Message from the CEO Dear Friend, In the work we do in Pakistan and UK , I come across people who say, “What is the use of being aware of Human Rights?” The truth is that our society is made up of agreements. These agreements play a big part in our lives, aecting us in many ways. We have agreements to be honest or to be dishonest; to work hard or to avoid work; to look after our families or to ignore them; to help the young or to turn a blind eye to our teenagers. Not too long ago it was a custom to open the door for a lady, or give your seat up for an elderly person or to remove from oce corrupt individuals. Times change and old agreements fade away and new ones take their place. The survival of a community or a home depends on the agreements followed by individuals of that group. What are the agreements we follow today? You and I play a part in bringing these new agreements into society. A community agreeing on and tolerating poor quality education create an impact not only on this civilisation but also the next. Ten people agreeing that a policeman can treat a person worse than an animal, promotes similar behaviour by others in the police-force. Ten thousand or more people insisting that a person is innocent till proven guilty will create a much fairer society with ethical members. Improving the standards of these agreements on which we all operate, is the responsibility of every individual. Each one of us has to ensure that we strive towards better self-conduct and set an example for others to follow. The 30 Human Rights, as given by Universal Declaration of Human Rights, lays down the basic agreements that when followed, make planet earth a HOME for all of its inhabitants. This creates respect and tolerance for each individual whatever their beliefs, race, colour, education, wealth, appearance or abilities. You are a vital part of your community. Message from the CEODear Friend, In the work we do in Pakistan and UK , I come across people who say, “What is the use of being aware of Human Rights?” The truth is that our society is made up of agreements. These agreements play a big part in our lives, affecting us in many ways. We have agreements to be honest or to be dishonest; to work hard or to avoid work; to

look after our families or to ignore them; to help the young or to turn a blind eye to our teenagers.

Not too long ago it was a custom to open the door for a lady, or give your seat up for an elderly person or to remove from office corrupt individuals.

Work with us to raise the standards of agreements on Human Rights.

Thank you for what you do and will continue to do. Here is our next Newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading it. Fareeda Abbasi Bulbrook

How has YOUTH TOGETHER Meetings helped me?I was a child with lots of issues. I was born premature and was called a miracle baby. Due to being sick all the time, as I got a little bigger, one of my ear had hearing

problem. This delayed my speaking skills. In school I was considered slow in learning and needed one-on-one tutoring to help me catchup with other students. As I could not cope well in the classroom my mother after class 6 decided to take me out of school. I then did home schooling. I took English and Math tuition, attended Art and Computer classes. I even volunteered at UNICEF and worked at a clothes shop.

I had problems in counting my money, in sorting out directions and also in telling the time. I managed to overcome all these difficulties on my own. I have done my Matriculation and worked for two years at Pizza Hut. Now since 9 years I am teaching at Learning Tree. I am proud to say I have never taken one day off at work. Now how did YOUTH TOGETHER group change me? To tell you the truth I did not know that there was 30 Human Rights, but I had used my common sense to understand things like: do not discriminate, respecting privacy, no torture, slavery is wrong, the person is innocent unless proven guilty, etc. My family taught these values to me and respecting people is what I always try to do. After joining YOUTH TOGETHER, I realized that I have something to get focused on and educating people is what I do, and this is what I should be doing.   All my life maybe I was being over sensitive or imaginative about feeling discriminated against, being used by people or being disappointed by people. I have done well in every field and proud of myself in what I have accomplished. Now my being single is nothing to feel ashamed about. I realised too that marriage is only thing that will make me happy, I have to focus on myself first, then my family and I care for those who care for me in return. And I have plenty of that.

YOUTH TOGETHER has opened my eyes and mind. It has helped me to see my worth and raised my confidence in myself. I no longer have low self-esteem. My family, my work and YOUTH TOGETHER has helped me in a lot of ways. It brought me back to what and who I really am; a happy fit person and that is all I want. Helping others is my goal even if I do not get anything in return. I am just doing it to keep my soul fulfilled and keep myself busy. I am still trying to find myself and that is all right.

Thanks for letting me be a member of YOUTH TOGETHER and encouraging me to give ideas. I have been listened to and granted my rights in this group. Mishall Mirza

STAR Seminar Mothers Day - Faisalabad STAR Organisation’s Mothers Day event was attended by all denominations.

Women have a definite and important role to play in society.

Quaid-e-Azam said in his speech at Islamia College for Women March 1940:

“I have always maintained that no nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take its women along with the men. No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of the women."

Protest March - Faisalabad Faisalabad takes the matter of Human Rights very much to heart. YHRI has a lot of groups keen on ensuring Human Rights are not just words, but practised by all in society.
