PETERSON

Adrian Peterson becomes the secondrunning back in YFFL history to become afour-time top three pick. But is he No. 1?Arian Foster could easily receive topbilling, and if he does, picks No. 2-6 couldchange significantly (see No. 2). But withBen Tate in the mix this season in Houston,I believe Peterson is the safest choice forBrent, who has picked conservatively atthe No. 2 spot three times. Prediction: The12-year “QB 1-2” record will be broken!

FOSTER

In ’02, ’06 and ’10, we had the first non-running back selected at No. 5 overall. Notsince 2000 has a quarterback been chosenNo. 2. Is it too early for Michael Vick in2011? David Rimel, the Philly fan, may justpull the trigger, altering the outcome of thenext five picks. I wouldn’t be surprised ifhe tries to trade down. The exception isArian Foster – the one running back theYard Weeds really covet. If he gets cold feetabout Vick, he takes Adrian Peterson.

There are only five RBs that had back-to-back seasons with more than 200 fan-tasy points. With Peterson gone, thatleaves Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, MauriceJones-Drew and Steven Jackson. As ofpress time, Johnson was without a newcontract, and even if a deal does get done, there’s still the issue of missed time. Rice isin a contract year and is expected to get 20touches per game. He’s the logical choicefor Brent behind Foster and Peterson.

CHARLES

Who cares who Jon selects here. Alleyes are on his third round pick whereover the past two years he landed ArianFoster and Ray Rice – two players thatare already off the draft board. JamaalCharles is a healthy, stable back. Lastyear he averaged 6.4 yards per carry, andhe is expected to have more carries in2011. Jon will bypass on Chris Johnson, but if he is feeling spunky, look forLeSean McCoy at this pick.

The chairs... they are a flinging. There isone way where the Sin Machines can getRay Rice. Tommy may opt to swap pickswith the Yard Weeds or Dazed & Confusedfor their position in Round 2.. Taking a quar-terback No. 2 overall or a running backholdout are tough decisions, and a trademay ease their decisions. Otherwise, LeSeanMcCoy is the best option at No. 5. With thenew “dream team” in Philly, McCoy haspotential for a 2,000-total yard season.

MENDENHALL

In 12 seasons in the YFFL, theSupernatural Death Squad have taken anon-running back in the first round 41.7%of the time. If Michael Vick is off the board,he may be coaxed into selecting AaronRodgers. But I believe he is eyeing PeytonManning or Tony Romo in Round 2. But ifVick is selected, he may fear the QB herdmay be thin by Pick 27. Otherwise, I thinkhe likes Rashard Mendenhall or LeSeanMcCoy, if available. Vick could go here, too.

MCFADDEN

He’d rather have Rashard Mendenhall, but he’ll be happy with Darren McFadden.Mendenhall has been a member of theLaw Dogs for two straight seasons. Butwith Mendenhall off the board, Jeff willland a back with more than 1,500 totalyards and 10 TDs. The concerns, however, linger of his injury plagued 2008 and 2009seasons. This might spark Jeff to take ChrisJohnson – a holdout, yes, but a provenleague leading rusher.

RODGERS

Last season, Alex Hollis took PeytonManning and Andre Johnson at No. 16 and17, respectively. The Gargoyles had onlyfive losses in 2010. Not bad, right? At first, Ithought Alex may mix it up a bit by takingAndre Johnson here and wait until Round 2to take a top seven QB. However, if you area Packers fan, how can you pass on AaronRodgers? Another option, I think Alex maytake a chance on selecting Chris Johnson. Ifso, Alex goes RB again in Round 2.

After my first mock up, I had AaronRodgers and Vick going Nos. 8 and 9,respectively, I completely changed it, onlyto come back to my original prediction. Ifall goes well, PD ends up with his topchoice, Michael Vick. Otherwise, he’ll behappy with Rashard Mendenhall orDarren McFadden. With 3,018 passingyards and 21 passing TDs, and 676 rush-ing yards and 9 TDs in 2010, Vick is likehaving two players in one.

