    This manual describes how to install and use the ZTE UniPOS NetMAX UMTS NetworkMulti-Analysis Expert (UniPOS NetMAX) for network analysis, planning, and optimization.

    Chapter Summary

    1, System Overview Provides an overview of the UniPOS NetMAX system, including the

    location in the network, requirements for the operating environment,

    and the flow for using the system.

    Describes how to install and uninstall the server and client programs

    of the UniPOS NetMAX system, and how to start the client.

  • Chapter 1System OverviewThe UniPOS NetMAX system is a network optimization system for UMTS. It collects allrequired data from a UMTS radio access network for precise fault location and intelligentanalysis. The system helps telecom carriers in network planning and optimization with theaim of offering subscribers an improved user experience.

    The UniPOS NetMAX system provides the following functions:

    1.1 UniPOS NetMAX Location in the NetworkThe UniPOS NetMAX system is used along with the ZTE UniPOS NDS-U system andthe Element Management System (EMS). Figure 1-1 shows the location of the UniPOSNetMAX system in the network.

    l The UniPOS NetMAX system obtains MR and CDT data files from the ZTE UniPOSNDS-U system through FTP.

    The ZTE UniPOS NDS-U system is a Network Data Service (NDS) system thatconnects to the SBCX board of each RNC in the network.

    The NDS automatically and periodically downloads raw MR/CDT data from each RNCthrough FTP, stores the raw data, and generates data files in specific formats requiredby the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    l The UniPOS NetMAX system downloads radio data and performance data from theEMS through FTP, and downloads performance data from the database of the EMS.

    The other required data, including engineering data and UE data, must be obtained fromrelated personnel and imported into the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    After all required data is ready, you can analyze the data and start the network planningand optimization of a radio access system through the client GUI of the UniPOS NetMAXsystem.

    1.2 Operating Environment RequirementsThe UniPOS NetMAX system has a client/server architecture. Two servers are deployedfor processing a large amount of data: the data analysis server (the UniPOS NetMAXserver) and the data collection server (the ZTE UniPOS NDSU server). For the minimumhardware configurations required for these two servers, refer to Table 1-1.

    2.1 Software InstallationThe software installation flow of the UniPOS NetMAX system is as follows:

    1. Install the Solaris operating system when a SUN Sparc server is used, or install theLinux operating system when a PC server is used.

    2. Install the Sybase IQ database on the server.3. Install the server program of the UniPOS NetMAX software on the server.4. Install the client program of the UniPOS NetMAX software on the client.

    Note:

    This manual only describes how to install the server program and the client program ofthe UniPOS NetMAX system because the operating system and Oracle 11g database arepre-installed before delivery of the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    2.1.1 Installing the Server Program in SolarisThis procedure describes how to install the server program of the UniPOS NetMAX systemon the server with the Solaris operating system installed.

    Prerequisite

    l The Solaris operating system and Sybase IQ database are installed on the server.l The installation personnel have the root authority of the Solaris operating system.

    Note:

    The root authority can be obtained from the system administrator.

    l The Secure Shell (SSH) is installed on the remote computer that is used to accessthe server.

    Steps

    1. On the remote computer, start the SSH Secure Shell Client, and establish a connectionto the UniPOS NetMAX server as the root user.

    2. Transfer the installation package (NetMAX_GU_V*.**.**_Solaris.tar.gz) to the/netmax/install directory on the server through the SSH Secure Shell Client.

    3. Execute the following commands to check the Message Digest 5 Algorithm (MD5)code of NetMAX_GU_V*.**.**_Solaris.tar.gz on the server and ensure thatthe installation package is correctly transferred:

    # cd /netmax/install

    # digest -v -a md5 NetMAX_GU_V*.**.**_Solaris.tar.gz

    Note:

    The MD5 code varies with different software versions of the UniPOS NetMAX system.If the MD5 code returned is not same as the MD5 code released with the version, theinstallation personnel should contact technical support engineers for troubleshooting.

    4. Execute the following commands to change the current directory to /export/home/install and decompress the installation package:

    # cd /netmax/install

    # gunzip NetMAX_GU_V**.**.**_Solaris.tar.gz

    # tar -xvf NetMAX_GU_V**.**.**_Solaris.tar

    5. Change the current directory to the directory where the decompressed files arelocated, and then execute the following command to start the installation:

    # ./NetMAXInstall.sh

    Note:

    If the system prompts that the current user has no execution permission on theinstallation file, execute the following command to grant the current user with theexecution permission:

    chmod u+x NetMAXInstall.sh

    After the installation is completed, the install finish message is displayed, andthe server program of the UniPOS NetMAX system is started and operates in thebackground.

    The server program is installed in the /netmax directory, and the database is installedin the/netmax/IQDB directory.

    6. Perform the following operations to verify that the server program is successfullyinstalled:

    a. On the client, start the client program of the UniPOS NetMAX system. The Logindialog box is displayed.

    b. Enter the IP address of the server, the user name and password, and then clickOK to verify that the server is successfully connected.

    c. Perform analysis functions on the client GUI to verify that required data issuccessfully queried from the server.

