INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH STRUCTURE
An article (makale) A hinge (menteşe) Lung (akciğer) Jennifer New York
Pronoun (Zamir / Adıl)
Varlıkların isimlerinin yerine kullanılan kelimelere zamir (adıl) denir. He lives in Bursa. (O, Bursa’da yaşıyor.) Tom knows us.
To believe (inanmak) To work (çalışmak) To support (desteklemek)
Adverb (Zarf / Belirteç)
Fiilleri niteleyen kelimelere zarf (belirteç) denir. He drives carefully.

Eğer ismi nitelerse sıfattır.(a careful driver → dikkatli şoför.) Eğer fi ili nitelerse zarftır.(He drives carefully. → O, dikkatli araç kullanır.)Zarfl ar, İngilizcede genellikle sıfatın sonuna “-ly” eklenerek oluşturulur. O nedenle ikinci cümlede “careful” değil “carefully” kullanılmıştır. Bu konu, “Adjective & Adverb” (Sıfat & Zarf ) konu başlığı altında etrafl ıca incelenecektir.
Preposition (Edat / İlgeç)
Tek başlarına anlamları olmayan, başka kelimelerle öbekleşerek anlam kazanan kelimelerdir.
in the class (sınfın içinde / sınıfta) on the plate (tabağında) from Zonguldak (Zonguldak’tan) to İzmir (İzmir’e)
The boss hired him. (Patron onu işe aldı.) The volcano erupted. (Yanardağ patladı.)
Object (Nesne)
Cümlede öznenin yaptığı iş ve eylemden doğrudan etkilenen ögedir. Başka bir anlatımla fi ile sorulan “neyi? / kimi?” sorularının cevabıdır.
We know Jerry. (Biz, Jerry’yi tanıyoruz.) He bought a brand new car. (O, sıfır kilometre bir araba aldı.)

ENGLISH-TURKISH SENTENCE STRUCTURE COMPARISON(İngilizce - Türkçe Cümle Yapısı Kıyaslaması)
1. Biz her hafta bir restorantta balık yeriz.Özne zaman yer nesne fi il & yüklem
We eat fi sh in a restaurant every week.Özne fi il nesne yer zaman
2. Onlar her ay sinemada fi lm izlerler.Özne zaman yer nesne fi il
They watch a movie at the cinema every month. Özne fi il nesne yer zaman
3. Robert her yıl New York’ta akrabalarını ziyaret eder.Özne zaman yer nesne fi il
Robert visits his relatives in New York every year.Özne fi il nesne yer zaman

TIP(İpucu) Birinci sütundaki cümleler oluş bildiren fi iller içerdikleri için “to be” fi ilinin “present” formu
olan “am / is / are” kullanılmıştır.
İkinci sütundaki cümleler eylem bildiren fi iller içerdiği için geniş zaman kullanımı gereği fi il yalın olarak yazılmış, olumsuz ve soru formu oluşturulurken “do / does” yardımcı fi illeri kullanılmıştır.
O nedenle; I am work. He is not live here. Are you study Maths? Why is he get up early? gibi cümleler dil bilgisi açısından yanlıştır.
Özetle geniş zamanda oluş ifade eden cümlelerde “to be” fi ilinin “present” formu “am / is / are” kullanılır. Eylem belirten cümlelerde kullanılmaz.
TIP(İpucu)
Geçmiş zamanda eylem bildiren fi illerde “-dı / -di” anlamını vermek için “was / were” kullanılmaz. “Was / were” oluş bildiren fi illerde kullanılır.
“I am studying” (Ders çalışıyorum) cümlesinde eylem bildiren bir fi il (ders çalışmak) olmasına karşın “to be” fi ili kullanılmıştır. Çünkü “present continuous” (şimdiki zaman) kulllanılmıştır ve “continuous” zaman oluşumunda kural “be + Ving” kullanımıdır. Aynı durum “past continuous” için de geçerlidir.
TRICKS (Çeldiriciler)
“I was studying.” (Ders çalışıyordum.) cümlesinde eylem fi il (ders çalışmak) olmasına karşın “past continuous” olduğundan “to be” fi ilinin “past” formu “was” kullanılmıştır.

It is getting darker and darker. The students are becoming more and more motivated. The economic landscape is unfortunately turning worse and worse.
“Always, usually, often, frequently” gibi sıklık zarfl arı rahatsız edici durumları belirtirken kullanıldığında “Present Continuous Tense” kullanımı söz konusudur.
TRICKS (Çeldiriciler)
Alice is always listening to music while I am studying.(Ben ders çalışırken Alice sürekli müzik dinliyor.)
You are often complaining. Stop that and do something to change the situation.(Sık sık şikayet ediyorsun.
“Now, right now, at present, at the moment, for the time being, currently” gibi şimdiki zaman zarfl arı ya da ifadeleri ile “Simple Present Tense” kullanımı mümkündür.
TRICKS (Çeldiriciler)
I have a job now. He is unemployed for the time being.
I am having dinner now. I have a duty now.
Her iki cümlede de şimdiki zaman işaretçisi olan “now” kullanılmasına karşın birinci cümlede “Present progressive” ikinci cümlede ise “Simple Present Tense” kullanılmıştır. Birinci cümlede “have” “yemek yemek“ anlamını taşımaktadır ve o anda yapılan yeme eylemini anlatır.