TURNER

Leading up to the week before the draft, the Dragons were scouting Aaron Rodgersand Roddy White at No. 10. So why is henow choosing Michael Turner? WhileRodgers is an elite player, there’s plenty ofdepth at QB. The addition of Julio Jonesopens the door for a more balanced offensein Atlanta. Frank believes the addition ofJones will hurt White, but lead to betterrunning schemes to allow Turner tobecome a top five back in 2011.

JOHNSON

We’ve reached a tipping point: Is it bet-ter to choose between three Tier 2 quarter-backs, a handful of Tier 4 running backs,or the top wide receiver? If Dan has afavorite QB or RB, he should select one. Ifnot, he’ll take Andre Johnson and let thenext 8 picks decide for him on what to doin Round 2. He may even want to take asecond receiver in the second round. Iwouldn’t be surprised if he choosesSteven Jackson or Drew Brees.

JONES-DREW

If you look at Maurice Jones-Drew’s his-tory, every bad year is followed by a goodone. Last year he rushed for 1,324 yards, and that was a bad year. What has declined, however, is his receiving yards. He also onlymustered 6 TDs in 2010. Still, he’s a work-horse and makes the best sense for theLongball Nutsackers. His second option isto take the first wide receiver, or the 49er fancould take Frank Gore. The catch is, hemight be able to get Gore in Round 2.

RIVERS

Last year, three quarterbacks went inthe first round. I think this trend continues. This could easily be Drew Brees or TomBrady, or maybe even a wide receiver, suchas Calvin Johnson. But I think Philip Riversis the man for the Juggernauts. Rivers wasone point of finishing second in fantasypoints among quarterbacks in 2010. Givenwhat they have in San Diego, he could beNo. 1 this year. He is the best option for thedefending YFFL champions.

I think there’s a 50-50 shot that ChrisJohnson goes here. Scott loves his runningbacks. But then I think of Vincent Jackson.Jackson only played five games in 2010due to a contract dispute. Now, last yearGoing Nowhere Fast waited until No. 155to select his one and only QB, Vince Young. He won’t do that again, but I don’t think hetries to fix it here at No. 14. He’ll be com-fortable with Matt Forte, who last seasonhad 1,577 total yards and nine TDs.

JACKSON

For five seasons, Jackson has been a top10 pick. If it wasn’t for some owners placinga greater priority on QBs, he may still bethere. And Daniel is one of those owners. He took Aaron Rogers No. 5 overall in 2010.So why not Philip Rivers, Drew Brees orTom Brady? Well, there’s only three ownersthat separate him from his next pick. He’lltake the chance and wait until Round 2. DidI mention Jackson plays in the NFC West? He’s the best option at No. 13.

WHITE

The Ground Force won the YFFL DraftLottery and chose the No. 16 pick. Since theexpansion to 16 teams in 2005, the GroundForce have selected No. 15 twice, and No. 16once. I believe his plans are to take RoddyWhite and Calvin Johnson with back-to-back picks. If one of them is gone, Kevin fillsin with Larry Fitzgerald or Drew Brees. Andtherefore, the first round ends without ChrisJohnson. When and where will he fall? Theexcitement continues.

It happens every year. Someone bringsup the first tight end, defense or kicker, and we tend to see a slew of selections atthat position. Take, for example, SirAllgood’s Dragons’ selection of the Jetsdefense at No. 108. Nine of the next 19picks were defenses. Even more amazing, the seventh defense selected, the Steelers, was the top fantasy producer in 2010 with350 fantasy points.

When it comes to tight ends, the firstone is typically selected in Round 3. TheYard Weeds were responsible for AntonioGates going so early in ’07 and ’08. Thefirst kicker, on the other hand, typicallygoes between rounds 9 and 12.

Page 8: Yuma Fantasy Football League Guide 2011

I’ll take ‘whatshisname’So, do you really think there’s little value in the

late rounds of a 16-team league? It’s not easy todig out a gem, but it does happen. Take, for exam-ple, these late round selections from 2010.

Of course, you can still score big in free agency.Michael Vick, Josh Freeman, Ryan Fitzpatrick,Brandon Lloyd, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and SteveJohnson were some of the notable free agents toscore more than 100 fantasy points in 2010.
