PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS
Improvements
Last Friday we had the path under the buss helter/
walkway widened with extra concreting so that the seats
are now on a stable surface and there is plenty of room
for parents and children to walk in and out of the school
via that pathway. The areas under the shade sails where
trees were removed earlier in the year, were also
concreted and made safer. It is my intention to paint
‘board games’ on these four areas to give extra choices
in activities to our students while they are at lunch or
recess breaks.
School Hats
While school hats must be worn by all students during
lunch and recess we understand that some hats may
have been lost or left at home if they’ve been taken
home for washing. With the recent infestation of nits
throughout the school we are taking part in a headlice
awareness program, “MOOV Defend you’re your Class
Schools Program. With this newsletter, every family will
be receiving a CD Rom to take home. From here on we
suggest that hats are taken home on Fridays for washing
(in hot water) but students are still to wear hats on the
oval during the week. Please remember to send the
school hats back with your children on Mondays.
If your child has lost their school hat we have more in
stock and the purchase price is $6 from the front office.
School Survey
Please don’t forget to complete the new surveys issued
with the newsletter. I sent out a survey during Term 1
this year and the resulting comments from parents were
taken on board with our staff working hard this year to
address all concerns and make positive changes for our
students. I am now asking parents to complete this
survey to assess our efforts as well as assist us in
forging our directions for the next School 3-Year Plan
(2015 to 2017). I ask as many families as possible to
complete this. All returned surveys will include you in the
running to win a $30 gift voucher. This survey is now
able to be accessed online.
Links ‘Wonder Years’ Talks.
Two members from the Links Neighbourhood Centre,
San Remo, volunteered their services and were at the
school on Tuesday to talk to our Year 6 students about
Body Image, Awareness and Puberty. These lessons
were well-received and important information was given
to our students. We thank them for these lessons and
hope to include them each year for our Year Six
students.

Farewell to Mrs Small
Mrs Small came to Mannering Park Public School,
as a classroom teacher in 1995. She has worked
at our school on classes from Kinder to Year 6 in
that time and in 2004 became Assistant Principal.
Mrs Small will be finishing in her role at the end
of this year and will be retiring next year.
We would like to celebrate her career at MPPS
and bid her farewell with an afternoon tea on
Tuesday, 9 December from 3:00pm in the school
hall.
All parents who know Mrs Small or have had
children taught by her, are asked to join us to
make this a memorable occasion for her.
Parents of past children who have attended our
school are also asked to attend - spread the
word.
If you are going to attend we ask that you fill out
the slip below and return by Tuesday, 2
December to indicate how many are coming so
we can cater accordingly.
Thank you.
DON’T FORGET!!!

K-1 Reptile Park Excursion
Friday was a very hot but fabulous day at the
Australian Reptile Park for our Kinder and Year 1
students. Many thanks to the parents and staff who
helped out on the day.
Our students were able to pat a Koala, lizards,
snakes, alligator and Tawny Frogmouth. Mrs Small
and some children were brave enough to cuddle
these friends.
Although the day was hot, the students behaviour
was fantastic. They made sure their excursion was
memorable by how much they experienced.
There were a few tired puppets on the way home!
Here are some snaps of our day
Year 6 Cake Stall
Every Wednesday until Week 8 (26 Nov), Year 6 will
be holding a cake stall to raise funds for their Year 6
Farewell.
Cakes will be available at lunch time outside the
canteen under the COLA area. All cakes, slices etc
will be available to purchase for 50c. Support our
Year 6 students to help make their farewell a
memorable event.
Citizenship Awards
Last night the Rotary Club of Northlakes Toukley
held their annual Citizenship Awards dinner.
Shanay Nielsen and Bradley Goodier were presented
with a medal and certificate acknowledging their
outstanding Citizenship within the school and wider
community. Shanay and Bradley displayed
exemplary manners on the night and represented
MPPS with pride.
Congratulations to both our award winners!
Work Samples
Over the last 2 weeks 1M has had the pleasure of
watching our chickens hatch and grow into fluffy
chicks. We have enjoyed learning about the life cycle
of a chicken and writing numerous text types about
them. Read some of our recounts further in the
newsletter
Thank you also to Tracey from Henny Penny
Hatchery who supplied us with our eggs.
Stage 3 Science Far
On Tuesday, November 18 our Stage 3 students
held a Science Fair to showcase their work from a
unit of work ‘Exciting Earth and Surreal Space’.
Students made models of natural disasters, wrote
informative texts and created stop motion videos,.
All students enjoyed being able to share their
quality work with their families, friends and other
students in the school. Have a look at some of the
photos below.
2014 Family Occupation and Education Index
(FOEI)
Last week a number of letters were sent to
particular parents to fill out a form regarding their
occupation. This is to assist us in gaining maximum
benefit from the annual funding from the State
Government.
To date we have only had a few returned. Could
you please ensure that you return these forms
promptly, so we can submit our data. Only the
highlighted sections need to be filled out.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