Bazı fi iller Türkçe karşılığı “-yor & -makta” anlamında olsa da “Seni seviyorum” cümlesindeki gibi İngilizce karşılığı “I am loving you” şeklinde değildir. Bunun yerine “I love you” ifadesi kullanılır.

ZAMANLAR
1. He absolutely ---- party members last month when he declared that he ---- to regain his party chairmanship. (O, geçen ay partisinin başkanlığını yeniden kazanmayı ---- duyurduğunda parti üyelerini kesinlikle ---- etti.)
A) has shocked / had not sought (şok etti / aramadı)B) would have shocked / will not seek (şok etmiş olacaktı / aramayacak)C) had shocked / would not have sought (şok etmişti / aramamış olacaktı)D) was to shock / is not seeking (şok edecekti / aramıyor)E) shocked / would not seek (şok etti / beklemediğini / istemediğini)
Çözüm• Öncelikle zaman zarfı (when / after / as soon as / after / before .... vb) içeren cümlelerde zaman uyumu aranır.
Zaman uyumu ana cümle ile yan cümlenin zamanlarının “Present - Present / Past - Past” uyumu göstermesidir. Soru kökündeki “when he declared” (Simple Past) ifadesinden ilk boşlukta “Past Tense” kullanılması gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılabilir.
• A seçeneğinin Türkçesi her ne kadar uygun düşse de “When” ile bağlı cümlelerde zaman uyumu aranacağı için A seçeneği elenir. “Has shocked - Present Perfect Tense’tir.
“When he declared” ifadesinden sonra “past” bir ifade gelmelidir. Oysa ikinci bölümde “will not seek” (Future Tense) ifadesi kullanılmıştır.
• D seçeneğinde, yan cümledeki “when he declared” ifadesinden sonra “Present Continuous” kullanılmıştır.
2. Plenty of regions of rural America ---- to mirror the values and traditions of the European immigrants who ---- in the country during the nineteenth century.
(Amerika’nın kırsal bölgelerinin çoğu, on dokuzuncu yüzyılda ülkeye ---- Avrupalı göçmenlerin değer ve geleneklerini yansıtmaya ----)
A) continued / have arrived (devam etti / gelen (present))B) have continued / would have arrived (devam etti / gelmiş olacak olan)C) continue / arrived (devam eder / gelen (past))D) would have continued / were arriving (devam etmiş olacaktı / geliyor olan)E) will continue / would arrive (devam edecek / gelecek olan)

bağlayan “ever since” ifadesi de ana cümlede “Present Perfect” kullanımını gerekli kılmaktadır. Dolayısıyla E seçeneği doğrudur.
4. Among all of the arts it ---- classical music that Germany ---- the greatest contribution to. (Bütün sanatların içerisinde Almanya’nın en büyük katkıyı ---- klasik müzik ----.)
A) had been / put into practice (olmuştu / yaptı)B) is / has put into practice (dır / yaptı)C) has been / had put into practice (oldu / yapmıştı)D) was / will have put into practice (dı / yapmış olacak)E) might be / would have put into practice (olabilir / yapmış olacaktı)
Çözüm “Bütün sanatların içerisinde Almanya’nın en büyük katkıyı yaptığı klasik müziktir.” diyebilmek için ana cümledeki
“to be” fi ilinin “Simple Present” çekimi gereklidir; çünkü bu durum her zaman için geçerlidir.
5. The English government ---- details of the following stage of its genetically modifi ed cropfi eld trials, thereby ---- off a now familiar cycle of debate and demonstration.
(İngiliz hükümeti, genetiği değiştirilmiş tarla ürünü denemelerinin sonraki aşamasının detaylarını ---- ve böylece bildik tartışma ve gösteri döngüsünü ----.)A) has released / setting (açıkladı / başlattı) B) will release / to set (açıklayacak / başlatmayı amaçladı)C) would have released / having set (açıklamış olacaktı / başlatmış oldu)D) is releasing / to have set (açıklıyor / başlatmış olmayı amaçladı)E) released / to be set (açıkladı / başlatılmayı amaçladı)
Çözüm İkinci boşlukta bir kısaltma yapılmıştır. Cümle kısaltılmamış haliyle “and thereby set” şeklindedir. Virgül kullanılıp
“and” atılmıştır. Bu durumda fi ile “-ing ” eklenir. Bu özellik, “thus” ve “thereby” bağlaçlarıyla kullanılır. Birinci boşlukta eylemin bir zaman işaretçisi yoktur. Bu sebeple “Present Perfect” kullanımı doğrudur. E seçeneği gibi “Simple Past” (released) kullanabilmemiz için “two days ago / last week” gibi eylemin geçmişte olduğunu gösteren zaman zarfına ihtiyaç vardır. Doğru cevap A seçeneğidir.

“His” ve “their” iyelik sıfatıdır ve peşi sıra nitelediği isim gelmelidir.
