Annual Bull Sale

Saturday, March 8th, 2014 • 1:00pm Anderson Livestock Auction • Ogden,Utah

Roche Ranches

Welcome We would like to thank everyone that has supported our bull sale over the years. This year marks

our eleventh year in the seed stock business. We have made many friends in the cattle and livestock indus-try. We take it very serious the confidence you have placed on us to improve your bottom line. Like our op-eration; you rely on the livestock to support your families, and pay your bills. It is so neat to see the loyalty, recognition, and approval of our bulls by the ranches who stock them. Some of you have bought bulls since

day one, and we sure appreciate it. We are very proud of our heritage, and the previous generations that have done so much for us. They have helped pave and provide a way of life that we love so much. Our father, Jeff Roche, had the idea to purchase a ranch that he was raised on, and the place his father had managed for 40+ years. Justin and Dusty were barely double digits in age, and it the year was 1992. We were all excited because it was bor-dered by the property that our grandparents, Doug and Doris Roche, had purchased from grandma’s dad Job Hadfield. The year we bought the ranch, calves were in the high seventies, lambs in the high forties, $3 dollar wheat, and interest rates on loans were 10% plus. Somehow, we have managed to make it so far. When we started on our own in 1992, we purchased 100 head from the Holmgren Conner Cattle Ranch,

and 250 head of old ewes we bought from our great grandpa Nick Chournos. Presently, we run a 1000 head of cow/calf pairs and 4000 head of sheep. We have not been con-victed of being the smartest, but we do know how to run and make a ranch work. We have taken the same approach to our bull program. We continue to improve the quality every year, and this is our best offering

yet. We say that every year so that’s a good thing! These cattle know how to get out and work, and will produce a profit for you in a commercial environment. They have to or you don’t have a ranch.

We believe the best way to stay profitable is to take advantage of the crossbreeding, and especially maternal heterosis, and quality research proves that. Maternal heterosis is the most valuable tool available

to improve cow performance and herd profitability. With the low heritability of maternal traits like fertility and longevity, a breeder or breed can spend a lifetime trying to make the same progress for those crucial traits that can be realized in one easy cross. Studies show an equivalent of 1 to 1.5 extra calves over the

lifetime of a female in favor of crossbred cattle because of the combination of greater longevity, and extra calf weaning weight. If we could purchase a pharmaceutical that added that much performance and profit,

there is little doubt that producers would stand in line all day to buy some. We welcome you to the sale and want you to know that we stand 100% behind these bulls. If for

any reason you’re not completely satisfied we will make it right.

Sincerely, Roche Ranches, (Jeff, Justin, and Dusty Roche)

These two year old bulls have been fed at Wayments feedyard in Warren, Utah. They have done a really good job and we appreciate them very much. They were fed at Capeners as yearlings where they were put on a feed test- so when you see their TDG, that is from that 60 day test. All bulls are based off Angus EPD’s, thus helping in ease of comparison of the bulls. These guys are probably not as big as some other sales two year olds, as they are required to go out and work and breed cows as yearlings. I feel it is important to send them to work as yearlings. It helps them to mature into good-foot-ed, hard working bulls, that can handle many cows on big ranges. Also by running them as yearlings we eliminate any problem bull, as they will naturally cull themselves while breeding cows.

TWO YEAR OLDS

If we could have a whole herd of cattle like this, we might be able to make some money! This bulls maternal grandam is probably one of the most famous cows that ever walked on the place. She was absolutely awesome and we kept every heifer out of her. Take advantage of these highly sought after maternal genetics. Bull cannot be registered.

DURABLE CATTLE, QUALITY GENETICS!

LONG YEARLINGSThese long yearlings are very impressive from top to bottom. They were born on the ranch in Utah, from August to October. The majority of these bulls are AI sired. In December of 2012, they were shipped to California with their mothers where they grazed on a ranch we lease from a good friend. They grazed all winter until we shipped them home in June. They then were weaned on grass here in Utah and ran on the dry mountain all summer. These bulls have grazed their whole life. They know how to travel and get around in the rocks. They have good feet and bone structure because of the way they have been raised. These guys will be able to handle a heavy amount of work in any type of environment and remain sound and in good shape. These bulls were put on a feed test the same as the yearling bulls.

If this bull could get 10 stars for performance and growth he would get them. This guy is an absolute stud! This guy has the look and style to sire some really fancy cattle and his 6.07 ADG is the highest that we have ever had. His mother is still going strong at 10 years of age and is a good cow. His sire, Earl, is as attractive of a bull that has ever walked our pastures. This bull will be worth the drive to come and buy.

These bulls are very similar in their makeup and design. They have the power to sire an exceptional set of feed-er calves, while still having the ability to sire exceptional replacement heifers. These bulls come highly recomended for any type of cattle. We do not recommend them for use on heifers, but they could be used on heifers under good managment and if your heifers are larger framed. Look at these bulls closely and you will find the type and quality that is as good as you can find. The dams of these bulls are good cows and you will notice that there are some full sib embryo brothers- take advantage of putting together these brothers.

Myer Ranch 734 grandson.

Maybe the best overall bull in the sale. He stems from the world famous bull of Tim Ohlde, Jet Fleck, who I saw in person and thought he was one of the best bulls that I had ever seen. He was completely three dimensional and good everywhere. His dam is as good of a cow as we have. She always stays looking good and always has an awe-some calf. We have sold three bull calves out of her that have averaged $3850. The last one going to our good friends, Brian and Mindy Walters for $4250. The Walters have bought bulls from us since we began 10 years ago.

These Simmental influenced yearlings are the best to date that we have sold, they are soft made and full of muscle. These bulls will sire calves that will be loaded for performance and still leave you with a fancy set of heifers to put back in your herd. There is a tremendous amount of demand for these Simmental influenced cattle. I’ve had many customers and friends that have topped the respective video sales around the country with calves sired by these bulls. These bulls have good calving ease and many of them can be used on heifers. The Simmental breed has done an outstanding job in improving cattle ease. The EPD’s for these bulls has also been based on Angus to help when comparing the bulls.

His sire, Game Day, has the highest Weaning Value in the angus breed at $62.00 and still maintains a +19.00 energy value. His mother by Oak Hollow, also posts + energy and top 2% Weaning value. She is very good. Don’t miss out on this bull. He can improve your cattle and bottom line in so many ways.

These Angus yearling bulls are some outstanding individuals who represent what I feel the Angus breed should be. They are moderate framed, deep-ribbed bulls with a ton of gut and capacity to store and convert feed. They also have outstanding maternal traits. The majority of the bulls being in the top 5% of the breed for Weaning Value. They also excell for carcass traits, which I feel the angus breed is superior. We really emphasize in our Angus cattle that they have a - or only a slight-ly + Yearling Height and Mature Height EPD and they need to have a + Energy EPD and be in the top 1-3% in Weaning Value. Like I’ve said before, I believe Angus is a maternal breed and we breed them to stay that way. We are not looking to raise Black Charolais like a lot of Angus breeders do.

This bulls mother wintered out on the moun-tain in Utah as a heifer calf along with the other 2011 heifers, receiving no hay and only having snow for water. I think this speaks volumes for the way that these cattle are raised and for the toughness and survivablity they posses. After wintering out, she was still able to concieve AI and raise this good bull calf by the world famous sire, In Focus. Maternal grandam is still in production at 12 years of age.
