The Role of Water in CRC – An ExampleConsider a shower providing hot water at 12 litres/min (8-hot, 4-cold) within a student residence block of 288 en-suite rooms. Student showers for ten minutes per day for 25o days of the year. What are the savings in emissions and cost and what is the simple payback time of installing a flow reduction device (reduces total flow by a half to 6 litres/min) to the shower heads. The device costs £4.50 (flow regulator), £12.00 (shower head) and the cost of electricity (hot water is electrically heated) in this residence is 8p/kWh with a CRC emission factor of 0.541 kgCO2/kWh. Water costs are £1.87/m3
