Pattan, July 18, : Police Thursday booked trio under section 307 (attempt to murder) of RPC in North Kashmir’s Palhalan area of Baramulla dis-trict. Police sources told CNS that scores of youth mostly students have been found indulging in stone-pelting in Palhalan area. Sources added that police is mulling to launch a crackdown on stone-pelters in coming days. “We have so far arrested three youth and booked them under section 307, 148, 149, 336, 427 of RPC. These youth not only assaulted some policemen but also caused injuries to four cops,” a police of-ficial told CNS and identified the trio as Wasim Hasan Gojri (Pattan), Yasin Rehman (Malapora) and Tawseef Ahmed Malla of Palhalan. Meanwhile, family members of the detained youth told CNS that they are innocent and police picked them while they were playing volley ball. The family members of the trio staged a protest outside police station Pattan and demanded their immediate release. Police advised them to ap-proach court to seek bail for them. (CNS)

BARAMULLA , JULY 18: As many as 97 various schemes/works were taken up by the Health department in district Baramulla during the last

financial year at the estimated cost of Rs. 209 crore, out of which Rs.112 crore including Rs. 583 lakhs under District Plan were expended during the period.

This was stated at a meeting of officers of Health Department under the chairmanship of Dis-trict Development Commissioner,

Baramulla, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today.

The meeting was informed that 15 works/schemes have been completed while as 45 schemes to

be completed by the end of this fi-nancial year.

Giving details, the Chief Medical Officer said that 3 Sub-Centre buildings constructed under NRHM were completed during the year 2013-14. He said that depart-ment have provided Medical Mo-bile Unit vehicle equipped with X-Ray, Dental, Lab and Mini Theatre to the far-flung areas where no regular health facility is available and also provides free medicines to the people.

Regarding emergency treatment, the Chief Medical Offi-cer said that ambulance facility is also available in the District Hos-pital to the needy person who can call on No. 102 for the said service. The service provided free of cost to pregnant women and children upto 14 years.

Council Panel reviews working of R&B

Committee-III of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today reviewed the functioning of R&B department here under the Chairmanship of MLC, Ghulam Nabi Monga.

Legislators, Mr Bashir Ahmed Magray and Dr Shahnaz Ganai attended the meeting and gave their valuable sug-gestions for completion of ongoing projects of R&B de-partment and its allied sectors.

Threadbare discussion was held on the status of works done on Mughal Road besides the functioning of R&B de-partment.While discussing the issues related to pend-ing works on roads and bridges, the Committee stressed upon the concerned officers to complete the same in a time bound manner so that the benefit reaches people in time.The Committee directed the officers of JKPCC, ERA, NABARD and other agencies to accelerate the pace of work on Chandanwari, Jula, Gingal bridges in Uri and other major roads and projects in Kashmir Division.

Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Tanvir Jehan briefed the Committee about the pace of ongoing projects in Kashmir Division besides physical and financial achieve-ments of the department.

WASHINGTON: As Russia and Ukraine trade blame over the ap-parent shooting down of a Ma-laysian airliner, they appear to agree on one thing: the type of Soviet-era missile that brought it down.

But if an SA-11 Buk mis-sile, known as “Gadfly” in Nato, struck the aircraft and killed all 298 on board, that won’t solve the mystery of who did it: Russia, Ukraine and Russian-speaking rebels have all claimed the mis-sile in their arsenals.

Circumstantial evidence points increasingly to the sepa-ratists, western officials and ana-lysts say, pointing to rebel claims of shooting at Ukrainian military aircraft at approximately the same time.

The rebels were believed to have used a similar system to shoot down a Ukrainian Antonov AN-26 aircraft on Monday.

Whether the 1970s-era radar-guided missiles would have been supplied by Russia or captured from Ukrainian forces is uncer-tain.

“Even if we know the weapon type, it is impossible now to say

where it came from,” said Samuel Charap, a former US state depart-ment official and now a fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Washington.

On June 29, Russian newswire ITAR-TASS quoted separatists in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, not far from where the plane went down, as saying they had seized control of a missile defense army unit equipped with the Buk sys-tem.

becomes much more likely when you give a lot of undertrained and unreliable people sophisti-cated weaponry,” he said.

Nick de Larrinaga, an analyst at IHS Jane’s Defence, said the shoulder-fired missiles typically used by separatist rebels in east-ern Ukraine would not be able to hit a passenger aircraft flying at normal cruising altitude. Such weapons have shot down several Ukrainian helicopters and air-craft.

He said a commercial aircraft would, however, have been in range of surface-to-air missile systems such as the Buk or al-ternatively the Russian-made S-300, also called the “SA-10 Grumble.”

“Both Russia and Ukraine have such SAM (surface-to-air missile) systems in their invento-ries,” he said.

The Buk — which means beech tree in Russian — includes four missiles on a turntable mounted on a tracked vehicle. A separate tracked vehicle carries early warning and acquisition

This was stated by the Minister while addressing a large gathering at Channi Himmat Sector-1 after inspecting 3287 meter long R1, R2 and R3 deep drain at Channi Himmat Housing Colony, here today.Mr. Bhalla asked the Economic Re-construction Agency (ERA) to use qual-ity material on the development works which are under progress on war-footing in the locality.The Minister further in-formed that Government has prepared a detailed project report of Rs. 65 crore for channelization and modernization of Barsati nallahs of Sunjwan, Bathindi and Gangyal, adding that all the codal

formalities under the project has been completed for early start of the project.

Listing the measures taken by the Minister for providing improved basic amenities to the people of Channi Him-mat, Mr. Bhalla said Government has spent Rs. 90 lakh under Jammu and Kash-mir Housing Board funding for upgrada-tion including mecademisation of internal link roads of Sector-5, 6, and 7.

