1. Finding your niche.
When you’re thinking about starting a channel, find something that you are good
at and passionate about helping other people with. This can be an obstacle you
overcame in your life like a long term illness or condition that you had to learn all
about in order to overcome. It could be something as simple as being the best
single mom!
Do some research to make sure whatever it is has some degree of popularity. All
you have to do is go to the YouTube search bar and type in some words that
have to do with what you are thinking about. You can also use Google trends to
see what is trending – https://trends.google.com/trends/
Once you decide what you want to do based on your passion and you’ve picked
your niche, you will want to find a catchy but relevant name for your brand. You
can use your own name or a hybrid – like “Ron’s Green Life.” Just make sure you
first check that the name hasn’t already been taken. You can do a simple URL
search at https://instantdomainsearch.com/
2. Create your channel and make it optimized.
Ok, you know your niche and you know what message you want to get out into
the world! Now you want to make sure you channel is optimized for viewers.
Here are the top 5 things you need to do for your channel
1. Create a channel banner. There is a template you can use to make
sure you get the right size – here is the template
https://bit.ly/2CmoHjk
2. Create your avatar. This is done in your Google settings. Make the
picture engaging, preferably of you but a logo is ok too. You want a
close up since it’s so small. Also, a professional looking photo is
better – doesn’t mean you have to pay someone, just make sure
you learn a little about photography to get a good profile picture.
3. Create your social links. Make sure you put the links to your social
media so that when people come to your channel they can find you.
They need to be “https://” so they are clickable
4. Create a compelling About page. This is where everyone gets a
chance to get to know you. Be creative but keep it simple and
short. Tell everyone who you are, what your channel is going to do
for them, what your brand promise is and give a call to action.
5. Last but not least, make your channel a brand channel vs a personal
channel. I made the mistake of not doing this when I started. Trust
me you will regret it if you don’t!
3. Research your Keywords.
First of all you need to understand what keywords are. You can learn about
keywords here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyword_research

Ok, I’m not saying that you will earn everything you need to know about
YouTube from one form!! This is a quick guide to help point you in the right
direction and get you asking the right questions, so you at least know what to
look for! With that being said, there are literally hundreds of thousands of videos
made about how to research for keywords and understanding the whole idea of
keywords. No one really knows all there is to know about it so don’t be fooled
by empty promises like “I show you the secret that no one else knows to hack
the algorithm and rank all your videos” or my favorite – “Rank #1 for any
keyword.” These are false advertising and I would be very cautions listening to
much of what those people say!!
Now there is hope and there are key strategies to researching video topics and
keywords to help your chance of getting ranked. Here are 5 pro tips you need to
know to get started:
1. You need to use the right tools to help you with this process!! There are
many tools out there and some of them work really well but others
don’t! Again be cautious with any claims that seem too good to be true!
You will want to use Google Keyword Planner, Google Trends (that I
mentioned in point 1 and the YouTube search bar. One of the most
important tools you will want to use is called Tube Buddy – it’s totally
free to get started with and you only upgrade when you want to and
need to. Here’s the link for Tube Buddy ‐https://www.tubebuddy.com/dlh1
2. Once you have the right tools, you then want to spend time searching
in the YouTube search bar for topics that pop up as suggested searches.
You can see this when you start to type something and suggestions pop
up below what you are typing. When you find search ideas plug them
into Tube Buddy so you can get a scoring to test whether or not that
will be a keyword to rank for.
3. Be specific – laser down your focus and only use keywords that are
what I call hyper relevant to your topic.
4. Find keywords that have some search volume but not too much!! If it’s
too high, it will be harder to rank for. Try to rank for the less
competitive ones first then later when you grow your authority, you
can rank for more competitive ones.
5. Rinse and repeat and don’t cut corners on this!! Content is king but no
one is going to see your content if you can’t rank your videos!
6. These keywords will be use for title, tags and in your description. The
tags will go in the tags section when you upload your video – all you do
is separate each word or phrase with a comma as you type them in.

