Dear Kat,
I am ready to have a baby but all my friends are beggingme not to. My ex and I broke up earlier this summer but westill talk and are trying to work things out. Before we fell outwe agreed to try for a baby.
I have finished university now and I don’t see the problemwith us having a child. We both work and he has his ownplace. My friends think we are rushing into it and keep ask-ing me to reconsider.
What should I do?
Carmel
Hi Carmel,
Thanks for your letter. No baby should intentionally be brought into the world
when the relationship between its parents is rocky. It’s unfair. The addition of a baby to the most solid of foundations
can make or break a couple, so what do you think it woulddo if the couple are not seeing eye to eye to begin with?
I’m with your friends on this one and would advise you tothink long and hard about the decision that you’re planningto make. A baby is for life, which to some extent, means thatthis guy will be in your life for just as long. Can you handlethat?
Wait this one out and see how you feel after some seriousthought.

SHE CAPTURED ourhearts the minute shestepped on the X Factorstage and delivered oneof the most memorable
auditions the ITV1 show hadever seen.
Misha B, a petite, confident, yet coy, Mancunian, belted outa show-stopping rendition of
Aretha Franklin’s Respect tocelebrity judges Gary Barlow,Kelly Rowland, Tulisa and Louiswith the ease and grace of apro. A star had been born, andwe all knew it.
But her journey on the showwasn’t as smooth as we allthought it might be. She unfairlyfaced criticism from some
judges who claimed that her‘backstage antics’ could jeop-ardise her place in the show; acomment, which rocked thestar, her subsequent perform-ances and audience support.
Fast-forward 12 months andthis public rigmarole seems likenothing but a distant memory.
The 20-year-old, who is now
London-based, boasts a criti-cally acclaimed mixtape, a top20 single, a highly-anticipateddebut album in the making anda best newcomer MOBO awardnomination to boot.
She laughs modestly when Ilist her tremendous achieve-ments thus far.
“My journey has been thebest [since leaving the show],”the singer tells me.
“And I think that’s even anunderstatement. I can’t believeit. God is so good, I can’t com-plain. I’m now working on myalbum, I had a song that was inthe top 20 and along with that,[my first single] Home Run isstill being played in America onBET. It’s my dream to have any-thing on there.”
We catch up on the day thevideo for her second single, theemotionally charged ballad DoYou Think of Me, is released. The mention of the video’s con-tent, which follows the life of afather who falls into a life ofalcoholism and his subsequentquest to rekindle a relationshipwith his estranged daughter, isa sobering one.
“It’s quite a personal video. At the time I was thinking, ‘howam I going to have a song thatsays what I want to say in theright way?’”
Misha was left in the care ofher aunt and ‘biggest inspira-tion’ when she was a baby.Following the singer’s stint onthe popular TV show, herestranged birth mother madecontact with the press.
However, despite such paral-lels, Misha, who co-wrote thesong, says it has more of a“general appeal that everyonecan relate to.”
She says: “When I was think-ing about the treatment, Iwanted to put myself in every-body else’s shoes. Whenever
anybody listens to that song, Iget so many people say, ‘itreminds me of my grandma thatpassed away’ or ‘it reminds meof my ex.’ Now seeing the videoit has so many different thingsthat people can relate to. I reallywanted to convey that with thevideo.”
She promises that her albumwill be a solid body of workencompassing a range of emo-tions, musical styles and per-sonal experiences encounteredthroughout her journey.
It may also feature anappearance from hip-hop starMissy Elliott who has made nosecret of her desire to work withthe singer.
“Well, I can’t say much, butwe’re hoping to get somethingdone for the album,” this is allMisha will tell me about a possi-ble collaboration with the USrapper many likened her tothroughout her X Factor jour-ney.
She is, however, more vocalabout recent news that she willsupport Nicki Minaj in concertlater this year.
“With the Nicki Minaj tour, Ididn’t even know this was goingto be an opportunity. I’m justvery blessed and grateful rightnow. At first I thought my man-agement were pulling my leg,but when I saw the email, it con-firmed it. And then Nickitweeted about it,” she explains.
Adding: “I’m ready to sharethe stage with her. I’m nervousbecause it’s an arena tour andNicki’s one of the hottest starsin the world right now. I’m veryexcited.” And also well pre-pared.
The starlet reveals that she isreceiving tips and pointers fromher former X Factor mentor andsinger, Kelly Rowland whoremains in contact.
When talk moves to thefuture, she pauses:
“You never know what Godhas in store or what is next. I’mjust very blessed and gratefulfor right now.”
