Srinagar, July 13 (KNS): National Conference ob- served the 83rd Martyrs' Day across the State on Sunday and orga- nized functions at var- ious places to pay rich tributes to the Martyrs of 13th July. National Conference Working President and JK Chief Minister Omar Abdul- lah visited the Martyrs' Graveyard at Naqsh- band Sahib (RA) Shrine at Khwaja Bazaar, Sri- nagar on the 83rd Mar- tyrs' Day and paid rich tributes to the valiant heroes of the nation who laid down their lives for the dignity and liberty of their people, NC Spokes- man said. On reaching the 'Ma- zar-e-Shohada', NC Working President Omar Abdullah paid obeisance at the Naqash- band Sahab (RA) Shrine and prayed for peace and prosperity in the State. The NC Working President offered Fateha at the shrine before pro- ceeding to the annexure that hosts the graves of the martyrs who laid down their lives fighting against autocracy and slavery in 1931. Omar Abdullah offered floral tributes at the Martyrs' Graveyard and a State salute was offered to pay homage to the martyrs. Protests took place in Bandipora during which some five persons have been injured. Youth of the area started hurling stones on the forces’ deployment, raising pro-freedom slogans. Five bikers were booked for rash driving besides for violation of other provisions of Motor Vehicle Act. These bikers were performing stunts on the road thereby endangering life and property of other people using the road. All the bikes that were seized were play- ing without number plates. The bikes have been modified for stunt making. The mudguards of the rear wheel have been removed so that it doesn’t touch the road while performing stunts. During the current year Police Station Sadder has taken cognizance of 102 vi- olations of Motor Vehicle Act in their area where large number of Tuition cen- tres are located. Out of 102 cases around 90 cases involve motorcycles. In most of the cases parents of the bikers found violating the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act were called to the Police Station and apprised about the riding behaviour of their wards. Srinagar police has advised the par- ents of the students riding motor cycles in general to maintain a vigil on their wards so that they could be saved from fatal accidents. The parents should ad- vise their wards to ride motorcycles as per norms and see if they have modified the bike in any manner or removed a part of their bike. A police official told GNS that victim identified as Sajad Ahmad Malik (20) son of Ghulam Moham- mad of Adhal village of Kokernag had gone to the Bringi Nallah for fishing. However, when Sajad threw the fishing line, he lost bal- ance and fell into the nallah and drowned. Soon after the news about the drowning of youth spread in the area, locals and police rushed to the area and launched joint oper- ation in retrieving the body, the official said. He said that late in the evening, the police with the assistance of locals retrieved the body from the Nallah. “After conducted all legal formalities, the body was handed over to his relatives for last rites”. Gaza, July 13: Israel for the first time on Sunday launched a ground operation inside northern Gaza to silence Hamas rocket fire and thousands of Palestinians fled their homes after the Israeli military threat-ened to widen its assault that has killed nearly 170 people in six days. Ignoring global calls for a ceasefire, Israeli troops - thought to be naval com-mandos - briefly entered Gaza early Sunday and raided a missile launch-ing site. Daily train to Katra from today

New Delhi, July 13: Railways will introduce from today a daily train service from here to Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.The AC superfast 'Shri Shakti Ex-press' will depart from New Delhi station at 5:30 PM daily and arrive at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station at 5:10 AM the next day.Similarly, in the return direction, it will depart from there at 10:55 PM daily and reach here at 10:45 AM the next day, a Northern Rail-way statement said. Comprising one first AC, five AC two-tier and nine AC three-tier coaches, the train will have stoppages at Am-bala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jalandhar Cantt, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu Tawi and Udhampur stations en-route in both directions.
