CLICK WAS OUR FIRST GALLERY

SHOW THAT DISPLAYED THE WORK

OF THE YOUTH OF COVENANT HOUSE

GEORGIA, WHOM WE WORKED WITH

IN DECEMBER OF 2008.

We distributed 40 black and white disposable cameras to the youth at Covenant House

and after giving them some basic education on photography left them for two weeks to

carry their cameras around with them and document their lives. We chose disposable

cameras for their ease of use and the fact that they allow first time photographers to

concentrate on taking a well composed photograph. At the end of the two weeks, the

cameras were collected for development and processing by the members of YPP. The

final images were curated with the assistance of Julian Cox, Curator of Photography at

Atlanta's High Museum of Art. 20 of the best images were chosen for display at the

Hagedorn Foundation Gallery in Atlanta.

YPP IS MORE THAN SIMPLY

CREATING AND DISPLAYING IMAGES,

IT IS A VEHICLE FOR BRINGING

AWARENESS TO COVENANT HOUSE,

WHICH PROVIDES MUCH NEEDED

ASSISTANCE AND SERVICES TO

HOMELESS YOUTH.

The Click show served as a great opportunity for our

project participants to display th k, but just as important

it allowed visitors to the show to interact with members of

Covenant House and learn more about their cause.

The event in turn served as a fundraiser and all proceeds

generated at the show were donated by us to Covenant House

Georgia to help further their good work.

Donations are continuing to generate due to the nature of our project. The total amount (once all twenty photographs are sold) of money the first project can

raise in print sales is $2000. Separate donations are also created through awareness brought to Covenant House by our project. Although hard to predict, these

donationations are expected to increase exponentially as the project progresses.

THE FUTURE OF YPPWe will continue our non-profit photo project in order to help generate funds for underprivileged homeless youth.

In late 2009 we plan to expand our project to include additional Covenant House's such as the New Orleans and Ft. Lauderdale chapters.

Ultimately we would like to implement our project as a permanent Covenant House sponsored event. Our photo projects will run exactly like our first and ultimately we would hold a similar gallery show to benefit each city's Covenant House.

The ongoing project between three SCAD-Atlanta colleagues,Frazer Spowart and Jason Riffe met as graduate photography students in 2007. The third member joined in Spring of 2008 and is Jessica Little, a graduate student in graphic design. Youth Photography Project was created between them as a way to both increase their experience teaching the technical and digital aspects of photography as well as to connect with their community.
