Recommendations:If you like fine wines North Wales Wines &Spirits is definitely the place to go. Webought a bottle of their Desiderius PongraczSparkling Wine, for a treat, it was absolutelyto die for. In our opinion every bit as good as
Don Perignon and decidedly cheaper, theirCava is also delicious and very reasonablypriced. Also had a couple of great buys fromConwy Outdoor Shop, again at brilliant pric-es. With one thing and another we havebeen spoiling ourselves this month.

"When our feet hurt, we hurt all over".Socrates
Feet are an extraordinary part of thehuman body. Made up of twenty sixbones in each, multitudes of
ligaments, muscles and nerves they are afeat of natural engineering and work veryhard. Its said that the average personwalks about 10,000 steps a day or theequivalent of five times around the earth ina lifetime. Since feet are in constant useand bearing our entire weight on a dailybasis, they deserve to be treated with care, yet are often neglected. This neglect canlead to lots of problems, some of thempainful. Its estimated that approximately70% of the population will suffer foot painat some point during their lives.
Chiropodists, also known as podiatrists, are highly trained foot specialists, and assuch they are the best people to visit for
prevention, diagnosis and treatment ofmany foot disorders. From verrucas andingrown toenails to bunions and generalpain, chiropodists treat a wide variety ofconditions.
Foot troubles can usually be traced tothree basic causes - inherited, illness andill-fitting shoes. Foot structure leading tobunions, ingrown nails and heel pain canbe inherited. Signs of illnesses such asdiabetes, arthritis and circulatory diseasesoften show first in the feet. But the most
common culprit is badly-fitting shoes,
specifically high heels, which is why morewomen than mendevelop foot problems.
Poorly-
fitted footwearcan produce bunionsand corns which arepainful and unsightly. All pain is debilitatingand foot pain more soas every single stepyou take will beagonising. There arenumerous origins forfoot pain and achiropodist will be ableto diagnose the causeand how to correct it. Asimple remedy for someproblems is the use of
orthotics. These are specially-madesupportive insoles for shoes which help re-align your foot, therefore relieving thecause of the pain. These insoles areparticularly effective in relieving foot fatigueand aches.
Feet contain around 250,000 sweatglands, excreting as much as half a pint ofmoisture every day. Some peoples feetproduce more. Even excessively sweatyfeet can be remedied by a visit to achiropodist. This is something not to besniffed at.
Most chiropody treatment referralscome from your GP but if free NHStreatment isnt available you can still find achiropodist privately. Make sure thepractitioner is fully qualified and registeredwith the Health Professionals Council.
The key to healthy feet is prevention orearly detection. If you suffer from foot
problems, get them treated by achiropodist before permanent damageoccurs. Without treatment, foot pain cantravel causing problems in the knees, lower back, and other joints and muscles.Good foot health is vital to enjoying acomfortable and pain free life. Be good toyour feet and they'll be good to you.

T
ulips are the national flower of Iran and
Turkey. First cultivated by the Turks in1000AD, tulips were introduced to Europe inthe middle of the 16th century. In Holland they
became the subject of a phenomenon calledTulipomania. Due to their rarity, only a few very richpeople could afford them, which meant the plantsbecame status symbols.
When the Tulipomania bubble burst, the Dutch creat-ed the successful bulb-growing business they havenow. There are now over 3,000 varieties of cultivatedtulips in almost every colour and size imaginable.
The natural habitat of tulips is in mountainous regions
so they need a period of cold while they are dormant.Plant bulbs in November or December, before the firstfrost. Tulips bloom in almost any well drained soil, butmix in plenty of organic matter and fertiliser to encour-age vivacious growth. After flowering, deadhead andleave the plant to die down naturally, so energy is sentto the bulb to store for use next spring.
Some people are allergic to tulip bulbs, so wear
Tulips
gloves while handling them. However, during World War II, people in Holland
were forced to eat tulips. Apparentlythis was an unpleasant experiencewith the taste described as wetsawdust. It was also a risky undertak-ing as some parts of the bulb arepoisonous.
A striking spring bulb, with an interestinghistory, tulips are in flower this month
GARDENING
How to be green-ngered the easy way
If the thought of growing your own appeals but you have noidea where to start, here are a few tips to get you off theground (literally!)