4. Create a Great Title.
Create a great title that is clear, clickable (attention getting) and interesting. Your goal is
to make it so irresistible that when anyone sees it they will click on it.
Use “headline” writing techniques. Again, do some research on how to write a great
headline. Here are some places to check out ideas –
http://digg.com/
http://popurls.com/
https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2017/05/17/how‐to‐write‐great‐headlines
Make sure you use the exact keywords from your title.
Remember don’t be spammy or use unrelated words that are considered click bait.
5. Optimize your description
Include as much quality content in the video description using as many of the keywords
as you possible can.
You have 5000 characters allowed so don’t be afraid to use it! To be frank, most people
won’t read what you write in the beginning so use it to let YouTube know what your
video is about.
Make sure you include relevant links to social media, affiliate links etc.
Again, use the https:// in front of the link so it’s clickable.
6. Create a clickable thumbnail.
One of the ways YouTube ranks your video is on how much people click on your
thumbnails to watch your video. This is a very important step because this is the first
impression that people get when they are scrolling through video.
Plan it out ahead of time – take a good picture with some expression that has to do with
the video.
Create simple and easy to read text that is short but catchy.
Make the thumbnail clear, over saturate the colors, have something shocking or
provocative (no click bait)! Use your face as much as possible – close up.
Use a free simple program like Canva to edit thumbnails.
7. Ranking Factors: Incoming Links
What is an incoming link? This is when your video link is shared in different websites like
blog posts, articles and other social media. When someone clicks on the video it takes
them to YouTube to view your video.
YouTube likes this and will reward your video by ranking it higher.
Make sure you post your video on all of your social media!
8. Ranking Factor: Time Watched
On thing to always remember – CONTENT IS KING!!
The number one thing YouTube measures your videos by is how long people are
watching our videos.
Yes, views drive watch time however, if you are getting a bunch of views by promoting
your video across other social media and your content sucks – then you will still have a
hard time ranking!!
You can monitor this in your analytics and use things like cards to help keep people’s
attention.

9. Ranking Factor: Views
As I mentioned the total number of views helps you immensely with your rank – this is
what will eventually determine your level of authority as well. The more views across all
your channel the more YouTube will reward you.
Other ways to drive views – send an email to your list if you have one. If not then send
it to all your friends and family. Everyone is peddling some sort of diet pill or energy
dink so why not your videos?
You can use Facebook ads and Adsense or other pay per click ads that link your video –
just be sure you learn about this or hire an expert.
Use cards to help link to other videos even ones from other channels. YouTube rewards
your videos for what’s called session time – the total time people are watching YouTube.
10. Ranking Factor: Likes and Dislikes
The total number of likes and dislikes help determine your search rank as well. Either
one shows YouTube that people are interacting with your video which shows interest.
In your video, be sure to give a CTA (Call to Action) to like your videos.
Include the CTA in your intro.
Tell people on your other social media sites to also like your video when they watch it!!
11. Ranking Factor: Video Embeds
We already talked about this in point number 7 with incoming links, but I can’t stress
enough the importance of this ranking factor!! This is the elephant in the room, the one
big domino that most people are missing!! Embeds are very similar to the share link as a
way to generate incoming links or what is referred to as backlinks.
Embed your video on your website, blog.
Do a press release and embed your video in it.
12. Ranking Factor: Video Shares
Here we are talking about getting your viewer to click the share button and share your
videos. This is another great ranking strategy if you can get that kind of engagement.
Again, in your videos you can ask people verbally to share your video.
Include a CTA in your intro or outro.
Let them know on social sites where you have posted your video to share it as well.
13. Ranking Factor: Playlists
Playlists are a great way to not only organize your channel but it can help your videos
rank as well.
Make playlists that group different videos in different ways. Even if it’s the same 3
videos, find ways to make several playlists for them – of course relative to the topic.
Optimize your playlists titles in the same way you do the video titles. Playlists rank as
well!
Keep the playlists updated!

