THE TAMPERE FLUTE FEST April 25-26, 2020
YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION The 1st Young Artist Competition will be held in Tampere, Finland on the campus of Pirkanmaa Music School
with Finals on Sunday, April 26, 2020. The competition is open to the public, but normal festival fees are
required to attend the final round.
The competition is divided into 3 categories:
• Category A (18 yrs. & up)
• Category B (12 – 17 yrs.)
• Category C (6 – 11 yrs.)
REPERTOIRE CATEGORY A
The winner of the competition will receive a 1,000€ cash prize and appear in a recital the year following the
Festival. Second and Third Place Winners will be awarded 500€ and 250€ respectively.
Preliminary Recorded Round
1. Partita in A Minor by J. S. Bach (1st movement)
2. Grand Polonaise by Theobald Boehm (must be recorded with piano)
Final Round
Required Selection – La Flute de Pan by Jules Mouquet (3rd movement: Pan et les Nymphs)
Flutists selected for the Final Round will prepare an approximate 20-minute program of their own choosing
which includes the required piece.
The program should include a piece or pieces reflecting a wide variety of styles and/or periods. This may
include single movements of works, sonatas, concerti, and unaccompanied pieces. It is not necessary to
perform all movements of a single work but any individual movement of a work must be performed in its
entirely.
REPERTOIRE CATEGORY B
The first, second and third place winners will be awarded 350€, 150€ and 50€ respectively.
Preliminary Recorded Round

2. Danse de la chèvre by Arthur Honneger
Final Round
Required Selection – Airs de ballet d’ascanio, Adagio et variation by C. Saint Saëns.
Flutists selected for the Final Round will prepare an approximate 15-minute program of their own choosing
which includes the required piece.
The program should include a piece or pieces reflecting a wide variety of styles and/or periods. This may
include single movements of works, sonatas, concerti, and unaccompanied pieces. It is not necessary to
perform all movements of a single work but any individual movement of a work must be performed in its
entirely.
REPERTOIRE CATEGORY C
The first, second and third place winners will be awarded with an honor.
Preliminary Recorded Round
1. Bourree from third cello suite by J.S. Bach arranged by Ronald C. Dishinger (no repeats – find score
on page 4-5.)
Final Round

Flutists selected for the Final Round will prepare an approximate 10-minute program of their own choosing
which includes the required piece.
The program should include a piece or pieces reflecting a wide variety of styles and/or periods. This may
include single movements of works, sonatas, concerti, and unaccompanied pieces. It is not necessary to
perform all movements of a single work but any individual movement of a work must be performed in its
entirely.
REGISTRATION AND FEES
Applicants must apply online using the Competition Form to upload a YouTube link of the preliminary round
repertoire, along with a short biography, photo and pay the nonrefundable application fee (40€). Bank
transfer is the only accepted form of payment. Candidates must state their name and write the following
text: ‘Application fee TFF Young Artist Competition 2020'.
Entries must be submitted by March 15, 2020 and sent to the Festival’s E-Mail:
Flutists must submit their entire program for the Final Round with their application by March 15, 2020.
Finalists will be notified by March 31, 2020.
E-Mail is the preferred means of communication. Please check your E-Mail regularly as this is how you will
be contacted.
Finalists are responsible for arranging their own pianist or requesting one from the Festival. Finalists are
responsible for the accompanist’s fee which includes a rehearsal and performance (35€).
Finalists are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses.
Finals are open to the public.
All judges’ decisions are final.
RECORDING INSTRUCTIONS
Preliminary round recordings must be unedited. Each selection should be recorded individually in one
performance and in the exact repertoire order listed. Works for flute and accompaniment must be recorded
using both instruments. Video recordings will be coded and sent to a judging committee.
Entrants are advised that the recording quality may affect results of the preliminary round.
