Woman’s domestic abuse warning A FiFe woman who was strangled by her ex-partner in full view of her young children has urged others not to suffer in silence. in an exclusive interview with The Courier, the mother-of-three gave a dramatic account of how she went from being a “well educated and quite confident” woman to someone who had a serious drink problem, zero confidence and who stopped seeing her friends. She told how the relationship with her boyfriend started off romantic but quickly became “suffocating” as he tried to control her life. The woman spoke of the night when her drunken partner turned aggressive and finally went for her — placing his hands around her throat and throttling her. She said that he only stopped when her young children climbed out of their beds and came into the room to see what the commotion was about. “Bit by bit my confidence dropped and i ended up with low self-esteem,” she said. “i began to drink more as a coping strategy and was on antidepressants. “He said he’d never hit a woman before, and he didn’t — he tried to strangle me.” She said the impact on her and her children had been considerable. But thanks to the Freedom programme at Saje Scotland in Lochgelly, she has managed to turn their lives around.
