Instruction Sheet for Iron-On Transfers

1. Usinganinkjetprinter,printyourimage.Intheprintmenu,makesureyouhaveselected‘Mirror,’‘Flip,’‘Reverse’orasimilarsettinginyourapplication,ifitisrequired,soyourimagewillbeprintedbackwards.(Testbyprintingyourimageonasheetofplainpaper.)

a. Ifyouaresatisfiedwithhowyourimagelooks,insertasinglesheetofiron-ontransferpaperinyourprinter.Makesuretheiron-ontransferpaperisnotcreasedorcurled.

b. Inyourprinterdrivermenu,selectthehighestdpisettingandthecorrectpapersettingforyourtypeofprinter.Belowaresuggestedprintersettings.Forthebestresultscheckyourprintermanualorwithyourprinter’smanufacturer.

CANON:T-shirttransfers.

EPSON:Highqualityglossypaperorspecialcoatedpaper,dependingonthemodel.

HEWLETT-PACKARD:Highqualityglossypaper.

Lexmark:T-shirttransfers.

c. Setthepaperthicknesslevelonyourprinterforstandardpaper.

d. Printyouriron-ontransferimage.

2.Removeyourprintediron-ontransfersheetfromyourprinterandallowtheinktodrythoroughly.Donothandletheiron-ontransferpaperwhiletheinkisdrying.

3.Withscissors,trimawayanyblankpaperaroundyourimagethatyoudonotwanttotransfer.

4.Transferyourimageontoyourfabricusinganiron.Besuretopreheattheirononitshighesttemperaturesettingforatleast8minutes.Theironmustbeveryhot!Donotusesteam.

a. Donotuseanironingboard,barewood,glass,ormetalsurfaceforironing.Placeapillowcaseontheironingsurfacewiththeopenendhangingovertheedgeandsmoothitflatsothattherearenowrinkles.

b. Placethearticleonthepillowcase(i.e.T-shirt,sweatshirt,apron,etc.)sotheareayouwanttheimagetobetransferredtoiscenteredonthepillowcasesurface.Smoothoutthefabricsotherearenowrinkles.

TIP: You may want to iron the pillowcase and the fabric so that they are both smooth before ironing on the transfer. Be sure to let both of them cool completely before placing the transfer on the fabric.

c. Preheatthegarmentforafewsecondstoremoveanyexcessmoisturefromthefabricandallowthefabrictocool.Thiswillaidintheadhesionoftheimagetothefabric.

d. Placetheimagetobetransferredfacedownonthegarmentinthedesiredposition.

e. Theimagenowneedstobe‘set’onthefabric(sothatitdoesnotmovewhilebeingtransferred).Todothis,presstheironfirmlyoverthetransferfor15-20secondsinseveralareas,makingsuretocovertheentiretransferinthisprocess.Itisimportantthatyoupressstraightdownforthisstepandliftuptheironcompletelywhenrepositioningtodoanotherarea.Then,usingacircularmotionandlightpressure,evenlyheatthetransferforanother15-20seconds.Puttheirondownandgentlyrubthehottransferwithyoursoft,cleanclothfor5-10seconds.

HELPFUL HINTS 1.Useapre-washedanddried50/50blendor100%whiteorlightcolorcottonfabric,

T-shirt,etc.

2.AveryT-ShirtTransferpaperisagoodchoice(theyofferoptionsforLightandDarkt-shirts).

3.Whenwashinganddryingyourgarment,alwaysturnitinsideout.Thiswillminimizetheamountofabrasionthetransferwillencounterwithothergarmentsinthewash.Washthegarmentincoldwaterusingamilddetergent.DONOTUSEBLEACH.

a. Removethegarmentfromthewashimmediatelyandallowtoairdry.Ifyouaregoingtotumbledry,usetheair-onlysetting.Bydoingthisoverthelifeofthegarment,youwillbeensuringyourimagestaysclearandbright.

4. Iftheiron-ontransferlooksyellow,theheatmaybetoohighandisscorchingthesurfaceofthetransfer.Confirmtemperaturesettingis325degreesorcottonsetting.Theheatgeneratedbyironsmayvarygreatlybybrandandmodel.

5. Iftheiron-ontransferisnotadheringtosurface,makesurethebackinghasbeenremovedbeforetransferring.Checkthatthetemperaturesettingis325degreesorcottonsetting.Iftemperatureistoolow,thetransferwillnotreactsufficientlytobondtogarment.Increasepressureontheironasthisallowsthetransfertobepushedinthefabric.

6. Iftheiron-on-transferhasbondedwiththebottomoftheiron,makesuretheironingsheetwasusedbetweentheironandthetransfer.

7. Iftheiron-ontransferiscrackingafterbeingwashedordried,pre-washtheshirtbeforeapplyingthetransfer.Thiseliminatessomepossibilityofshrinkagethatmaystressthetransferredimage.Increasepressurewhentransferringimage;ifinsufficientpressureisused,thetransferwillnotbondproperlywiththeshirt.Theresultingslackmaycrackinthewash.Usingheatwhentumbledryingcanalsocracktheiron-ontransfer.

8. Iftheedgesoftheiron-ontransferarenotadhering,applythemostheatandpressuretotheedgesofthetransfer.Whenhandironing,itisvitaltheedgesareironedextremelywell.

9. Iftheimageisreversedonthegarment,settheprinterforT-shirt,FliporMirrorImage.Consultyourprintermanualorcheckwithyourprinter’smanufacturer.

10.Theiron-ontransferpaperisdesignedforusewithinkjetprinters.Donotuseiron-ontransferpaperwithlaserprinters,photocopiersorwithprintersthathaveaheatdryprocesssuchastheHPDeskJet1200CorHPDeskJet1600Cprinter.Theheatingelementsintheseprinterscanmeltthetransferpaper,whichcoulddamagetheprinter.Ifyouarenotsureaboutyourprinter’sprintinganddryingprocessconsultyourmanualorcallthemanufacturer.
