Presidents' Message
As a newcomer to North Idaho Junior College, I am greatly impressed with what has already
been accomplished on our campus through the dedicated support of the residents of this area.
Our college possesses a highly qualified faculty, excellent facilities and recognition as a fully
accredited institution of higher education, providing our students with an exceptionally favor
able environment for the pursUit of a deeper understanding of moral, ethical and humane values
and for learning the principles of science and technology . The natural grandeur of our area
combined with the purposefulness of our students and the dedication of our faculty creates a
tru1Y outstanding potential for future growth. I am looking forward to the new programs, new
bUildings, and new instructional resources that are planned to enable North Idaho Junior Col
lege to serve the needs of students in our community with even greater effectiveness. It is my
intent and my hope that I will be able to contribute significantly to the realization of the great
potential offered by our college as it seeks to prepare students for a world of proliferating
knowledge and amazing discovery.

The Student Council acts upon many issues concerning the Student Body of North Idaho Junior College . All
students serving on the board are elected by their fellow students except the Secretacy of the Board who is
appointed. This year's Secretary was Dee Morton. There are several committees which the board appoints
each year to aid in planning activities for the students of North Idaho Junior College. The Student Activities
Committee is one. Better known as SAC, this committee paints signs, plans dances, and various other activi-
ties which take place in the Student Union Building. Those serving on the committee this year were Bob

The Newman club is a religious activity group, directed primarily to Catholics on campus . Its aim fits in with NIJC's effort to help students formulate goals and lasting values for the enrichment of their lives. As students advance in their educational development, as they meet new points of view in ou1· pluralistic society, Newman helps them to take a more mature approach to religious values they have received in younger years.
Newman club activities this year featured such events as gathering together to celebrate a special Mass in Fort Sherman Chapel, and a chili feed and movie in the Student Union. Each Tuesday and Thursday during the noon hour, the Newman club has welcomed one and all to participate in the informal -- sometimes rambling - - discussions that were held in the SUB.

Student Membership in the American Home Economics Association is available through the NIJC Home Economics Club. Members also belong to the Idaho Home Economics Association and attend the annual convention each year. One special college event sponsored each year is the Sweetheart Dance held in February . Altruistic projects have been a contribution of a loom to the home for the aged, craft projects of Sunset Terrace, and a Christmas Holiday basket of food and toys to a needy family with children. Sponsors are Ruth McFarland and Florence Stranahan.

Acknowledgement It is now time to close. This has been a fantastic year for everyone involved with tho 1969 DRIFT-
WOOD. As I look back over the year, it has been a truly enjoyable experience working and !mowing
so many people. There has been many problems that have come up while trying to complete the
DRIFTWOOD, but they have been overcome. Many things bad to be changed, and it was not the in-
tention of the staff to pass by some things for others. This was something that had to be done and
we hope that it will be for the betterment of the DRIFTWOOD.
The DRIFTWOOD bas been a challenge for me and for all the staff. We hope that each of you will
