WED, SEPT 28 ~ PAPAL AUDIENCE We make an easy walk from our hotel to the Vatican to join others from around the world for the papal audience. The colorful Swiss Guard accompanies the pope’s entrance. After his brief address in several languages, Pope Francis con-cludes with a blessing. In the afternoon we will take Via Aurelia (Old Appian Way) to the Cat-acombs, where early Christians hid. B D

MON, SEPT 26 ~ NEW YORKWe gather in New York & depart for Rome on board our overnight flight.

TUE, SEPT 27 ~ ROMEMorning arrival in Rome to meet our tour staff and transfer to hotel. Lunch at leisure followed by afternoon touring visiting the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain & the Piazza Navona. Welcome dinner and Orientation at the hotel. Overnight Rome. D

MON, OCT 3 ~ ASSISIOur tour of Assisi begins with a ½ day walking tour. Though rich with ancient history, our main focus is the life of St Francis. The Basilica of St. Francis is important for its art treasures & as a religious center. The magnificent Basilica of Santa degli Angeli, the 7th largest Christian church, contrasts the simplicity preached by St. Francis. We also visit the primitive Porziuncola Chapel, the initial center of the Franciscan order. Overnight Assisi. B D

SUN, OCT 2 ~ ROME, ORVIETO, ASSISI After a Papal Blessing we depart for Assisi via Orvieto, a medieval walled village. After mass & a visit to the Cathedral, we travel on to Assisi for dinner & overnight. B D

THU, SEPT 29 ~ ANCIENT ROME Rome claims a thousand churches. Highlights are visits to St. Mary Major Basilica, St John’s in Lateran, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. The afternoon focuses on ancient Imperial Rome including the Colosseum & the Roman Forum. The tour orients us to the other sites of Rome to visit on our free time. We end at the 5th c. Basilica of St. Peter’s in Chains, built to house the chains that held Peter during his im-prisonment. Overnight Rome. B D

FRI, SEPT 30 ~ VATICAN TREASURES An independent state, the Vatican City has trea-sures from every era. The Basilica of St. Peter, the largest church in the world, is built over Nero’s circus where Paul died, and stands over Peter’s tomb. The Vatican Museums would take years to truly see. The highlight is Michelange-lo’s masterpiece, the frescoed ceiling of the Sis-tine Chapel. Free afternoon and Overnight Rome. B D

SAT, OCT 1 ~ FREE DAY Our free day offers many options to indepen-dently explore Rome or take an optional tour to Florence or House of St. Maria Goretti. Overnight Rome. B

WED, OCT 5 ~ ASSISI, SIENA, FRASCATIWe depart for Rome via Siena, the birthplace of St Catherine. After mass and a visit to the Cathe-dral, which contains the relics of Saint Catherine, we take a walking tour of this medieval city. Lunch at leisure. Travel to Frascati for farewell dinner at a winery. Overnight Frascati. B D
