It is located in northern Slovakia and has an area of 6,804 km². Population is about 688,851.
Žilina region
Žilina region is one of the most beautiful parts of Slovakia. There are 1584 cultural sights like castles and churches.
One of the most famous castles is called „Hrádok“ or „New Castle“. It was buil in 1314.
The Strečno Castle is a Gothic castle in northern Slovakia. It was probably built in 1316 and reconstructed in 1689.
In 1994 there was filmed Dragonhearth.

Liptovská Mara is a reservoir in northern Slovakia, on the Váh river near Liptovský Mikuláš, in the Liptov region. It was built in 1965-1975. It flooded thirteen villages. Liptovská Mara is named by one of them.
