Kia ora whanau, I hope you are all keeping well in the midst of the flu and stink weather season. We have had a number of students who have been sick this term as there are some nasty bugs going around. If your child/ren are displaying flu like symptoms (Head ache, high temperature, persistent cough and generally unwell) please keep them home and let them get better properly. We want our students at school fit and healthy and understand that at times they may need to be at home when they are really sick, just let us know they will be absent as we require all non-attendance to be explained. Student Led Conferences were run this week and it was great to catch up and chat with so many whanau. Please ensure that you have made a time to discuss with your child’s teacher their learning progress so far this year, for our Year 8 students this report is generally the one that secondary schools request upon enrolment and is only given out during a conference with our teachers. If you were unavailable to attend one of our conference evenings this week it is vital that you make an appointment time to meet with us regarding your child’s learning and progress. We are in need of some whanau support to help us run our breakfast club in the mornings. If you have some free time between 7.50am and 8.30am during the week we would really appreciate your help to keep our breakfast club up and running. Please let us know if you have some time available and are willing to help our tamariki out. We would Like to Welcome Ms Leah White to our Kelston Intermediate teaching whānau. She is our new Visual Arts Teachers and brings many talents and passions to our team of teachers. Nga mihi nui kia koe Ms White and welcome to the Kelston Intermediate family and community.
Have a Great Week!!

• Dear Parents or Caregivers, During consultation about health education, teachers, parents, and caregivers discussed the school’s sexuality education programme, “Positive Puberty”. Over the next 10 weeks, our class will be working on this unit. The learning outcomes for this unit will enable the students to work towards the achievement objectives of Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum. This unit of work will provide students with the knowledge, understandings, and skills to develop positive attitudes towards the changes that they will experience during puberty. Through the key concepts of this unit, students will learn about: • the physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual growth and development that occur and the new needs that arise during puberty; • strategies to manage the changes they will experience; • factors that influence their choices during puberty (including their families, their peers, the media, and religious and cultural beliefs); • their own feelings and their rights and responsibilities; • how to identify instances of discrimination and take positive action in such cases. If you wish your son or daughter to be withdrawn from the class while a specific activity is being taught, please make this known through email or have a conversation with the classroom teacher.
• Please sign up to our app – (parentteachercalendar – Kelston Intermediate), website(www.kelstonint.school.nz) and facebook page (Kelston Intermediate) to keep up to date for school events and notices.
