Frequently Asked QuestionsWhen and where can I take the PHR exam?

The PHR exam is administered year-round by HRCI’s testing provider, Prometric. Testing locations are available throughout the world. You can locate a testing center near you at www.prometric.com/hrci.

Is the PHR an accredited certification?

Yes, the PHR is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). NCCA’s rigorous standards ensure quality, validity and reliability of the PHR certification, making the PHR and HRCI’s other certifications the most trusted and valued by HR professionals and the organizations they serve.

What PHR exam preparation materials are available and recommended?

You are encouraged to use a variety of study methods while preparing for the PHR exam. HRCI does not endorse any particular preparation resource. However, you can find diverse exam preparation options and preparation bundles available for purchase at www.hrci.org/byob.

What is the format of the exam?

The PHR is a computer-based exam that consists of 150 multiple-choice questions, plus 25 pre-test questions. You will have 3 hours to complete the exam.

What should I bring on exam day?

On exam day, you must present a valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID with a signature, such as a driver’s license with a photograph or a passport. For more information on being prepared for exam day, visit www.hrci.org/exam-day-tips.

When will I know my exam results?

You will receive preliminary results at the testing center and an official results report 2–4 weeks after testing.

How will employers know I have earned a PHR?

HRCI credential holders earn a digital badge that you can share in email signatures and on various social media platforms, such as LinkedIn. Learn more about digital badges at www.hrci.org/digital-badges.
