Why should I take the ACT WorkKeys®?Taking the ACT WorkKeys® assessments is an important first step to prepare for education, training, or a career. Because test questions are based on situations in the everyday work world, ACT WorkKeys® scores help you compare your skills to the skills real jobs require. These scores help employers choose the most qualified candidates for their jobs.

Once you have taken the assessments, you may be awarded an NCRC Certificate. This certificate is a portable credential that shows employers anywhere in the United States the achievement of a certain level of workplace employability skills.

WHAT IS ACT’S NATIONAL CAREER READINESS CERTIFICATE (NCRC)?

ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a portable

credential that demonstrates achievement and a certain level of

workplace employability skills, validating “real world” skills that

employers believe are critical to job success.

Individuals can earn the NCRC by taking three WorkKeys®

assessments: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and

Reading for Information. Questions are based on situations in

the everyday work world.

Successful completion of ACT WorkKeys® assessments in Applied

Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information

can lead to earning ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate

(NCRC), a credential you can take with you. This portable certificate

has been earned by more than a million people and is valued across

the United States.

How do I prepare for the assessments? To learn more about each assessment, including sample questions, go to www.act.org/workkeys/assess. Additionally, you can purchase: Practice with Keytrain at www.grccworkkeys.com

When do I get the results, and how do I know if I passed?Your Reading for Information, Locating Information and Applied Math scores will be available immediately after testing. Your official certificate will arrive approximately 30 days after your test date. One of our career staff will meet with you to review your test results and discuss your educational goals.

May I take the assessments again? If you are not satisfied with your test scores, you may choose to take the assessments again.

What assessments are in the National Career Readiness Certificate? These three WorkKeys® assessments are the basis of the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) program:

People from every level of education and experience can

benefit from taking the ACT Workkeys® assessments.

Whether you are currently in high school or college, or

perhaps out of work and looking to enter the workforce,

ACT Workkeys® can provide the NCRC Certification to

get you started. Perhaps you are a working professional;

having the NCRC Certificate can help you further develop

a successful career pathway. Professional associations,

businesses, and government agencies from across the

United States, view this certification with high regard.

IS THE ACT NATIONAL CAREER READINESS CERTIFICATE FOR ME?

Applied MathThis assessment measures the skills you need to apply mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques to work-related problems. The assessment questions require you to set up and solve the types of problems and do the types of calculations that actually occur in the workplace. This assessment is designed to be taken with a calculator. A formula sheet that includes all formulas required for the assessment is provided.

Locating InformationThe WorkKeys® Locating Information assessment measures the skills needed for understanding workplace graphics. You are asked to find information in a graphic or insert information into a graphic. You must also compare, summarize, and analyze information found in related graphics.

Reading for InformationThe WorkKeys® Reading for Information assessment measures your ability to use written text in order to do a job. The written texts include memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, and regulations. It is often the case that workplace communications are not necessarily well-written or targeted to the appropriate audience. Reading for Information materials do not include information that is presented graphically, such as in charts, forms, or blueprints.
