Introduction• In linguistic term zakah is a basic form of verb which means

to grow and to increase.

• When it is said about a person, it means to improve, to become better.

• In Arabic means cleanliness, growth, blessing and praise.

• In Shari’ah zakah refer to the set portion of wealth that Allah has ordered to be distributed among certain deserving categories.

• Zakat concerning social and financial matters.

The Differences between Zakah al-Fitr and Zakat al-mal (wealth)

Zakah Fitrah• Must be paid by poor and rich

Muslims and paid by the head of the household.

• Paid during Ramadhan and don’t have fixed nisab .

• Paid at Ramadhan and before `Eid Al-Fitr prayer.

• Two qadahs (an old measure) of rice or wheat or other usual food

Zakah On Wealth• Paid by the rich and well-to-do

Muslims.

• Paid when the savings reach the prescribed value (nisab).

• Paid at any time of the year as long as the nisab remains.

• 2.5 percent of one’s wealth.
