Program Overview
YaleYoungGlobalScholars(YYGS)isahighlyselectiveacademicsummerprogramdesignedtoprovide talented high school students with interdisciplinary insight, global awareness, andcriticalskillsforbecomingthenextgenerationofleaders.YYGSNewHavenhostssixtwo-weeksessions for approximately 1,400 high school students from around the world, representingover100differentcountries,atYaleUniversityinNewHaven,CT.
Every year, we hire a Residential Life Team of two Assistant Directors of Residential Life(ADRLs), fourResidentialAdvisors(RAs),eight Interns,andthreeHealthStaff.TheteamsplitsintotwoProgramOfficesandaHealthOfficetocarefor,mentor,andsuperviseparticipantsinall aspects of residential life. YYGS and Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs are looking forResidential Life Teammembers who are interested in mentoring high school students fromdiverse backgrounds and willing to work collaboratively to create a successful, safe, andmemorableprogram.
2018 Sessions
Each two-week session runs concurrently with one other session, as shown below. YYGSsessions run in PiersonCollege andDavenport College -- two adjacent residential colleges atYaleUniversity.

The ADRL is responsible for leading a Program Office in an effort to maintain a safe andwelcomingenvironmentforstudents,ensurethesafetyandsecurityofYYGSparticipants,andfacilitateresidentialactivitiesandprogramoperationsintheirrespectivecollege.TheADRLforeach session is responsible for maintaining a constant presence in their residential collegethroughouttheprogram inorder toanticipateandrespondtostudents’non-academicneedsandaddresstheminatimelymanner.ADRLsworkregularshiftsintheProgramOfficeandtakepart in a rotationof overnight on-call shiftswith theotherADRL andDRL.ADRLsmust haveexperience in leadership with the teenage population in a residential setting, and hold anundergraduatedegree.

Interns help facilitate residential and academic elements of the YYGS sessions and arespecificallyresponsibleforactivitiesdesignatedbytheirspecializedroles.TheInternpositionsareonlyopentoYYGSalumniwhowillbefirstyearcollegestudentsinfall2018.PreferencewillbegiventoincomingYalefreshmen.EachProgramOfficehasfouruniqueInternroles:

HealthStaff– June12–August9,2018
HealthStaffoverseeallaspectsassociatedwiththehealthandwellbeingofparticipantsandstaffmembersduringtheYYGSsessions.HealthStaffareexpectedtobeeitheron-shiftintheYYGS Health Office or on-call in case of medical emergencies through the duration of theprogram.ArotationofHealthStaff isestablishedbytheDirectorofResidentialLifetoensureadequate coverage. Health Staff must hold or be in pursuit of a medical or health relateddegree.

Residential Life Highlights
YYGSisanincrediblyintensetwo-weekexperienceforbothparticipantsandstaff,andrequiresafull-timecommitment.ResidentialLifeTeammembersareexpectedtotakeonawidearrayof responsibilities tohelp facilitate theprogram.We strive to create an inclusive communitybasedoncollaborationandteamwork.
All staff members are the face of YYGS and as such are held to the highest standards ofresponsibilityandintegrity.MembersoftheYYGSResidentialLifeTeamareexpectedtobeanactivepresenceintheresidentialcollegeandshouldreacttoanyemergentsituationstoensurestudentcomfortandsecurity.Giventhenatureofourprogram,otherresponsibilitiesmayariseperiodicallyandwillbedelegatedasnecessary.
Members of the Residential Life Team take a leadership role in the planning andimplementationofthesehighlightsofYYGSresidentiallife:
• ParticipantCheckIn&CheckOut–ParticipantscomefromfarandwidetoparticipateinYYGS.EverylastdetailofthecheckinandcheckoutprocessissignificantandistheresponsibilityoftheResidentialLifeTeam.CheckInresponsibilitiesincludedistributingtabletandphonerentals,aswellasproxcards,nametags,androomkeys,guidingparticipantstotheirrooms,andcoordinatingcampustours.CheckOutresponsibilitiesincludetablet,phone,proxcard,androomkeycollectionaswellasroominspectionsandassistingparticipantsingettingtothelocationoftheirdeparturetransportation.
• ProgramOffice–ThisofficeishometoallmembersoftheResidentialLifeTeamwhoparticipateinarotationofshiftstoensuretheofficeismannedadequately.TheProgramOfficeincludesasnackshopwithavarietyoftreatsforsale,anironavailabletoborrow,laundrypodsanddryersheets,spareroomkeys,recreationalsupplies,andmuchmore!
• HealthOffice–It’suptoourHealthStafftoensuremedicalneedsaremetinthesharedHealthOffice.ParticipantsandStaffarewelcometovisittheofficewheninneed.
• SpeakerSeries-SimilartoTEDtalks,participantsauditiontogiveaseven-minutetalkinfrontoftheirYYGSclassmatesonatopicthey’repassionateaboutandwanttoshare.TheResidentialLifeTeaminvolvesstafftoselectspeakers,helpsparticipantsprepare,andorganizestheeventforall450+participantsacrossconcurrentsessions.
• TalentShow-Aprogramfavorite!Aprogramtradition!TheResidentialLifeTeamorganizesaparticipant/stafftalentshowonthelastnightofeachtwo-weeksession.
• GameShowNight-Ononenighteachsession,theResidentialLifeTeamrunsagameshowfortheparticipants.Responsibilitiesincludesupervisionandsuccessfulimplementation.

• FreeTime–ThisincludesSundaymornings,eveningafter9pm,andafewoccasionalafternoons.TheResidentialLifeTeamisresponsibleforprovidingsupervisionandofferingoptionalactivitiesforstudentstoenjoy.Theseactivitiesincludetours,sports,recreationalactivities,andreligiousobservances.
• EndofSessionParties–Aseachsessioncomestoanend,theparticipantsofDavenportandPiersonCollegescometogetherforafarewellparty.Thepartymayincludeoneormoreofthefollowing:dance,tastysnack,outdoor/indoorgames,karaoke,andaphotobooth.TheResidentialLifeTeamorganizesandimplementsallelementsofthepartywiththehelpofLeadershipandInstructionalStaffforsupervision.
Compensation and Additional Benefits
AllResidentialLifeTeammembersreceiveanattractivesalaryforthelengthoftheircontract.Compensationalsoincludeson-campusmealsinaYaledininghallandhousinginaresidentialcollege.Laundryfacilitiesareavailablewithintheresidentialcollegeandarethestaffmember’sresponsibility.LaundrydetergentanddryersheetsareavailablefreeofchargeintheProgramOffice.
Access to Yale’s PayneWhitney Gymnasium is available to Yale students at no cost and toothers,includingstaffandparticipantsofYYGS,for$25perweek.Thereisnominimumnumberofweeks.
In addition, staff members join ever-growing networks of YYGS and Julian Krinsky Camps &Programsalumni.
