Beavers

Preparing for a visit– Pack a healthy picnic meal– Know what to put in your rucksack for a day visit. This could be a cagoule,

drinks, lunch and waterproofs, etc– Help put up a tent.

Visit– Go on a visit to a place of interest. This could be a park, campsite, activity

centre, historic building, beach or similar– Visit a Cub Scout Pack holiday or Scout camp.

Adventure– Take part in an outdoor activity, For example, swimming, climbing, grass

sledging, treasure hunt, canal boating etc– Attend a Sleepover– Learn and use two knots– Follow a laid out trail.

Cubs

Cub Scouts should complete all of the following:– Take part in at least one residential experience

(preferably camping) with a minimum of two nights away. The two nights do not need to be consecutive.

– Explain to other Cub Scouts what activity they enjoyed most whilst on the residential experience and what activity they found hardest. This could be in the form of a poster, story, photographs or similar.

– Learn two new skills and use them, for example: tracking, fire lighting or some basic knots.

– Take part in three new outdoor activities that you have not done before, for example, shelter building, pioneering, archery, skiing, abseiling, a wide game or kite flying

Scouts

Take an active part in one or more Nights Away, totalling at least two nights, preferably camping, to include many of the following activities:

– Help to pitch and strike your tent.– Light a fire and cook at least one meal using an open fire.– Set up a suitable stove, and prepare a meal using a stove.– Demonstrate personal hygiene.– Keep your belongings organised and tidy within your accommodation.– Maintain a tidy and orderly site.– Take part in a wide game.– Take part in a campfire or other entertainment.– Build a simple pioneering project.– Build a useful camp gadget.– Explore the environment of your camp.– With others, successfully complete a two hour activity or project.– Provide a service commitment to the site for about an hour.

Scouts

In addition to the above, demonstrate the following basic emergency aid skills during the Nights Away experience: – Understand the initial actions to take in the

event of an accident.– Understand the importance of getting adult

help and when to call the emergency services.

– Know how to treat minor cuts, burns and scalds, stings and insect bites.

So what are badges all about? The Awards and badges form a progressive

scheme from 6 to 25, They include the Chief Scout’s Awards Participation Awards can be used to recognise

participation in the Programme. Moving-On Awards improve links between Sections Activity and Partnership Badges encourage

individual and group development Badges are awarded on the basis of ‘Personal Best’
