Separating Fact from Fiction in the Data Center

• In the course of all improvements in hardware: new technologies and older traditional methods are compared

• This comparison will discuss the technologies and Best Practice Techniques as identified by users and includes:

1. The missed communication between the users and the Purchasing Departments

2. The real value and cost of “U” space when using it for something besides servers.

3. What Zonit does for you to lessen the risk and cost.

• Zonit unit with single connector for Server and dual cords for the source power connections.

• Designed for non-synchronous A and B Power sources

• Provides dual power to single power connection equipped devices

Comparisons

• Zonit µATS is connected directly to the single power port device.

• Is available in versions that limit how many devices can be plugged into the same supply, one, two or three.

• Can provide dedicated dual power supply to a device.

• Takes up zero rack space.

• The world’s smallest ATS

• Zonit µATS directly addresses Single Point of Failure concerns

• Limits the units powered from a single device.

• Traditional ATS is a module that is mounted into the server rack.

• Several versions and all with similar design features.

• Multiple plug-in positions, typically 8 devices and powered from the same power source

• Takes up a U space in the server rack for each unit.

• Common practice is to use no more than 2 or 3 (max) of the plug positions

• Problematic when addressing Single Point of Failure concerns

Communication, Clarifications and Practicality

• Zonit µATS quantities are addressed by the plug points needed to supply the single port devices.

• Zonit µATS comes in arrangements for providing dual power to one, two or three devices.

• The opportunity cost is determined by the ability to position racks in the server cabinet. Is this lessened in any way?

• With traditional ATS the opportunity cost is great. The rack space cost can be determined as a position for a server relative to the entire cost of the original project less the servers and connectivity portion.

Cost of Data Center *1 Cost of Installed Rack *2

Project cost per installed Rack

*1 Total cost of example data center includes building cost, mechanicals, all electrical and racks. For comparison purposes 5 million dollars for the total project. Everything except servers and connectivity portion in that number.

*2 Cost of installation for empty rack as part of overall data center total cost 5 million divided by 50 sever racks equals $100,000.0o.

Cost of Installing Zonit µATS*2

Cost comparison of installing Traditional ATS to Zonit

*1 Actual cost is determined by the total project cost divided by number of racks, and then divided by 42u. Cost of $2380.00 plus $950.00 for ATS equals $3330.00

*2 The cost of installing Zonit is cost approximately $600.00, for the Micro ATS only and does not take any U space.

• Zonit μATS is a highly functioning transfer switch at the rack, taking “no” rack space, and provide redundant A-B power to single power input devices!

• The Zonit μATS is the world's smallest and most efficient capable Automatic Transfer Switch for data centre equipment. It enables a completely different approach to the deployment of power in the data centre.

The Zonit μATS™ solves many common problems with power distribution and enables new and highly efficient patent pending methods of power distribution. The Zonit µATS™ has five primary usage scenarios:

• Redundancy Enables redundant power feeds for single power cord devices

• 99.9% Efficient Power Distribution Saves 3-15% of annual data centre power costs

• Increase UPS Efficiency by 3-5% Saves 3-5% of UPS power conversion losses

• Cost Effective N+1 Reliability Eliminates the need for 2nd power supplies in N+1 horizontal server tiers

• Re-Location Flexibility Allows easy “hot swapping” to relocate powered-up equipment. Ideal for doing deployments that are temporary or will be moved at a later date.

• The Zonit μATS™ is available in 12A 120V plus the 8A 240V configuration.
