Bruce TownshipFuture Site of New Splash ParkBy Joan King, YesMedia Area residents are excited to learn that an estimated $250,000-$300,000 splash park is intended to be built in Bruce Townships’s Park, located on East Gates Street. Thanks to the diligence of the Romeo Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization comprised of several Kiwanis Club members, the park project is making waves.
The Romeo-Area Kiwanis Club in-troduced plans to build the park in Bruce Township last summer, where the project was put be-fore & approved by The Bruce Township Board of Trustees, who voted 4-0 to support the proj-ect at its July 20, 2011 meeting. Cindy Hook, a Kiwanis Club mem-ber, said the club hopes to install the park behind the current children's playground, adjacent to the fire hall.
The splash park will have spray features installed in a 50-foot by 50-foot cement pad as well as rings that kids can run under which will resemble peaches. Hook said the rings will be big enough to al-low kids in wheelchairs to pass under them. Supervisor Jim Tig-nanelli said the township park is 10 acres, and the proposed area for the splash park was a picnicking area that is now basically unusable.“It happens to have more square footage than we need to put this in," he said. "There is wa-ter there, there is electric there and it doesn't upset any of the park that we currently have."
The goal is to have the splash park completed and donated in
2015 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Kiwanis. Once completed, Hook said it will be donated to the Ro-meo-Washington Bruce Parks and Recreation Department.
