  • A LANSING AREA RESOURCES GUIDEFOR CREATIVE KIDS OF ALL AGES

    THE ARTS COUNCILOF GREATER LANSING

    PRESENTS THE

  • Letter from the Executive Director

Young Creatives GuideWelcome to the Arts Council of Greater Lansings Young Creatives Guide. This guide was designed to help creative kids from all over the Lansing area find ways to explore their creativity and grow in the arts.

Inside its pages you will find a variety of offerings from the Arts Councils arts and cultural member organizations. Whether your student is interested in camps, classes, daily workshops or one-time sessions, you will find them here.

In addition to offering opportunities in the literary, performance and visual arts, the organizations listed here also offer a variety of scholarships and other income-based opportunities to ensure that resources are available for everyone.

The Arts Council believes that all youth deserve the chance to explore the arts and tap into their creativity, so we invite you to delve into these pages and dream big!

    Deborah E MikulaExecutive Director

Over the last year, the Arts Council staff and board has been molding and shaping and brainstorming and coalescing our ideas to offer a more expansive program within the arts for youth in the tri-counties. We officially launched the Young Creatives program in April 2014 with three key components that we are excited to share with you.

Young Creatives Scholarships: Grants of up to $1,500 were available to area arts and cultural organizations this past spring to assist underserved youth in attending arts-related programs, camps and classes during the summer. This winter, we will expand these scholarship offerings to include all related art programs throughout the full year.

Young Creatives Billboards: In March 2015, during National Youth Arts Month, we will launch our Young Creatives Billboards, a public campaign celebrating the extraordinary artistic talent of area youth. The project will feature the artwork of 15-30 tri-county area students on billboards placed in strategic locations throughout the tri-counties, and our message will highlight the importance of arts in education.

Young Creatives Guide: If you are reading this, then you will know that the guide you hold in your hands or are viewing on our website is one of the most important elements of this program. The Young Creatives Guide 2014-2015 provides Lansings young creatives, their parents and their teachers with an extensive listing of classes, camps, lectures, workshops and more for anything from writing to dancing to theatreand beyond!

Our valuable work over the course of the last year to recognize and support emerging talent in elementary through high school has also been recognized by Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. We want to thank them for their generous financial support that will help fund printing, marketing, expanded scholarships and other associated program costs.

All of our hard work is paying off as we continue to mold and shape and brainstormwe are committed to grow the Young Creatives Program and provide more creative opportunities and outlets for area youth. As Maya Angelo wrote, You cant use up creativitythe more you use, the more you have. We hope that over the course of the next year you will take advantage of all the creative, innovative and affordable art programs that are offered in our community. Turn the page to begin your artistic journey.