    Note:

    If the client fails to connect the server, or the data query fails, the installation personnelshould check related logs and troubleshoot the installation failure in the /netmax/N

    etMAX-GU/Server/Log directory.

    2.1.2 Installing the Server Program in LinuxThis procedure describes how to install the server program of the UniPOS NetMAX systemon the server with the Linux operating system installed.

    Prerequisite

    l The Linux operating system (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Sybase IQ database areinstalled on the server.

    l The installation personnel have the root authority of the Linux operating system.

    6. Press Enter to accept the default installation path (recommended), or enter a newpath.

    After the installation is completed, the install finish message is displayed, andthe server program of the UniPOS NetMAX system is started and operates in thebackground.

    The server program is installed in the /netmax directory, and the database is installedin the/netmax/IQDB directory.

    7. Perform the following operations to verify that the server program is successfullyinstalled:

    a. On the client, start the client program of the UniPOS NetMAX system. The Logindialog box is displayed.

    b. Enter the IP address of the server, the user name and password, and then clickOK to verify that the server is successfully connected.

    Workspace Pane

    The workspace pane displays one or multiple windows for data management, statistics,and analysis. These windows are embedded in the workspace pane by default.

    Each window in the workspace pane has a toolbar that provides shortcut buttons forspecific functions in the window. Table 2-2 describes some common shortcut buttonsavailable in different windows.

    You can open a details window by double-clicking the record directly, or

    right-clicking it and clicking View Details on the shortcut menu.

    A maximum of six details windows can be opened at a time. The

    maximum allowable number of concurrent details windows is 10.

    Closes all open details windows.

    Shows data on an electronic map of Geographic Information System

    (GIS).

    Message Pane

    The message pane displays the level, content and generation time of messages. Byviewing the message information in the message log pane, you can get the processingand result information of an operation.

    The messages generated by the system are classified into three levels: Info, Error, andWarning.

    l Info provides the success information of an operation.

    3.1 License ManagementAfter installing the UniPOS NetMAX system, you are required to log in to the systemthrough the client as the super user, and apply for a license before using the system. Thefunctions of the UniPOS NetMAX system are available only after you obtain the licensefile, and upgrade the existing license by uploading the license file to the server.

    The purpose of license upgrade is to grant permissions on the functions related to theNetMAX network optimization tool. No license is required for the client because the clientcan only be used after being connected to the server.

    The subsequent sections describe how to apply for a license file and how to upgrade thelicense on the UniPOS NetMAX server.

    3.1.1 Applying for a LicenseThis procedure describes how to apply for a license of the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    Prerequisite

    You have logged in to the UniPOS NetMAX client as the super user.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select System Management > Server License Management >Server License Apply from the menu bar. The Server License Apply dialog box isdisplayed, see Figure 3-1.

    2. Enter the required information. The parameters with an asterisk symbol (*) arerequired. The other parameters are optional.

    3. Click Create apply file. A message (Create application-filesuccessfully!) is displayed, indicating that a license application file is successfullygenerated in the specified path.

    4. Click OK.

    5. Click Close in the Server License Apply dialog box.

    6. Send the license application file to the specified contact of ZTE, or submit the file on theWebsite http://unipos.zte.com.cn. After the license application is approved, downloadthe license.cer file.

    3.1.2 Upgrading the LicenseThis procedure describes how to upgrade the license on the UniPOS NetMAX server.

    You have obtained the license.cer file.

    3.2 Operator ManagementThe UniPOSNetMAX system supports three levels of operators: super user, administrator,and ordinary user. Figure 3-3 illustrates the relations between these three levels.

    Super user The super user (super) is a predefined user account that has all

    permissions for system administration. You can only modify its password.

    The super user can add, modify, and delete operators on the administrator

    level.

    Administrator An administrator can add, modify, and delete operators on ordinary user

    level.

    Ordinary user An ordinary user cannot add, modify, and delete other operators.

    3.2.1 Adding an OperatorIn the UniPOS NetMAX system, a super user can add administrators and ordinary users,and an administrator can add ordinary users.

    This procedure describes how to add an administrator in the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    Prerequisite

    You have logged in to the system as the super user.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select System Management > Operator management from themenu bar. The Operator Management window is displayed, see Figure 3-4.

    2. Enter a unique name for the operator in User name.

    3. Select Administrator from the Level list.

    4. Enter the other information of the operator as required, such as department, real name,telephone number, mobile phone number, and E-mail address.

    5. (Optional) Select Disable.

    Note:

    If the Disable check box is selected, the operator cannot be used after being addedin the system.

    6. Select one or multiple rights to be assigned to the operator in the Operator's rightspane.

    7. Click Add or the button on the toolbar. The newly added operator is displayed inthe operator list on the upper part of the Operator Management window.

    Note:

    The initial password of a new operator is null. You are recommended to set a passwordfor the operator after logging in to the system as the operator for the first time.

