Zantel Donates water Borehole to Watoto Wetu Tanzania Orphanage Centre

Dar es Salaam, 19 June, 2015: Zantel Tanzania has today donated a borehole to Watoto Wetu Tanzania Orphanage Centre, aimed to solve water problem at the center and ensuring access to safe and clean water to almost 70 children.

The issue of water is one of the major problems in Dares Salaam and Tanzania at large therefore this support to the center is very important to the livelihood of the children.The borehole will provide ready treated water for direct consumption that will be very useful to children, as it will prevent them from communicable diseases that are likely to be transmitted through untreated and contaminated water.Speaking at the handover event, Zantel Chief Executive Officer, Pratap Ghose, said Zantel not only continues to strive to provide quality and affordable services to its customers but also endeavors to support the social and economic development of communities in which it operates.At Zantel, we are keen about impacting the lives of people because we realize that water is a necessity, so we are proud to lend support that goes a long way to touch the lives of children said Pratap.In his address, guest of honor for the event, Kinondoni District Commissioner, Paul Makonda, commended Zantel for donating the borehole to the center saying the initiative was a laudable gesture.

I commend the management of Zantel for building this borehole for the center because it shows exemplary corporate citizen that cares about the wellbeing of the communities and I call upon other companies to engage in sustainable corporate social responsibility said Makonda.Watoto Wetu Tanzania Orphanage Centre was established in 2001, with the major aim of ensuring children without guardians or parents are given proper care and education.

Thanking Zantel for the donation, Evance Tegete who is the Head of the center said initially the center had a huge problem of water.Initially we used to depend water from DAWASCO which was not reliable but now, thanks to Zantel, we have been able to solve one of our most pressing problem said Tegete.
