• What do you expect the film to be like?
• Why?

• Identify why it is experimental.• Are there any conventional elements?• Use film key words- look on the display board for
help if you need it.
• Grab a key word from the wall and write a sentence using it that discusses Zidane as an experimental film.
Experimental elements
• Filmed in real time.• Used 17 film cameras dotted around the
stadium.• Focuses on one footballer (Zidane) rather than
the action- we do not follow the ball.• Cross between football
coverage/documentary/work of art• 21st Century Portrait – what does this mean?
Audience/Exhibition
• Who do you think the audience would be?• Why?
• Where do you think this would be exhibited?• Why?
Douglas Gordon’s other work• Douglas Gordon is an artist who uses
film/video/photography as his medium.• Another notable and very interesting
project is Twenty Four Hour Psycho (Gordon, 1993, UK)
• He took Psycho (Hitchcock, US, 1960) and slowed it down so that it lasts 24 hours.
• Audiences see the film as a very slowly moving series of iconic images.
• They can arrive and leave when they like- they do not have to watch the whole thing!
