UK based R&D departments design the Wylex products fromscratch, this particular example shows a recent introduction forAmendment 3 to BS7671, a Domestic Switch Fuse Unit, this isjust one of the hundreds of new products that were createdfor Amendment 3 of BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.

MCBs, RCBOs Distribution Boards, Consumer Units, Fuse Switch, MCCBPanelboards and many other products are manufactured within Wylex Electrium& Siemens accredited facilities.

Wylex test laboratory is UKAS accredited. TheUnited Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) isthe sole national accreditation body recognisedby the British Government to assess thecompetence of organisations that providecertification, testing, inspection and calibrationservices. It evaluates these conformityassessment bodies and then accredits themwhere they are found to meet the internationallyspecified standard.

UK & Offshore manufacturing, production facilities are accredited to ISO9001,these facilities are independently audited and operate recognised standards forQuality Assurance, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management.

Wylex has been serving the UK market for more than 118 years and stillmanufactures product in its factory at Wythenshawe, Manchester and its sisterlocation in Wigan. As part of the Siemens family Wylex also benefits from aglobal manufacturing network that provides high quality products for its UK &International customers.

Wylex engineers manage every stage of product life cycle for all Wylex products, from concept to finishedproduct Wylex engineers are responsible for all aspects of design including the requirements of all relevant BS EN & IEC product standards. This process includes design of individual components, production tooling &manufacturing processes for finished products. Wylex test facilities validate products and systems as fully typetested items & assemblies to ensure that specifiers and installers receive proven robust quality products thatwill provide reliable service for the life of the installation.

An organisation (like Wylex) accredited by UKAS candemonstrate competence, impartiality and reliability in itsability to deliver results.

Accreditation ensures that everyone from specifiers, purchasers, installers and users can have confidence in thequality of goods and in the provision of services throughout thesupply chain.

The Wylex range includes domestic commercial & industrialcircuit protection products & systems. The domestic circuitprotection range is the largest product range in the market andthe majority of applications can be serviced from catalogueitems. In addition Wylex also offers a custom built productservice for those more demanding applications that needspecial engineering. This service is available of single & threephase product ranges.

What Makes Wylex Your Partner of Choice ?Several factors, its not just that Wylex invents, designs, tests & makes its own products. Often Wylex exceeds standards suchas RoHS, & other regulatory requirements with innovations like the use of low smoke & fume paint on enclosures andaccessories such as non combustible blanks for Amendment 3 Consumer Units.

Established 1897 in Wythenshawe Manchester

One hundred & eighteen years of service, with many innovations along the way, including the first consumer unit, leadingthe way on 17th Edition, creating High Integrity units, being first to market with Amendment 3 consumer units etc

Research & Development Retaining control of product & systems design is a key requirement for continuity of quality & reliability, UK designengineers look after all stages of design & performance validation

Production Engineering Equally important, our local production engineering teams takes designs into pre-production proving and make productfor several validation stages and performance testing

UKAS Test Laboratory The local UKAS test laboratory team certify all Wylex products to the relevant BS EN & IEC standards before full scaleproduction commences and type tests standard and customised product for special applications

Standard Manufacturing Two UK factory locations, and some offshore facilities e.g. Siemens MCB RCBO factory are used to produce Wylexproducts. UK factories cater for all local customised special product requirements.

Specials - Design & Build Local design services are used to create customer specific product & systems from special consumer units through tofactory built MCCB Panelboards with circuit protection monitoring & controls

UKAS Certification for Products & Assemblies

UKAS certificates of conformity are a standard part of the Wylex supporting documentation that specifiers & buyers ofall kind can rely upon as part of the decision making process demonstrating diligence of all parties

UK BASED SERVICES

RoHS Compliance As part of the Siemens family Wylex operates standards over an above the UK legal framework and more thancomplies with RoHS requirements the aim is to eradicate use of hazardous substances

Low Smoke & Fume paint The use of low smoke & fume paint is standard on all Amendment 3 consumer units, these products must have noncombustible enclosures, low smoke & fume paint is another example of the Wylex commitment to exceed standards

Non combustible cover blanks Continuing to exceed standards Wylex offers non combustible blanks for unused ways in non combustible enclosuresfor Amendment 3 consumer units

Mains tails cable entry gland Wylex offers this gland for use with the metal enclosures of non combustible consumer units, although not required bythe wiring regulations these are recommended by Wylex and the IET

Flame Retardant outgoing cable grommets

Wylex offers flame retardant cable entry accessories for outgoing cables too, these give mechanical protection andassist with maintaining the necessary IP ratings to meet the wiring regulations

Consumer Unit Pattress for Non Combustible Enclosures

Designed & introduced specifically to manage groups of cables into of Amendment 3 non combustible enclosures, thissimple accessory allows the installer to achieve higher IP ratings than the minimum required by the wiring regulations

Intumescent Strips Further enhancing the opportunities for improving fire containment the Wylex intumescent strips can be quickly andeasily fitted to consumer units without any special tools. Yet again Wylex delivers above minimum standards

Fire Test CertificationRecent new regulations require certain products such as consumer units and similar switchgear to have noncombustible enclosures so as to contain any fire that may occur, obviously requiring new tests for such products Wylexproducts are tested for fire containment

Retrofit Upgrade Kits A special replacement cover & lid design make life easy when upgrading existing metal consumer units to the latestversion of the wiring regulations, a very cost effective alternative to replacing the entire unit

EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

Consumer Units for DomesticHousehold Premises

The widest range of domestic circuit protection products in the UK caters for all domestic household installationrequirements

Similar Switchgear - Skeletonsreplaced by Meter Cabinet Units

Skeleton units are unlikely to meet Amendment 3 requirements, non combustible enclosures must contain any fire thatmay occur and that means using a full enclosure made from non combustible materials, Wylex offers a full range

Similar Switchgear - DomesticSwitch Fuse Units

Switch fuse units in domestic household premises must have non combustible enclosures, Wylex domestic switch fuseenclosures are full metal non combustible units that meet the requirements of BSEN61439 & BS7671

Similar Switchgear - OtherEquipment

A full range of non combustible enclosures from 4 ways to 38 ways (18mm modules) for use with loose devices isreadily available, as are TP&N MCB Distribution boards for the larger dwelling

TP & N MCB Distribution Boards& Devices

Systems up to 250A rated boards and with 10kA MCB & RCBO devices. Wylex commercial circuit protection productsoffer value engineered 3 phase solutions

MCCB Panel Boards & Devices MCCB panelboards to 800A incomer with outgoers to 250A cater for larger power distribution applications incommercial & industrial installations

Industrial Switch Fuse & Isolators A range of TPN & SPN switch fuse products cater for single circuit applications up to 800A
