Year Home Learning Grid – School Closure Foundation- For Week Beginning 13th April and 20th April Week Beginning 13/04/20 MATHS- MONDAY for 20-30 minutes Watch https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=0VLxWIHRD4E Stop it at different parts of the song. Can you count out that number of objects? (pieces of pasta, 1p coins, pencils, toy cars…) 2. Count out given number of objects. “I have …… things’. Can you count out some things so that you have more than me…. less than me…… fewer than me…. the same as me? MATHS- TUESDAY 20 -30 mins Count along the number line to 10 or 20 (a copy is on the pack sent home or you can write out numbers 1 to 10 or 20 along a line if you don’t have it). Then call out a number. Can they find that number? Have two teddies. Give one teddy some objects. How many do you think he has? This is called estimating. Then check how many he has by counting. Can you give the other teddy some objects so that he has ‘more than’this bear? Less than? Fewer than? The same as? MATHS- WEDNESDAY 20-30 mins Play ‘matching pairs game’ with numbers which your child does not recognise. Pick 4 numbers that your child does not recognise. Write them on separate pieces of paper so that you have two of each of the 4 numbers eg- two 9s, two 8s…) Take turns to turn two over. What are the numbers? Do they match? Write numbers 1 to 20 on pieces of paper (1 to 10 if your child cannot recognise numbers above 20). Pick out two numbers. What are they? Make the numbers using the numicon pictures (the coloured shapes with the holes in) that were in your packs. Can they compare the numbers using the words fewer, more, less? Eg- 6 is fewer than 9. MATHS- THURSDAY 20 -30 mins Find the number 5 on a number line. Count out 5 things. How many different ways can you arrange those 5 things (in a line, in the same formation as a 5 on a dice, in a cross shape…) Shape- Look at a picture of a bee’s honeycomb inside a hive. Find out what shape bees make their honey comb from. How many sides does a hexagon have? Can you make the shape using sticks, straws, strips of paper? how many will you need to make a hexagon? What other shapes can you make with the sticks? Squares, triangles, rectangles? What’s the difference between a square and a rectangle? Can you draw these shapes? MATHS- FRIDAY 20-30 mins Find the number 6 on a number line. Count out 6 things. How many different ways can you arrange those 6 things (in a line, in the same formation as a 6 on a dice, in a triangle shape…) Shape- What was the name of the shape that bees make their honeycomb with? Look at the ‘Find the Shape Picture’ that we have put on Tapestry. What shapes can you see? How do you know that’s a triangle, a square…? You could print this off and complete it or can you draw your own shape picture? Can you find different things in the room that are these shapes? Signed: Date: Signed: Date: Signed: Date: Signed: Date: Signed: Date: Week Beginning 20/04/20 MATHS- MONDAY Count along number line. Then cover up one number without them seeing, What number is it? How do you know? Draw two simple flowers. Draw 3 bees on one flower and 2 bees on the other. How many on each flower? Can you write the number under each flower? How many many are there altogether? Repeat with different numbers of bees on each flower. MATHS- TUESDAY Count out aloud to your child but make a mistake. Can they spot the mistake? As for yesterday but put a + between the two sets of bees. Recap that this means ‘add’ which mean we count how many altogether. If your child is finding this easy, put ten bees on one flower and a smaller number on the other. How many altogether? MATHS-WEDNESDAY Watch https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=0VLxWIHRD4E Tell an adding number story about bees on flowers. eg- 3 bees flew onto the pink flower. 5 bees flew onto the blue flower. How many bees altogether? Show how you can use anything to represent the bees (sweets, pieces of paper, bits of pasta…) and use it to solve the problem and count how many there are altogether. Give them a couple of adding number stories to solve. MATHS-THURSDAY Write out 5 + 4 = on a pice of paper. Read it to your child or ask them to read it to you. Show them how to count out the number of objects to match each given number and then combine the two sets and count how many there are altogether. Read the sentences again pointing to it as you read it “so 5 add 4 equals 9. We need to write 9 to show that’s how many there are altogether.” Give them some number sentences to try them self- eg- 6 + 3 = 2 + 5 = Extend to beyond 10 if they find this easy MATHS-FRIDAY Show your child again how to solve an adding number sentence eg 3 + 6 = using objects. Give them a selection of objects to choose from and write out 4 adding number sentences for them to solve. Can they remember how to solve them? Can they write some for you to solve? Show them one that Norman the bumble bear has written 4 + 5 = 2 Can this be right? Why not? Can you show me how this is not right, using your objects?

COMMUNICATION & LANGUAGE, ORACY, TIME TO TALK

1) This would be best to carry out this activity AFTER the Understanding of the World activity, because your child will then have more knowledge.

Talk with your child about bears and bees. What is the same about them? What is different about them?

Encourage them to use the sentence stems… “ They are the same because….” “ They are different because….” “ They are similar because…”

Record your child telling us about the similarities and differences.

2) This would need to be carried out after activity 2 in Expressive Arts and Design. Talk about how you made play dough. Can they give instructions to a family member to tell them how to make it? Can they use the words

First… Next… Then…. Finally…

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

1)DOUGH DISCO

Dough Disco sessions are available every day at 9.30 am and 1pm at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj0shfH3pzhrf3dOrSj_pRw/videos These sessions are so important for your child’s fine motor skills, which they require to write.

2) Joe Wicks Fitness session everyday. Mrs Hiil and Mrs Lockwood do these sessions everyday. Can you?

3) How many times can you throw and catch a ball? How many throws and catches can you do in 1 minute? Can you beat that score on your second try? Can you clap your hands in between throwing and catching the ball? Can you do all of the above with a large ball and small ball?

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

1) What do you know or what can you find out about bees?

Where do bees live? What do they eat? Does every bee sting? How do bees make honey? What shapes will you find inside a beehive?

Send us a video on Tapestry, telling us 3 things about bees.

2) Find out why bees are so important to our world.

Make a “Save the bees” poster.

Send us a video on Tapestry, telling us why bees are so important and she was your posters through posting a photo of them.

3) BEEBOT! Download the ‘Beebot’ app on App Store or google play. Give Beebot the directions to get to the flowers.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

1) Paint or draw a picture of a bee.

A link to writing- Can you label the different parts of the bee? (legs, wings, body….) Teaching point- Please encourage your child to work out the sounds in these words using their ‘Fred Fingers’, rather then telling them how to spell them. If they write ‘bodee’ for ‘body’, that’s ok at this stage. We want the children to feel that they are successful writers. If we pick them up on every spelling, they will get disheartened. The most important part is that they are listening to the sounds in words and writing the letters that make that sound.

2) Make a bear or bee from playdough. Make some play dough (let your child help to do this Recipe- 1 cup of flour Half a cup of salt Half a cup of water (add a drop of food colouring or paint to the water if you want coloured dough) Can you make a bear or a bee? What shapes will you need to make? What could you use to make the eyes, wings, legs?

Take photos of your models and post them on Tapestry.
