Year 5 & 6 Ballarat/Bendigo Excursion The Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed their three day excursion to Bendigo, Ballarat and Echuca last week. Whilst the weather was not kind to us, we all enjoyed learning about the Gold Rush times.

Krystal: I enjoyed going panning for gold even though it was freezing it was very exciting seeing the gold flakes left in the pan.

Sarah: I liked when we went to the underground mines at Sovereign Hill. I really liked the gold mine that had a hologram of Cornish miners finding the Welcome Nugget. It weighed 69kg.

Abi: I had fun at Bendigo Pottery creating a vase and making some shapes out of the clay that we got to take home and keep.

Nicholas: I really liked the whole of the excursion from start to finish. The best part was going inside the mines and going deep underground in the carriages. It was cold at first but got warmer as we went deeper. It was really dark until we got into the mine.

Caprice: I liked going to see all the old style buildings and shops at Sovereign Hill. My favourite was going to the Newspaper shop where we could buy posters with our name printed on them. I got the poster that announced that I found gold.

Michaela: My favourite part was panning for gold and I found eight flakes of gold. It was drizzling when we were panning and we were really, really cold. I went to warm up near the fire at the

abattoir for a little while then went straight back to try and find more gold.

Jaiden: I loved all of the things that we did on the excursion. I liked gold panning and helping Michaela find gold; how they made the wanted poster at the Newspaper Printery; the blacksmiths where I purchased a horseshoe that had my name branded on one side and on the other side it had Sovereign Hill 2016. I faced my fear of darkness when we went into the underground mines and I really liked going in them. There was one downside to the excursion and that was being sick on the first day.

P & C Canteen News The Canteen will now operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.

Lunch Orders 1. Please write your child’s order on a paper

lunch bag. 2. Include money in the bag (correct change

would be appreciated). 3. Place lunch order in the box in the canteen. 4. If change is required it will be placed in the

lunch bag by a P&C canteen helper.

The P&C would like to advise all families that there will be no canteen accounts. P&C cannot afford to carry these unpaid amounts. All lunch orders must be paid for on the day of ordering. They apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Reheating Food Due to health regulations P&C also advise that left overs cannot be reheated at school. Students may still use the refrigerator in the canteen to keep their food cool during the warmer weather.

Canteen Helpers Needed The staff and students would like to thank Tamara Ingold and Daniel Victor for assisting with the canteen and getting the students’ lunches ready each week during Term 3.

The P&C would love some extra helpers to volunteer a small amount of time to get lunch orders ready. Please contact Tamara Ingold if you are able to help out.

P & C Meeting Our next P & C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 25th October, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the YPS

staffroom. Mr David Lamb will be attending to follow up on Opportunity Class discussions. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Chicken Burger Day! We will be having a Chicken Burger Day on Friday 4th November. A pre-order form will be sent home in the near future. Keep your eye out for it! Scripture Our scripture lessons have recommenced this term. We welcome back Mr and Mrs Suine who are taking the Catholic children for their religious lessons. Unfortunately, our Christian scripture teachers were unable to assist last week but we should be with us this week. Yoogali Young Starters Start spreading the news. Our Young Starters transition to Kindergarten Program will commence next year from Term 1 to term 4. It is a free, year-long transition program which follows the Australian Early Years Learning Framework. The framework’s vision is for all children to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life.

It is designed to help familiarise both parents/carers and children with our school environment so that they are both confident and happy at our school. The opportunity also enables potential new students and parents to develop positive relationships with members of the school community.

Yoogali Public School’s ‘Young Starters’ program is aimed at children from 3 to 5 years of age. Each session will run from 9am-3pm every Wednesday of the normal school term. Children will be in the care of an experienced teacher.

Please spread the word and get the message out there.

Light the Night

Walk with us and help more Aussies beat blood cancer. It’s a good feeling to walk in solidarity but helping more people live longer and better doesn’t come free. That's why we need everyone to raise $100 before they walk to help more Australians survive blood cancer and live a better quality of life.

Join us at Collina Oval, Griffith on Friday November 4 at 6:00 pm and shine a beautiful lantern and walk with us for a future free of blood cancer.

As night falls, family, friends and supporters will walk around the oval carrying a special lantern – Gold, to remember a loved one, White, for your own blood cancer journey and Blue, to support others and help beat blood cancer. An array of local artists and performers, bands, singers and dancers will be in attendance to support the event. Available for purchase on the evening is a BBQ, a cake stall featuring delicious home-made cakes and various food stalls with proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation. Please consider supporting this worthwhile community fundraising event.

Hats

A reminder that our School HATS must be worn for outside play, if you do not have your hat, you must remain under a COLA for play.
