YOU ARE A DOER. AN INNOVATOR. A PROBLEM SOLVER. You believe

that businesses can be a force for good. Not just in a philanthropic or volunteer service

kind of way – though that’s important. But in an innovative, “new way of doing things” kind

of way. Through inventions, supply chains, e-commerce, smart design, community

investments. Through HR and training. Through experience and expertise. Through

energy efficiency and eco-friendly design. Through products and services that change

the world. YOU BELIEVE THAT BUSINESS PEOPLE CAN BE HEROES. You believe that ethics matter. You believe that the decline of trust in this country is a

tragedy. You believe that corporate social responsibility is smart business. You want

that story to be told. YOU WANT TO CONNECT AND NETWORK WITH OTHERS WHO BELIEVE AS YOU DO. You want to solve problems. Your

employees expect it. It’s part of your company’s DNA. You want to make a difference. You

don’t want to just tell people what your company is or what it stands for. You want to

show people what you are all about. YOU ARE A BUSINESS CIVIC LEADER. YOU SHOULD BE A PART OF THE BUSINESS CIVIC LEADERSHIP CENTER. This manual shows you how.

THE BUSINESS FOR GOOD MAP

In 2011, BCLC launched an online, interactive map (csr.bclcmaps.com) showcasing the role of business in addressing some of the nation’s and the world’s most pressing social issues. The Business for Good Map helps you understand what needs to be done and what partnerships need to be forged, while also telling your story. This is an important platform for the corporate citizenship field, as it is a first-of-its-kind visual representation of social good projects by the business community.

The Business for Good Map helps users readily identify:

What causes or issues leading companies care about, and how they’re investing in them

Opportunities for business-to-business or private-public partnerships

Where resources are being invested across the globe and what community needs are already being met

Where needs or gaps in resources exist

Every company in our network can easily add their projects to the map with our online system. As soon as a new project is added to the Business for Good Map, it is

immediately available for viewing. Participating in BCLC’s Business for Good Map raises the visibility of your program activity and results in the following ways:

Prominence on the Business for Good Map homepage – Recently Added Projects section

Immediate recognition for RSS feed participants

A separate page within the map providing your full company listing

Access via keyword search on the map website

Embedding html code to place a customized view of the map

on other websites, including your intra-net or own website

A section on the BCLC homepage dedicated to the Business for Good Map

One-click Twitter or Facebook share button on project pages

Ability to include your CSR projects on websites anywhere you choose with a simple embed link to your project(s)

In addition, BCLC’s editorial staff often draws story leads from the Business for Good Map, for both our own news coverage as well as external news inquiries.

“AT KPMG, WE BELIEVE CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY IS THE PLATFORM THAT INFLUENCES OUR ENGAGEMENT WITH – AND IMPACT ON – ALL OUR CONSTITUENCIES. It includes the values that guide us, the decisions we make, our actions within and beyond our firm, and the resulting consequences. Our alliance with BCLC helps us stay engaged and have a voice on issues of public and social significance.” — Kathy Hannan, National Managing Partner, Diversity and Corporate Responsibility