14. Ranking Factor: Subscribers
Getting subscribers who have watched a video and then subscribed to your
channel is another ranking factor.
Again, use a verbal CTA in your video.
Put a CTA in your intro or outro.
Cross promote with other channels and collaborate so that you can drive
subscribers to each other’s channels.
15. Ranking Factor: Comments
Responses on your videos is another great ranking factor. YouTube loves it when
there is interaction on your channel.
Ask your viewers questions and offer your expertise so they know they can ask
you about your content. One good way to do this is with a question of the day.
Think about creative ways to get your audience to engage like playing a game or
a giveaway. *Seek legal advice when doing a giveaway.
BONUS TIP – comment regularly on other channels within your niche. Don’t be
spammy but offer your appreciation and/or input and look for ways to connect.
16. Recommended Videos
By showing up in related videos – this is where your video shows up to the right of the
video people are watching – you will increase your views greatly! This is another biggie
for YouTube!!
When finding keywords, include ones that show up in titles and tags on the videos that
are similar to yours.
Quote the person or brand and use their name in the title and keywords – this works
well product reviews.
You can even consider doing interviews with other influencers in your niche and
collaborating with them. Start small and work your way up.
17. Transcribing Your Video for Higher Rank
There’s been debate as to whether or not the algorithms can tell what you are saying in
video, but the general consensus is they can. But just in case, transcribing your videos is
still an effective strategy for ranking and makes it easier for indexing your video.
One of the best places to get transcription services is https://www.rev.com or you can
use the free version on YouTube – just know that it is not accurate at all and you will
need to go through it very carefully if you don’t want some crazy words showing up!!
Rev.com is extremely accurate.
Where appropriate, translate your video into other languages with the transcription
service.
18. Action Items for the First 24 to 48 Hours
Double check all of your spelling in the title, tags and description.
Check for accuracy on all of your links, especially any links that lead to a website – you
want to make sure the links work!

Once your video is public you want to get all the ranking factors listed above going
asap!! Whichever ones are not included in the video, such as sharing the video on social
media, get them done asap!
Respond to all comments!! No matter how small or how irrelevant – respond. Like and
heart every comment that comes in.
Like your video and pin the first comment as your own. Make it something inviting and
a call to action.
Email everyone you can with the new video.
19. Join Support Groups
One of the best things you can do is get support!! There are tons of groups out
there where creators are supporting each other. Find one to connect with and
join them!!
The Creators Accelerate group is a private group for those that are part of theChannel Accelerate Program (C.A.P.). You can learn more by going to this link:https://www.creatorsaccelerate.com/cap-program
If you just aren’t able to join the private group, Creators Accelerate also has a fan
page for creators that you can join for free:

20. Be Consistent and get your Hustle On!
NO ONE said it was going to be easy – well that’s not entirely true! There are
plenty of people out there who preach how easy it is and how many riches you
will make in the first 30 days, but if you believe them, I’m here to tell you that
simply isn’t the case!!
I remember thinking when I first started that all I had to do was pick up my
phone and film my life and then millions of people would watch!! Boy what a
shocker when like 5 people watched my video!! Fast forward to today and I still
hustle just as much if not more!!
So don’t get discouraged!! There is a strategy that if followed consistently will
work!! The key is to not skip steps and don’t guess!! Find the answers, ask
questions and become a student – as I like to say, become fanatical about
learning and growing.
Final Thoughts and Next Move Investing in yourself is the best thing you can do!! It’s amazing to me that people
will spend 50 to 60 hours a week at a job that they hate with a boss they can’t
stand working for, spending money on gas, car expenses, clothing and other
work expenses, but then when it comes time to start a business, they complain it
costs too much!! I understand we all have a budget – trust me I started with
hardly anything!! But you do need to have some budget and you do need to seek
some advice and get training. Do your homework and find the training that is
going to give you the most bang for your buck. But don’t sell yourself short!! I
spent well over $10,000 over the course of a year to learn and become a student
Creators Accelerate, Copyright 2018
of YouTube! This may sound like a lot of money or maybe not, but either way
that was my budget to spend for a year. I invested in multiple courses, live
events and hours upon hours of online training.
Creators Accelerate was started because in the first 90 days of starting my first
channel (Do Life Healthier) from zero I reached over 1000 subscribers and well
over 10,000 hours of watch time and yes, I did even make a few thousand
dollars. As a creator myself, it drove me crazy to see simple things that people
weren’t doing to get the traction they needed even with great videos!! So I
decided I would take my passion for helping people and turn it toward fellow
creators.
I’ve put together a system that stems from 20 years in the corporate world
creating and following systems, combined with the knowledge, mentorship and
training of top influencers in the industry to bring you the tools to launch and
grow your channel right!! I’ve made mistakes and I’ve learned somethings the
hard way, but rest assured, you can learn from my knowledge and my mistakes!!
Creators accelerate is not just another program or training course, it’s a way of
life! I believe that you have a message the world needs to hear and I believe that
Creators Accelerate is on of the best ways to accomplish that! You are literally
just one video away from doing whatever it is you want to do! Maybe you’re one
video away from starting, or one video away from 100 subscribers, whatever it is
it just takes one more! I’ll leave you with this parting creed that I repeat to
myself everyday. If this resonates with you then let’s connect and accelerate our
message together!!