1) Start smallDont make grand plans for your whole garden, take it a bit at a time. Invest in a few window boxes or trays andstart with some mixed salad leaves or herbsits a great way tosee fast results and gain confidence.
2) Location, location, locationIf youre opting for a veg patch, think about its positioning. For the best results, youll need sunlightand protection from the wind. Make sure its accessible too youdont want to be treading all over your plants while youre weeding!
3) Which soil type? - Buy a soil testing kit. Its a worthy investmentand easy to do. Once you know what youre working with, addsome rotted-down manure and compost to increase the soilsquality. Rake out any stones and pull up all weeds.
4) Build a raised bed The garden-in-a-frame idea makes a vege-table patch much easier to maintain. Not only do they make plant-ing in straight lines easier, they also warm up quicker than theground meaning a bumper harvest for you!
5) Easy to grow crops Tomatoes, salad leaves, beans, strawber-riestheyre all low maintenance and give quick results. Sow yourseeds in neat drillsitll help you make the most of the roomavailable.
6) Label plants - Keep a record of what youve planted, where andwhen. Things like tomatoes may need feeding and beans willrequire poles and string to climb. Keep an eye on weeds and waterregularly if it doesnt rain.
7) Keep seeds from your plants for next year - Make notes aboutwhat youd like to try next season and write down any tips youvepicked up. Why not think about buying a greenhouse, or perhapspop a fruit tree in the garden for a delicious stock of fruit? Dontstop at peas and carrots have a go at some more exotic cropssuch as blueberries, figs and peppers!

Can You Help - Hidden Hearing Train a Hearing Dog
HELP US TO TRAIN A
HEARING DOG
H idden Hearing is proud to announce anational campaign to raise funds to helptrain another new hearing dog with thededicated charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. A fullytrained dog plays a vital role in alerting its owner to spe-cial sounds such as alarms and bells, whether at home, atwork or in public buildings.
Throughout April and May, Hidden Hearing will be donat-ing 5 on behalf of each customer who takes a free hear-ing assessment at one of its 77 hearing centres nation-wide,. All the donations will be made by Hidden Hearing,
one of the UKs leading specialists in hearing health care, without cost to customers.
The charity relies totally on the generosity of people, companies and organisations to fund its work. There areapproximately 650,000 severely or profoundly deaf peoplein the UK who could benefit from a hearing dog. Since thecharity was founded in 1982 it has trained around 1,500hearing dogs and placed them with deaf recipients aroundthe country.
7,500 helps us to train just one dog, explained AnnaBanyard of the charity. Training takes around 18 monthsfrom puppy to fully trained hearing dog, and its an inten-
sive programme that demands a lot of specialist expertise. Were really thrilled that Hidden Hearing has become oneof our regular partners to help fund the training pro-gramme. Without support like this, our dogs just wouldnt
be able to make the difference that they do for people.
Were delighted to be supporting Hearing Dogs for DeafPeople once again this year, said Graham Lane, Manag-ing Director of Hidden Hearing. We have become one oftheir regular fund raising partners and have seen at firsthand the great difference that a well-trained hearing dogcan make for its owner. All too often we take for grantedthose everyday sounds that let us know we need to takeaction from something as simple as the door bell tosomething as life-saving as a smoke alarm. These dogsmake a massive difference to give their owners greaterindependence, confidence and security.
Hidden Hearing is a UK leader in hearing healthcare, andhas been in business for 40 years with 77 state-of-the-arthearing centres throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Recipe of the Month: by Peter Osborne - The Big Chef
Queen of PuddingsThis is one of the classic dishes, its so easy to do and willamaze your friends, both looks and taste.Serves 6Takes 50 minutes
500 ml milk55 g butter115 g cake crumbsGrated rind of 1 orangeGrated rind of 1 lemon55 g sugar
4 egg yolks, beaten2 egg whites, beaten until stiff55 g strawberry jam115 g strawberries, slicedIcing sugar for dusting
MERINGUE:2 egg whites60 g sugar
Preheat oven to 325F (165C).
Put milk and butter into a flameproof casserole dish and
heat gently until butter melts. Stir in cake crumbs and
lemon and orange rinds. Whisk in sugar and egg yolks. Fold in egg whites. Put
dish in a deep roasting pan and pour in enough boilingwater to come halfway up side of dish. Bake 45 to 50minutes or until set.
