Young People

Why there's no good reason for not appointing a teenage trustee

Young trustee, Chloe Donovan, explains why she thinks it's regrettable that so few charities have trustees from her age group.

Chloe, aged 19, is one of two teenagers who were recently appointed to the board of a charity that campaigns for social action opportunities for young people. While most of her fellow trustees are much older than she is, she has stated that there is no good reason for a charity not to consider appointing a young trustee.

Want to hear more on why your organisation could benefit from including younger people as board members? Take a look at what else Chloe had to say in the full article from Third Sector.

Pam nad oes yna ddim rheswm da dros beidio a benodi ymddiriedolwr yn ei arddegau

Mae’r ymddiriedolwr ifanc, Chloe Donovan, yn egluro pam mae hi’n credu ei bod yn anffodus bod gan gyn lleied o elusennau ymddiriedolwyr o’i grŵp oedran hi.

Mae Chloe, 19 oed, yn un o ddau yn eu harddegau a gafodd eu penodi'n ddiweddar i fwrdd elusen sy'n ymgyrchu dros gyfleoedd gweithredu cymdeithasol i bobl ifanc. Tra mae'r rhan fwyaf o'i chydymddiriedolwyr yn llawer hŷn na hi, dywedodd nad oes yna ddim rheswm da i elusen beidio ag ystyried penodi ymddiriedolwr ifanc.

Am glywed mwy pam y gallai'ch mudiad elwa o gynnwys pobl iau fel aelodau o'r bwrdd? Cymerwch olwg ar beth arall oedd gan Chloe i'w ddweud yn yr erthygl lawn gan Third Sector.

AGE CYMRU – PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

As part of our Age Positive Week celebrations Age Cymru is holding a photography competition and

we’d like to invite you to take part.

The theme of the competition is positive ageing: this is open to personal interpretation but entries

should aim to celebrate the positive aspects of ageing for older people in Wales. For example,

images could feature older people engaged in different activities, interacting with younger

generation or anything else that challenges negative stereotypes. The more imaginative the better!

A prize of a £100 voucher will be awarded to the winner of each class. (Under 16 / 16 and over).

The competition rules

• There are two entry classes: (i) entrants aged under 16 and (ii) entrants aged 16 and over

• Prize(s) will be awarded to the winner in each class.

• This is an amateur photography competition and entrants should not be professional

photographers. See Terms and Conditions on our website for more details.

• Entry to the competition is free.

• Entries can only be submitted by email as a digital attachment (unfortunately printed entries

cannot be accepted).

The closing date for all entries is midnight on Friday 7 November 2014.

For more information, terms and conditions and details on how to enter please visit

http://bit.ly/agepositivephotocomp or contact Deborah Smith, Engagement Manager, Age Cymru on

02920 431578.

Loss of the Rest means bonus grants for South Wales’ charities

The closure of a popular convalescent home serving South Wales people for more than a century will at least have a happy outcome for the local voluntary sector.

The winding-up of Porthcawl's Rest Bay hotel by its trustees has resulted in the opportunity for charities to access 'unrestricted funding' of up to £100,000 from a grants scheme managed by WCVA.

The terms of its constitution require that any funds remaining afterwards - around £500,000 should be distributed to a registered charity with similar aims and objectives - and WCVA has been asked to help do this through an awards process.

Eligible organisations have to operate in the following areas: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The assessment process will be managed by WCVA, but the final decisions will be made by the Rest's Board of Trustees. Applications can be made from early October, and the closing date for is 30 January 2015.

Bydd diwedd cartref gwella poblogaidd, sydd wedi bod yn gwasanaethu pobl y De ers dros ganrif, o leiaf yn arwain at ganlyniad hapus i’r sector gwirfoddol lleol.

Rhaid i fudiadau cymwys fod ar waith yn yr ardaloedd canlynol: Blaenau Gwent, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr, Castell-nedd Port Talbot, Caerffili, Caerdydd, sir Gaerfyrddin, Merthyr Tudful, Casnewydd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Abertawe, Torfaen a Bro Morgannwg.

Bydd y broses asesu yn cael ei rheoli gan WCVA, ond Bwrdd Ymddiriedolwyr The Rest fydd yn gwneud y penderfyniadau terfynol. Bydd ceisiadau yn cael eu gwahodd o ddechrau mis Hydref, a'r dyddiad cau yw 30 Ionawr 2015.
