Yasmeen Lari S.I, H.I 1 of 5 Zero Carbon Emergency Isolation & Field Ward Facilities : COVID-19 Webinar Lecture Series Institute of Architects Pakistan - Rawalpindi Islamabad Chapter has launched a special virtual lecture series in collaboration with "International Network for Traditional Architecture & Urbanism" (INTBAU) Pakistan Chapter and the Heritage Foundation Pakistan with the renowned, highly decorated and award-winning Architect Yasmeen Lari on "Architecture , Disaster Management and the post COVID-19 world." Ar. Yasmeen Lari will also be joined by Ar. Murad Jamil at later stage of the lecture series. Both respected architects have set up ZeroCarbon Architects Disaster Management Network (ZeroCarbon ADMAN) as Co-Founders and Co-Coordinators. The Zero Carbon ADMAN is a civil society not-for-profit organisation for the design and delivery of elements for preparedness, prevention and management of disasters using zero/low carbon sustainable methodologies. This event also gives an opportunity to register yourself as a volunteer for the ZeroCarbon ADMAN. Ar. Yasmeen Lari Ar. Yasmeen Lari is an award winning and highly decorated pioneer architect of Pakistan who was recently awarded with the prestigious Jane Drew Award 2020. She is best known for her involvement in the intersection of Architecture & Social Justice. Ar. Lari was elected President of Institute of Architects Pakistan in 1978 and was the first chairperson of Pakistan Council of Architects & Town Planners in 1983. After retiring in 2000 from practice, she devoted herself to conservation and humanitarian assistance as chief executive of Heritage FOUNDATION PAKISTAN. In 2006, Lari was awarded the Sitar-e- Imtiaz and in 2014 Hilal-e-Imtiaz, amongst the highest civil awards by the government of Pakistan in recognition of her services to the profession and to heritage conservation of historical sites in Pakistan.

Ar. Murad Jamil

Ar. Murad Jamil received his bachelor of

Architecture from Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi and later attained his Masters in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991. Murad Jamil served as the Chairman Board of Architecture Education, Institute of Architects Pakistan from 2012 to 2015 and with the IAP team ran the Faculty Training Programmes in Pakistan. In addition, he organized the International Conference on Architectural Education in December 2014. In addition to his private practice, he serves on the boards of studies of two architecture schools in Pakistan and is working with INTBAU as the Honorary Secretary of its Pakistan Chapter. He is also the co-founder of ADMAN.

The webinar lecture series is divided into 7 sessions out of which first 2 took place on 23rd April’2020 & 2nd May ‘ 2020. The lectures are titled as below,

Lecture 1: Introduction – Prima Donna or Barefoot: Architecture and COVID-19 Lecture 2: Barefoot Social Architecture (BASA) Lecture 3: BASA Principle 1 – Maximizing the potential of ‘barefoot ecosystem’ in Pakistan Lecture 4: BASA Principle 2 – Zero carbon humanistic architecture, fostering pride, dignity and well being Lecture 5: BASA Principle 3 – Delivery of unmet needs by Barefoot Incubator for Social Good and Environmental Sustainability

Lecture 6: BASA Principle 4 – Adoption of non-engineered structures for shrinking the ecological footprint. Lecture 7: Architecture and Urbanism in Post-COVID-19 World

The Lecture 2, consisted of 3 guest panelist for a wider discussion on the topic

among the attendees. The gust panelist consisted of, Ar. Kalim Siddiqui Chairman Pakistan Council of Architects & Town Planners (PCATP) President Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) Ar. Arif Changezi President Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) Ar. Harriet Wennberg Executive Director Internation Network for Tradition Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) The lecture series is organized and moderated by the Institute of Architects –

Rawalpindi Islamabad Chapter with the lead of its dynamic Chairperson Ar. Fauzia Asad Khan who is also serving as the Honorary Secretary for “Architecture Disaster Management Network” ADMAN.

The sessions are hosted by Ar. Salman Javaid Malik – Honorary Secretary IAP-RIC

& Joint Secretary ADMAN and sessions assisted by Ar. Umer Iqbal – Honorary Treasurer IAP-RIC & Honorary Treasurer ADMAN. The graphics and documentation for the sessions are convened by Ar. Hamza Zafar – Executive Member IAP-RIC.
