• 24 000 ha @ X? T per haCurrent above-ground carbon stocks (living plus litter) varied with management history, averaging 273 ± 30 tC ha−1 (mean ± SE). Model-predicted CCC was 445 ± 13 tC ha−1, yielding a carbon sequestration potential of 172 ± 31 tC ha−1. Model simulations predicted the recovery of an average site to take 53 years to reach 75% carrying capacity, and 152 years to reach 90% carrying capacity. • Local Landscape Collaboration – Groups of adjoining landholders pool land and water resources to make the best use of grazing, regenerative farming and agro-forestry operations. (Shire BCA = NPV $4m after 10 years)

EMISSIONS FROM WASTE 2014/15(Emma Menzies)

• Solid waste - 2,798,054 m3 of landfill gas flared from the Noosa landfill in the year 2014/15 and the composition of this gas was 41.7% methane

• Energy content and emission factors of 0.0377 GJ/m3 and 4.83 kg CO2e/GJ were applied to obtain a carbon emission figure of 210.99 tonnes CO2e.

• Liquid Waste - Data from Unity Water - 681 tonnes CO2e and is the emission as a result of anaerobic treatment (primarily methane) and excludes emissions resulting from electricity consumption

Community Jury RecommendationsMinimise organic waste going to landfill in Noosa targeting 100% diversion of organic waste by 2030

Expand Noosa’s existing three bin system in a staged manner to introduce mandatory weekly organics collection for residential areas, with mandatory green waste collectionin2015/16

Minimise cost to ratepayers with cost increases not to exceed $50 per ratepayer for green waste collection and an additional $70 per rate payer for full organic waste collection

• Construct a composting facility at Eumundi Road Landfill Site(or another suitable location).

• Design and implement a grassroots,long--‐term education and awareness campaign.

• Reward excellent waste management to continue positive behavioural change

• Ban non- biodegradable plastic bags by 2017.

• Direct large producers to target 100% diversion of organic waste from landfill by 2030.

Noosa Community Biosphere Association

• Initiatives include:

- Ban the plastic bag: 1300 signatures + 14 letters of support- Boomoorang Bags- C4C Cash for containers

• in conjunction with Boomoorang alliance, Surfrider, Sunshine Coast Environmental Council.

• The NCBA sent out a survey to residents & businesses to gain feedback on Noosa Council Waste reduction and recycling plan.
