Questions: • Do you understand the purpose of praying with/in the Spirit? • How much time, in any given week do you spend praying with/in the Spirit? • Describe the difference between the Gift of Tongues and Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

• Fact/Fiction: Praying in the Spirit effects a person’s health / Immune System

• Quick Testimony: Tell me about a time when you prayed in the Spirit and received revelation,

direction, etc… from the Lord.

3 Questions Answered from Lesson

• Know that the Baptism in the Holy Ghost is a prerequisite to pray in the Spirit

• Understand the difference in “Baptism’s”

• Know how to be baptized in the Holy Ghost and practice praying in the Spirit

What are we covering? • Connection between the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and praying in other tongues. • Benefits of praying in other tongues/Spirit. • Rightly dividing the Word of God • How do I receive my prayer language? • Praying in the spirit

Different Types of Baptisms - Hebrews 6:1-2 speaks of baptisms (PLURAL)

Water Baptism vs. Holy Spirit Baptism • Repentance (Mathew 28, Mark 16:16) • Water (Mathew 3:11, Acts 8:30) • Symbolic of leaving the old life behind (sin) and being raised into a new creation in Christ. • Identifying with the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:3-4)

Water Baptism vs. Holy Spirit Baptism • Empowered as a witness for Christ (Acts 1:8) • Prayer language/tongues (Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 14, Jude 1:20) • Gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4:11, Mark 16:15-20) • Reveals the Word of God, teaches, (John 14:26, 1 john 2:20-27) • Shows us things to come (John 16:13, Joel 2:28)

Born of the Spirit vs. Baptism in Holy Spirit • In John 3 Jesus clearly defines the new birth to Nicodemus. We must first realize that we are Spirit,

soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). The Spirit side of man is dead until we accept Christ (Romans 10:9-10). The spirit is our connection to God that Adam lost in the garden through disobedience. After being born again Now the Soul our (mind, will, and emotions) must continue to be renewed and regenerated through The Word of God. This new birth should not be confused with Holy Spirit Baptism. They each have their purpose and function in the life of a believer. Salvation comes through faith in Christ alone. Holy Spirit Baptism is the promise of the father (Acts 2:38-39), a gift to us as heirs of God in the new covenant.

Lesson 4 – Praying with/in the Spirit

AU 102 – Your Daily Time with the Father

TheAIMChurch.com/AU102/ Page 8

Born of the Spirit vs. Baptism in Holy Spirit ▪ Luke 24:49 ▪ Holy Spirit baptism is for the empowerment to overcome the flesh (Romans 8:11-14) and to help us

be an effective witness for Christ (Acts 1:8). He comes to assist and help us fulfill The Lords plan for our lives and equip us with the gifts to build the body of Christ. He also teaches us and gives us revelation of the Word of God. (john 16:13) He shows us things to come and leads us into truth.”

Tongues/prayer language • Acts 2:4-11 • Acts 19:1-6 • Acts 10:44-48 • Acts 8:12-25 • Acts 9:17-18, 1 Corinthians 14:18, Mark 16:15

What is the Purpose for Tongues?

Personal Prayer Language vs Diverse Kinds of Tongues and Interpretation • This is a believer’s personal prayer language between them and God. Given by the Holy

Spirit to edify one’s own life through continuous use. This is to be used in private. The believers spirit prays with the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

• 1 Corinthians 14:2-4, Jude 1:20, Romans 8:27-27

Personal Prayer Language vs Diverse Kinds of Tongues and Interpretation • This manifestation of the Holy Spirit is given to certain individuals in a church body

setting as the Holy Spirit wills. It should be followed by interpretation in a known language of the present audience. It is a ministry gift Given by God to edify the body. 1 Corinthians 14:5, 1 Corinthians 14:13-18, 1 Corinthians 12:10, 1 Corinthians 12:28

Are the Holy Spirit’s gifts still being given? • Some say that’s not for our generation? 1 Corinthians 13:8, 1 Corinthians 12:30 • People will often take the scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:8 out of context. Paul is making

reference to the consummation of the ages. Or some will take 1 Corinthians 12:30 where Paul states do all speak with tongues? And say that tongues are not for all of us. We must realize that Paul is talking about the ministry gift of diverse kinds of tongues here and not the personal prayer language that is available to all believers. Jesus states in Mark 16:17 that these signs are available to those who believe.

Doctrines of Demons

• Cessationism - In Christianity, cessationism is the doctrine that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing ceased with the original twelve apostles. This is generally opposed to continuationism, which teaches that the Holy Spirit may bestow the spiritual gifts on persons other than the original twelve apostles at any time

• 1 Timothy 4:1 and 2 Timothy 3

The Holy Spirit for us! • Acts 2:38-39

Lesson 4 – Praying with/in the Spirit

• Hebrews 13:8 • Malachi 3:6 • Romans 2:11 • John 3:34 • Numbers 23:19

Rivers of Living Water - John 7:37-39

God’s Word doesn’t change!!!!! - Hebrews 6:17-18

Immutable definition 1. unchanging over time or unable to be changed:

synonyms: fixed · set · rigid · inflexible · permanent · established · carved in stone

How do I receive the Holy Spirit? • Abide in His Word and obey. (Acts 5:32) • Hunger and thirst for the Holy Spirit. (Mathew 5:6) • Ask, believe, receive in faith and speak! • Luke 11:9-13 • Mathew 7:7-12 • Mathew 21:22 • Galatians 3:2 • Acts 8:17
