WHAT IS THE DAY CAMP EXPIERENCE?

Give your children a mountain camp experience to remember: horseback riding in the mountains, hiking trails and exploring forests, practicing archery, splashing in the pool, singing to their hearts content and creating crafts.

Day camp is an opportunity for you as a parent to drop off your child for the day with trained professionals while you explore RMNP, check out other YMCA activities, or the quaint town of Estes Park.

The Y is committed to quality family programming and strengthening our community. We provide a Healthy Living experience for kids by educating on healthy food choices and the right balance of physical activity. In Y camp programs, children grow in self-esteem, self-reliance, confidence and discover their potential.

Allow for your child to have a unique summer camp experience. All under the care of specially trained staff who bring attention to the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

Service ProjectsThis summer each group will have a built in time within their weekly schedule where they will spend time doing a service project. Some of our main focuses this summer will be: trail maintenance, clearing of invasive species, and clean up of Wind River.

GardeningJoin in the fun of our Day Camp garden this summer! Campers will have the opportunity throughout the week to learn about high altitude gardening and being stewards of the land.

A New Specialty CampA Peek Into the Past is a new Specialty week. Campers will have the chance to become official “junior museum directors” when they become detectives and explore history mysteries at the YMCA of the Rockies. Campers will uncover clues about the YMCA’s past through archaeology, explore Rocky Mountain National Park , and have a chance to be pioneers, cook over an open fire, try their hand at camp life in the early 1900s.

Check out What’s New!There are a number of new components within Day Camp that we would like to highlight for this summer! One of these being the construction of two new Gaga Pits within the day Camp area. This fast paced, dodgeball-like game has been a great hit amongst all ages and we are excited to have two that will now be in our area.

OUR MISSIONYMCA of the Rockies puts Christian principles into practice through programs, staff and facilities in an environment that builds healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

We will accomplish this by serving conferences of a religious, educational, or recreational nature; providing unifying experiences for families; offering traditional summer camping experiences for boys and girls; and serving our staff with leadership opportunities and productive work experiences.

Children today need the opportunity to be themselves in a safe environment to learn and grow. In a day and age when life is busy and our schedules keep us moving, kids need the opportunity to be able to “unplug” from the busy world they live in and experience the wonder of a mountain camp experience.

Day Camp at YMCA of the Rockies is that place where children can explore the outdoors, learn about themselves, and make life-long friendships. We offer a program and place that fosters a safe environment, with well trained staff for children to play, learn, serve, and grow.

Come join us this summer!

Sincerely,

Courtney Danis, Youth Programs [email protected]

Inclusion Program At Day Camp, we enthusiastically pursue opportunities to welcome campers with special needs into the experience through our Inclusion Program. In recognition that the term special needs has many categories (physical, cognitive, emotional), each camper registration will be uniquely considered. Our intent is that campers with special needs be involved in the regular camp programming, meaning all programs are available for your consideration. More than that, it has been our experience that when a camper with special needs is in the group, that child often becomes instrumental in the bonding that happens among the group and sets the tone for a significant camp week for everyone in the group. When registering your child, you will have the opportunity to indicate if your child has special needs. Once you make this indication, you will be directed to a questionnaire that asks detailed questions which allow us to assess our ability to accommodate those needs. In some cases, our Coordinator for Campers with Special Needs may call or email to request further information.

Many of the summer staff will have had prior experience working with children with a variety of special needs. This has become a quality we look for when hiring summer staff. These staff are eager for opportunities to have campers with special needs in their group. Our Coordinator for Campers with Special Needs will work with the counselor, equipping them with any skills or strategies for working with their campers, and will serve as a resource for the counselor throughout the week.

EARLY BIRDS & SUNDOWNERS PROGRAMFor your convenience and peace of mind, Early Birds and Sundowners Program provides your camper with supervised activities, led by well-trained staff, prior to and following the end of the program day. Early Birds and Sundowners is available each camp day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhen do I register my child for camp? Register at least one day prior to your child attending camp. For the safety and well-being of the children and our program we do not accept same-day registrations. Online registration opens the beginning of March.

Do we have to be members of the YMCA? No, everyone is welcome to register for Day Camp. For all non-members registration for Day Camp opens May 1,2016.

When do I pay for camp? Camp fees are due in full at least 24 hours before your child’s first day of camp. If you have completed and submitted ALL waivers and immunization records and are not making any changes to your registrations, you will be able to pay on-line. If you still have papers to sign or are making changes to registration, you must come to Registrar’s office in the Legett Family Youth Building to complete the process.

What if I want to make changes to my registration? If you need to make changes before your arrival date, please email [email protected] or call the Registrar Office, 970-586-3341 ext. 1280.

Does my child have to attend every day? Choose whichever days fit your child’s interest and your family’s schedule. Please make sure to come on the days that you are enrolled in programming.

Can my children be in the same group even though they are different ages? Campers are grouped by the grade they are entering in the Fall of 2015, so that social levels will remain consistent in each group. Please help us uphold this policy by recognizing camp is a learning and growing opportunity for your child.

My 4 year old is entering Kindergarten in the fall, can they be in the Explorer group? The State of Colorado Child Care Regulations require us to place any 4-year-old in the Bennett Children’s Program even though they may be entering Kindergarten in the fall. Please help us stay within our regulations and register your child appropriately.

What medical records are required? Immunization records and a health information section will be required for every child. You will be asked to provide this information during the on line registration process.

Are meals provided? Lunch is included in the fees for the Outpost and Backpacking Camps only. For all other camp programs, we recommend that campers bring a healthy non-perishable sack lunch. A GoPicnic® box lunch may be purchased for $5 through the Day Camp. We do provide morning and afternoon snacks. Please note that Day Camp is NOT a peanut free environment.