Mr. Bhalla said development of Hous-ing Colonies in urban as well as in rural areas of the State was receiving main focus of the Government. He said the colonies would be developed on modern lines with all basic amenities like safe drinking wa-ter, road connectivity, electricity, parking, play field, super bazaar and recreational parks.The Minister informed that JKHB has approved Rs. 3.50 crore for creation of health club, swimming pool and tug shop besides a recreation centre facilities on the available land near the Green Belt Park in Channi Himmat Sector-1.

Jora, Spalbar lay foundation of Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Leh

LEH, JULY 18-The Minister for Urban Development & Local Bod-ies Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora along with CEC, LAHDC, Leh, Mr. Rigzin Spalbar laid the foundation stone of Multipurpose Indoor Stadium here today, the project will be built under PYKKA/USIS scheme of Union Ministry of Youth Af-fairs & Sports.

The stadium having seat-ing capacity of 1000 spectators is a project to come up at an es-timated cost of Rs. 797.68 lakhs, out of which Rs. 600 lakhs have been sanctioned by the Gov-ernment of India and balance expenditure will be borne by LAHDC, Leh. The multipurpose stadium on its completion will have one basket ball, volleyball and a handball court each, three badminton courts, eight table tennis courts with two practice rooms, one dispensary, six player dorms, two change rooms, one gymnasium, one exercise room,

one equipment store and two public conveniences.

Addressing the gather-ing of councilors, officers and students Mr. Jora expressed great happiness over the commence-ment of such a vital project, in addition to the construction of an open stadium at Spituk near

Airport the work on which start-ed last year at a cost of Rs. 20.35 crores. He said that with the completion of these national lev-el stadiums the youth of the re-gion will have an opportunity to excel in sports at various levels.

Terming sports as an important part of education, Mr.

Jora stressed upon the students to take sports seriously to build their career in, pointing to the fact that athletes of mountain-ous regions have a biological advantage when performing in the plains. Appreciating the achievements of present council under the dynamic leadership of

CEC Mr. Rigzin Spalbar, the Min-ister said that at present an un-precedented number of projects worth Rs. 1500 crores are under execution in Leh and termed this period as a golden era of devel-opment in Leh district.

Fireman dies as Navy, CG choppers evacuate 21 in Mumbai blaze

A fireman died and nine of his colleagues were in-jured as Navy and Coast Guard helicopters evacuat-ed a group of firefighters trapped atop a commercial building aflame in a Mumbai suburb on Friday, offi-cials said. A major blaze broke out on 21st floor of Lotus Busi-ness Park, an upscale commercial building at And-heri, a little before noon and 21 firemen got strand-ed on the rooftop though all civilians were promptly evacuated. “21 firemen were brought to our hospital, one of them was brought dead. Some of them are in-jured but none is serious,” Medical Superintendent of Cooper Hospital Dr Sitaram Gawde told the news agency. An official at the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai’s disaster management cell told the news agency that only nine of those rushed to the hos-pital had received injuries. Tawde said it was not yet known if the deceased fire-man died of asphyxiation or due to injuries. The firemen rushed to Cooper Hospital were those who had got trapped on the terrace of the building and were evacuated with the help of Navy and Coast Guard helicopters. Fighting inclement weather, the Navy and Coast Guard personnel on two helicopters waged a grim battle to evacuate those trapped on the terrace. Dramatic videos showed stranded firefighters cling-ing precariously to railings and scaffoldings as giant flames leapt menacingly towards them. As timely showers caused the fire to abate, they man-aged to return to terrace after some time.

After hovering in the sky and finding no place to land, Navy and Coast Guard personnel lowered winches and firemen were hauled up the aircraft. Although all 21 trapped on the rooftop were evacuat-

ed, one lost his life, apparently due to asphyxiation. Cooper Hospital Superintendent, however, said the exact cause of death would be known only after post mortem.

As the assembly elec-tions are nearing ,the political activities in state has picked up and dozens of oppor-

tunists, turn-coats, defectors are changing parties every day.The parties the join are proudly announce their entry and claim that hundreds of their support-ers have also joined the party. One fails to understand the log-ic behind such claims as every body knows that these turn-coats have no locus-standi and they are not even supported by their near and dear ones. However at their entry they are profous-ly garlanded and their services highlighted for media consump-tion but after some days they are left high and dry and even are not welcomed in the party office where people taunt them and fun of them. Besides this activ-ity , the politicians are speaking on a very high pitch these days and blaming their opponents for all sorts of things. They decorate each other with frillings like cor-rupt, dishonest, black-mailers, exploiters, opportunists, and even killers. Even the parties in coalition do not spare each oth-er in their offensive and use abu-sive slang language besides call-ing names of each other. After seeing all this, one comes to the conclusion that politics is not suited for civilized, polite, cul-tured and honest people. When one recalls the spate of abus-es hurled by the then Speak-er Mohd. Akbar Lone on PDP leader Molvi Iftikhar Ansari, it looks unbelievable as he used every abuse in his dictionary in the august house where parlia-mentary ethics guide every in-dividual. Perhaps the standards in every field of life have gone down so drastically that one can not believe his eyes and ears while listening the language of the politicians and watching their behavior. What can be ex-pected of a common man if poli-ticians supposed to be role mod-el for others behaves in such a disgusting manner. In fact, the youngster who watch this all do not customize exemplary behav-ior of these politicians and by doing this we are just passing our filthy present to the future of our younger generations. At least these politicians should be-have like normal human beings and set example of parliamenta-ry behavior.
