MADE IN NEPAL

It started with a group of women in Nepal. A lot of wool. And the idea to work onopportunities for all Making timeless, handmade products with a human touch.

Travelling back and forth from The Netherlands, Zilalila is developing products in a

close collaboration with Nepali women; these lovely ladies in the pictures. They aretrained to make Zilalila products, with the additional benets of being able to be

self-supportive.

One of the Zilalila production units has over 240 producers, benetting over 2500

family and local community members.

The producers receive a steady income, health care & insurance, and low interestloans. Their children get free primary education and higher secondary school is

sponsored for those unable to afford further education.

Buying Zilalila means you are supporting Nepali women and their families.

WOOL FACTS

Sheep wool has the capability to keep the body at an eventemperature because it does not trap heat.

Readily absorbs water and can also release it . Again it does not trap.

For sheep this prevents moisture from being held at the skin. It preventsthe clammy, cold feeling you may experience when wearing some

types of synthetic clothing and sweating.Because of this feature it also dries out slowly.

Naturally fre resistant meaning it does not readily burn. This feature iswhat makes wool attractive as an insulating material in homes.

Strands of wool are crimped (imagine your hair crimped with acrimping iron - wool does that naturally). Due to having crimp wool hasthe ability to stretch and then return to its natural length. This elasticity is

a very promising feature that we can not achieve with any othersynthetic material. It is what makes the ber strong and durable.

Felting is the nature of most animal fur that allows it to entangle andform mats of fabric. The bers (strands) can interlock with each other

due to ridges on the individual bers. Sheep wool is highly regarded for

its ability to felt and form fabrics that are near impossible to tear.

Felting is the wool characteristic that causes your wool item to shrink

each time you wash it in warm or hot soapy water and subject it to torough treatment (ie the washing machine).

Sheep wool is very strong and durable partly due to its feltingfeature. The bers are strong and will hold together through much

twisting and turning, much like a lock of hair. This feature is what createssuch long lasting garments.
