THE AUTHORMIKHAIL BULGAKOV

A famous Russian writer that is known for his novel "The Master and Margarita."

Career of doctor began for Bulgakov in a small Kiev hospital, after which he was sent as doctor to one of the villages in Smolensk province. It was at this time that the future famous writer starts the book «Young Doctors Notebook » in which he tells about his life in a village far away from civilization.

The story begins at the early years of XX century.

PLACE

Hospital in Russian village Muryovo.

MOOD

The overall atmosphere of the story givesthe two feelings: empathy to doctor'schallenges and smile.

SETTING


CONTEXTThe story is written on behalf of a young

doctor. Young Doctor who, fresh out of his

doctorate, is sent to run a hospital in the

middle of nowhere. From here we see the

naive student that grow into doctor that

faces the stark reality.


It should be noted that Bulgakov divided

the notes about young doctor into 9

chapters not accidentally. Each note is a

new story, new characters and only the

doctor and the hospital remain the same.

In each note, we discover a new person, a

new hero, a new quality. From this mosaic

of stories we receive a complete image of

the doctor.

CHARACTERS

1. DR. VLADIMIR BOMGARD


is the protagonist of the story, a doctor who recently graduated from the university and started an independent practice.

2. PELAGEYA IVANOVNA


is a midwife that has a brusquely kind character. One of those who totally believed in young doctor and supported him.

3. ANNA NIKOLAEVNA


is a skilled nurse that support the doctor in various operations and give essential advice.

4. DEMYAN LUKICH


is young, but very capable feldsher (assistant of physician) that helps Bomgard in gaining practical experience and get used to living in the country.

The story starts in 1917 when

twenty-three year old doctor

received an appointment in a

remote village hospital.

In a fit of cowardice, I cursed medicine and

my statement, submitted five years ago to

the rector of the university.

RISING ACTION

Young doctor feels insecure. He is afraid that he

will not cope if there is a patient who needs an

operation. He is afraid of serious diseases,

especially childbirth with an incorrect position of

the fetus. His first operation was described in

"The Embroidered Towel" and his confidence as a

doctor started to grow.

In this chapter, we see the doctor's

cowardice, but still, we can see

here conscience, kindness, and love of life.

Certainly, these qualities are necessary for a

good doctor.

FALLING ACTION

Young doctor faces the death in "Blizzard"

story. A story about how it was not possible to

defend a life that had just blossomed.

All miseries that doctor has faced in this story

make him think that the old hospital that he

hated is a palace.


QUOTEBeneath my fingers there began a shallow, frequent

trembling, then it started to be broken, stretched to a

thread.

I felt the customary cold in the pit of my stomach, as I

always did when I saw death close to.

I hate death.


CONCLUSIONThe story depicts the life of young doctor that rise his professionalism in unusual environment for him. From page to page we see how he applies his knowledge and improves skills in non-standard cases.


The main hero of the stories does not differ either in titanic will, or in iron character. But he leads a persistent

stubborn battle with diseases.

But he fights not only the disease, the doctor has to overcome his own

cowardice and ignorance.

"Young Doctor's Notebook" was

written by a young man; they are

light, smiling, well convey the

excitement and joy of a graduate

from the medical faculty, which is

only little alike the author.
