The GC2018 Road Events are a great opportunity to witness sporting greatness up close. To be part of the action, you need to know about the races! Read on for information on each event, including course maps and times.
TRIATHLON Triathlon is a true test of fitness, skill and endurance. This sport will showcase a combination of three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. To view the start and finish line you will need to have bought a ticket; however, there will be some great places you can view the race and cheer on the athletes.
WHEN: Thursday 5 April and Saturday 7 April
TIME: 9:30am-3:10pm 9:30am-3pm (men’s and women’s)
LOCATION: Southport Broadwater Parklands

MARATHON The Marathon event takes place on the final day of GC2018 as some of the world’s fittest athletes take on the grueling 42km course. There will be some great places to view the Marathon course along the picturesque coastline.
WHEN: Sunday 15 April
TIME: 6:10am-12:10pm (men’s and women’s)

TIME TRIALThe Cycling Individual Time Trial will combine stamina with speed as the cyclists race the clock, starting and finishing at Currumbin Beachfront. Who will time their race to perfection and record the fastest time to win gold?
WHEN: Tuesday 10 April
TIME: 10:00am-1:30pm (men’s) & 2:45pm-4:30pm (women’s)

CYCLING ROAD RACEThe Cycling Road Race will stretch over an 18.7km loop that will combine stamina with strategy as competitors plot the perfect moment to break away from the pack. Against a picturesque backdrop of Currumbin Beachfront to Currumbin Valley, fans will witness cycling competition at its finest.
WHEN: Saturday 14 April
TIME: 7:45am-11:15am (women’s) & 12:30pm-4:45pm (men’s)

RACE WALKThe Race Walk event will start and finish at the beautiful Currumbin Beachfront. Along the picturesque Pacific Parade, the men and women will show composure, endurance and strength as they chase gold medals.
WHEN: Sunday 8 April
TIME: 7:00am-12pm (men’s and women’s)

TWO WEEKS TO GO � Plan your celebrations. Why not head to the beach for
a paddle board or a swim before the event? Or maybe check out Festival 2018 afterwards?
� Be ‘event ready’. Delegate jobs and make a list of who will bring what.
� Deck yourself out! Plan your outfits with plenty of colour or grab some face paint to get your game face on.
� It’s time to hang up your bunting and let the flags fly high in support of your favourite nation.

BOROBI SAYSRemember, it’s better to walk or cycle as some roads will be busy during GC2018.
PLAN YOUR PICNIC
‘WHEELIE’ TASTY PASTA SALADWHAT YOU’LL NEED:
� Cooked pasta (cooled) � Sliced cucumber � Sliced cherry tomatoes � Chopped shallots � 1 tsp of extra-virgin olive oil � ¼ cup lemon juice � Salt and pepper � A packet of Danish feta
WHAT TO DO:1. Slice the cucumber, shallots and
tomatoes then mix together with the cooled cooked pasta.
2. Combine the lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper into a bowl. Pour over the top of the salad and mix together.
3. Crumble the feta over the salad and store in the fridge for half an hour prior to serving.
ROCKY ‘ROAD RACE’WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
� 200g milk chocolate � 80g dark chocolate � 50g cut up marshmallows – mix up
the colours � 100g macadamia nuts � 50g chopped up shortbread biscuits � 25g raisins � 25g unsalted butter
WHAT TO DO:1. Line a baking tray with plastic glad
wrap so it’s ready for the chocolate to be poured in.
2. Place the dark and milk chocolate with the butter into a heat proof bowl over a pan of simmering water.
3. Stir the chocolate and butter until melted and add the remaining ingredients in with the melted chocolate.
4. Spread the chocolate mix into the pan and let it chill in the fridge to set for two hours or until desired.
5. Slice it up and store it in a portable container.

The athletes competing in the Road Events will need plenty of energy, and so will you. Don’t forget to organise your picnic to make the most out of your day out. Share your creations with us and tag @GC2018 on Twitter and Instagram.
WHAT TO DO:1. Spread the olive oil across
the baking tray. Lay the pastry out onto the baking tray and spread the mustard onto the pastry. Then slice the pastry long ways (approx. the same size as the bacon strips).
2. Sprinkle the cheese over the pastry slices and season with pepper. Put the bacon strips onto the pastry and carefully twist the ingredients together to give it a curl.
3. Repeat until all the ingredients are used, then place the baking tray into the fridge for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 220 degrees.
4. Remove the twists from the fridge and coat each one with the egg wash. Then place them in the oven for 20 minutes or until desired. Remove and allow time for them to cool before eating.
TIME TRIAL TWISTIESWHAT YOU’LL NEED:
� 2 sheets of puff pastry � Plain flour � 1 tbsp English mustard � 100g grated cheddar
cheese � Pinch of ground black
pepper � 2 slices of bacon � 1 egg, lightly beaten � 1 tbsp olive oil

‘BICY’COW BELL Recycle a tin can and decorate the outside with some paper and anything you can think of to make your bell stand out! Poke a hole in the bottom of the tin can using a hammer and a nail. Thread some string through the hole and tie on a few wooden beads to the end of the string inside the tin. TOP TIP: Let an adult hammer the nail into the tin can or make sure they are around to supervise.
CELEBRATION WANDSFind some wooden sticks to use as wands. Glue streamers, ribbons and bells onto the wooden sticks. Give the wands time to dry and then you’re ready to go!
NOISE MAKERSRecycle a bottle and decorate it with markers, paint, tissue paper, glue, etc. Choose some materials to add inside the bottle (e.g. stones, pebbles, rice). Secure the top and get ready to cheer and celebrate!TOP TIP: Be resourceful and use recycled materials.

9 Pull your look together with a colourful wig. You won’t lose your mates if you’re wearing a fluro green or pink wig.
9 As the day turns into night, you could pull out the glow in the dark face paint.
DRESS TO IMPRESSLet your chosen nation’s colours shine as you dress to impress or stand out from the crowd with a crazy costume. Be creative and think of your own theme or try one of the ideas below to get started.