Mix together jelly and strawberries and spread over top
of pudding. Remove pudding from water.
Next to make the meringue, use a clean, dry whisk to
beat the egg whites to the stiff-peak stage, then whisk inthe caster sugar and then divide this meringue mixturebetween each pudding, piling it up into high peaks.
Finally, sprinkle a teaspoon of caster sugar over the tops
of the puddings and bake for a further 10-15 minutes on
the centre shelf again until the tops are golden brown.
Tip of the month
I hate garlic presses. They are great in what they do butthen you have to wash them!! A new toothbrush is ideal forcleaning it out properly, but break the handle in two so thatnobody takes it to the bathroom by mistake!!!!
Happy Cooking!!!Peter

Local and Community History Monthlasts throughout May with the aim ofincreasing awareness of local history,
promoting history in general to the localcommunity and encouraging all membersof the community to participate.
Activities take place across the UK andinclude trips, library exhibitions and locallectures. Its a great way for groups tohighlight local history and for local peopleto get involved.
History is all around you. Its fascinatingto discover the past that is right on yourdoorstep. Some of it may not beimmediately obvious as so many changeshave taken place over the years, but with alittle research you can discover a wholedifferent aspect to your hometown.
Some towns capitalise on their history, especially if well known events happenedthere, such as Hastings, Avebury or York.Others have equally interesting pasts, butare not necessarily as famous, for
instance, Evesham-
the site of a battle in1265.
Perhaps you live in a place with anunusual name. Place names are often anindication of the original settlement. Thereare several towns with the nameWhitchurch in Britain and this simplymeans White Church. Other names aremore obscure and captivating, for exampleMudford Sock in Somerset and Wig Wig inShropshire.
On a more local or domestic level, you
may live in a house with a history or noticeintriguing buildings in your area. Perhapsthere is a nearby mansion or estate that
piques your interest about the family whobuilt and lived there.
Go for a walk and see what you canfind. Open your eyes and look past thenew shops and buildings to what may havebeen there before. Often the only historicalbuilding left is a church, but if you lookharder, you may discover all sorts ofinteresting architecture which will lead youto research further.
In order to find out more about the
history of your area the best place to startis by visiting your local library. Mostlibraries have a local studies section andinclude more than books on the subject.Libraries, especially the large or centralones, have other documentary materialtoo, in the form of old newspapers andmaps. You should also be able to find out ifyour district has a local history society, which is a great way to discover moreinformation and share your curiosity withlike-minded people. Also consider visiting
your local museum for interesting artefactsand photographs showing how your townor village has changed over time.
Use this month to further yourknowledge and interest in your locale. There are plenty of opportunities to pursuea new hobby and discover a new world onyour doorstep.

With so many of us facing financial insecurity and fearsover our job prospects, its hardly surprising that greaternumbers than ever are suffering from stress. Eventeenagers find themselves stressed these days with the
pressure to do well in exams. We cannot do much to change theeconomic climate or the need to succeed but there are steps we cantake to ease the emotional fallout.First of all, what does stress look like? If you find any of the followingare ongoing problems in your or your teenagers life, then you orthey might be suffering from stress:
Irritability and seeming downNail biting or hair tugging/chewingOversensitivity to criticismSleep patterns disruptedUpset stomach or change in eating patterns
Increase in alcohol use or smokingDifficulty in concentrating
Recognising the symptoms and accepting that you are in a stressedstate is half the battle. The next step is learning to cope with thecondition. Its quite possible that you cannot do anything about theunderlying causes, especially if it is finance and/or work related, butyou can learn to ease the symptoms.Make simple changes to your life. Dont try to do everything on thislist all in one go, youll only add to your stress levels. Pick one thingyou feel you can incorporate easily and do that. Youll feel thebenefits almost immediately.Accept help from othersyou dont have to do everything yourself. Most of us try to do too much, feeling we have to constantly proveour worth.
