
confident
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
Some Guidelines
• keep your options open
• have in mind possible post-Year 12
options
• for most kids, zeroing in on one choice
happens in the latter part / end of Year
12
• have some ideas about possible jobs
• what’s predicted to grow? shrink?
stay the same?CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
More Guidelines
What does Chancellor College offer?
• read the Subject Selection Handbook
• talk to teachers and Heads of Department
• ask students currently studying a subject you’re interested in what they think of it
• check out the books and materials used in a particular subject
Choose subjects for sound, sensible reasons
The following are NOT good reasons to choose a subject ...
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
“Doh” Reasons!
• my friends are all doing this subject
• that subject has an awesome teacher
• mum/dad/bro/sis etc. said I must take
this subject
• everyone says … that subject is a real
bludge
• only girls do that subject
• that subject gives you a higher OP

And Remember … There is usually more than one way to look at things in life!
CARE COURTESY COOPERATION CHALLENGE COMMITMENT
In Summary …
• Don’t panic!
• (“no doubt the universe is unfolding,
as it should”)
• Make an initial selection – leave it for
a few days, re-check how the
selection choice FEELS
• Go with your intuition
• And remember …many roads lead to

Compulsory Schooling Requirement
It is compulsory for young people to stay at school until they complete Year 10 or turn 16, whichever comes first.
Compulsory Participation Phase There will be a requirement once a young person completes Year 10 or has
turned 16 to participate: For two years beyond Year 10 or turning 16; or Until they have gained a Queensland Certificate of Education; or Until they have gained a Certificate III; or Until they turn 17.
During this period a young person must enrol in one or more eligible options, as outlined in the legislation, and participate full-time. Flexible arrangements will also apply to this phase. It is an offence for parents to fail to ensure participation in one or more of these options.
Learning Accounts and the QCE All students will be registered with the Queensland Curriculum Assessment
Authority (QCAA) A learning account will be established so students, parents and learning
providers can keep track of progress (Student Connect)