Stop trying to multitask and concentrate on each job in isolation until
completed. By juggling too many tasks at once we can easily feelthat we arent accomplishing anything. Pick the most important itemthat has to be finished and deal with that first.Making lists and ticking items off as you do them can add to a senseof achievement. Its all too easy to get to the end of a day and onlysee the things that still have to be done, rather than congratulatingyourself on what you have achieved.Take regular breaks at work. Even if all you do is walk around theoffice, or go downstairs and come back up again, moving away fromyour desk gives your mind chance to relax.Find someone safe to talk to. We all need to put our fears into wordsoccasionally. For teenagers it can really help by sharing their feel-ings on Facebook or other social sites.Let your anger out by hitting a cushion or by going somewhere aloneand screaming.
Get lots of fresh air this will aid relaxation.Have ten minute you sessions. Set aside definite times when onlyyou matter. This could be in the bath, or going for a walk alone, oranywhere where you can switch off the outside world and let yourmind wander freely.Walk away from critical people. Dont allow others to destroy yourself-confidence. When under stress, it is all too easy to believenegative comments, even when they clearly bear little relation toreality. If lifes really getting you down and youve started to feel like you justcant cope, dont be afraid to see your doctor. They expect to dealwith wellbeing issues as well as physicalproblems.

Motoring -Porsche Cayman S by James Baggott, editor of Car DealerMagazine
Porsche Cayman S
Ruthless, efficient andmenacing, theres nothing quite likean ice white PorscheCayman to focus the
mind. This test takesplace on a track nearYork and the mid-sized Por-sche is seriouslyentertaining.
Theres no drama, no rubber burning, back-end wagging show-boating with this tool, thats forsure. One would imagine the word fun doesnt evenhave a German translation. The Cayman a car whichsits just below the 911 and above the Boxster in thefirms range is about point-to-point; getting you fromA-to-B as fast as possible.
After a few laps its abundantly clear this is a verycompetent track machine. It puts several car lengths
on the Nissan 370Z we were testing it against andthats before wed even covered half a lap. And boydoes it grip, scything through bends with scalpel-edgedprecision. If you miss an apex theres no one to blamehere but the man behind the wheel.
The Cayman is packed with performance goodiestoo ones that make fast a science, not an art form.First up is launch control: click the right buttons, holdyour foot on the brake, nail the throttle and wait for it tolevel at 5,000rpm, then simply take your foot off thepedal. Its unbelievably effective, matching power withgrip to thrust you forwards with the efficiency of asuper computer.
Of course this only works alongside the marquesseven-speed PDK gearbox. Dont ask what PDK
stands for, its unpronounceable by humans, just besatisfied that all you need to know is it works, muchlike everything else in the Porsche, fantastically well. Its a dual clutch set-up, not dissimilar to VWs DSGunit, which prepares the next cog you want to use inanticipation of the next shift.
Yes, that sounds hugely complicated, and I haveno doubt it probably is, but its safe to say it makesgear changes very swift matters indeed. Thats not tosay it isnt without its faults. Most noticeable are thebutton toggles for up and down on the steering wheelwhich work the opposite way to that which youdexpect. Theyre also far more awkward to get the hangof compared to paddles favoured by other manufactur-
ers.
In most cases its far easier to use the gear leverthat can be pushed up and down for shifts instead ofthe buttons. But despite this small handicap, theCayman still manages to edge it out on track. TheCayman S produces 320bhp from its 3.4 -litre unit, but
its the way it manages to translate those numbers intoforward inertia so effective- ly that seriouslyimpresses.
Problem is, you always get the feelingyoure only half of the picture. TheCay- mans so honed and
sorted it takes awaya large part of theenjoyment. After adays fun and frolicson track Im left
feeling a little cold and fora car from a maker like Porsche
thats not a good situation to be in,especially if youve just shelled out 44,000
for one.
Dont get me wrong, the Cayman S is adevastating machinethat covers groundextremely quickly, inpretty much anyoneshands. It soundssuperb, steers likefew cars youll everexperience and ispacked with technolo-gy. Itll also catapultyou around a track,or damp B-road,
faster than youd everthink possible.
But, the thing is, youwont realise it andin my eyes whats thepoint of going really
quickly if you dont feel like youre going really quickly? Its not as though youre trying to qualify for a grandprix is it, where lap times are all. This is about life;enjoying every one of those pounds you spent on yourcar, every time you get behind the wheel. And in theGerman offering, I just dont know whether I would.