    3.2.2 Deleting an OperatorAn unused operator can be deleted from the UniPOS NetMAX system. After an operatoris deleted, the information of all operations performed by this operator is removed from thesystem too.

    This procedure describes how to delete an operator.

    Prerequisite

    You have logged in to the system as an operator on a higher level than the operator to bedeleted. For example, you must log in to the system as the super user if the operator tobe deleted is an administrator.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select System Management > Operator management from themenu bar. The Operator Management window is displayed.

    2. Select the operators to be deleted.

    The user names of operators cannot be modified.

    3. Modify the basic information of the operator (except User name), and reassign therights to the operator as required.

The created task is queuing in the TaskManagement window for execution.     minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes

    Task Type Pane

    The task type pane on the left part of the window displays all types of data managementtasks in the system. After a task type is selected in the task type pane, all current tasks andhistorical tasks of the selected type are displayed on different tabs in the task informationpane on the right part of the window.

    Tasks in the UniPOS NetMAX system can be divided into two types: Data Managementand VIP user data management. Only one Data Management task and one VIP userdata management task can be executed simultaneously.

    Task Information Pane

    The task information pane contains four tabs: Current Task, Historical Task, AbnormalTask, and Task Setting.

    l Current Task

    On the Current Task tab, all tasks of the selected type that are being executed or tobe executed are listed in the Task info pane, see Figure 3-7.

    After a current task is clicked, the task parameters (if any) are displayed in the Taskparameter pane, and the execution records are displayed in the Detailed log pane.

    l Historical Task

    On the Historical Task tab, all historical tasks (completed tasks) of the selected typeare displayed in the Task info pane, see Figure 3-8.

    In the Query Time area, a time period can be set for querying historical tasksgenerated during a specific period. If no time period is set, the system shows allhistorical tasks of the selected type in the system.

    l Abnormal Task

    On the Abnormal Task tab, all historical tasks with unexpected execution results aredisplayed in the Task info pane, see Figure 3-9.

    l Task Setting

    The Task Setting tab allows you to view, create, and modify strategies for differenttypes of tasks. After a task type is clicked in the left navigation pane (task type pane),or a task is clicked on the Current Task, Historical Task, or Abnormal Task tab,the name of the corresponding task type is displayed in Task type name, see Figure3-10.

    l For an operation automatically performed by the system, the user name is "Unknown".l For an operation performed by an operator, for example, manual collection of

    performance data and radio data, the user name is the name of this operator.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select System Management > Operation Log Query from themenu bar. The Operation Log Query window is displayed, see Figure 3-11.

    Some data can be imported or deleted manually or automatically, including radio dataand performance data. The automatic import and deletion functions are disabled in thesystem by default. Users can set and enable a plan for using the automatic import ordeletion function. If a plan is set for importing specific data automatically, users must set acorresponding plan for deleting the data automatically to avoid insufficient free disk spacecaused by accumulated data.

    Note:

    The default settings are recommended when multiple plans are set for automaticallyimporting or deleting different types of data.

    Data Types

    Table 4-1 describes different data types required for network analysis.

    All fields (required and optional) can be randomly

    sorted in the Excel file. The required fields

    Other data (such as MR, CDT

    and DPI) can be imported

    into the system only after

    engineering data is imported.

    You are not required to import

    the engineering data again if

    no engineering data changes

    in the network.

    Radio data Radio data is collected from all managed RNCs in

    the radio access network by the EMS. The radio

    data is automatically or manually imported into the

    UniPOS NetMAX system from the EMS after a

    connection is established between the EMS and

    the system.

    Performance

    data

    Format: csv.

    Performance data records the values of various

    performance counters in the managed RNCs.

    The EMS collects performance data from all

    managed RNCs in the radio access network and

    stores the collected data in its database. After a

    connection is established between the UniPOS

    NetMAX system and the EMS, performance data in

    CSV file format can be automatically or manually

    imported into the UniPOS NetMAX server from the

    EMS.

    -

    MR data Format: csv.

    In the radio access network, the RNCs record

    measurement reports generated during calls.

    These measurement reports contain raw data

    measured by Node Bs and UEs, such as field

    strength, interference, and signal quality.

    The ZTE UniPOS NDS-U system collects MR data

    from the RNCs and stores the collected data in

    CSV file format. After a connection is established

    between the UniPOS NetMAX system and the ZTE

    UniPOS NDS-U system, the MR data files can be

    imported from the ZTE UniPOS NDS-U system.

    Three methods can be used

    for importing MR/CDT data

    files:

    l Setting a policy for

    4.1 Configuring EMS and NDS ConnectionsTo import the required data directly from an EMS or NDS into the UniPOS NetMAXsystem, you must add the configuration information of the connection between theUniPOS NetMAX system and the EMS or NDS. After the connection configurations areadded, radio parameters and performance data can be imported from the EMS, MRand CDT data can be imported from the NDS. The configuration procedures for bothconnections are similar.

    Note:

    The added connection configurations can be modified or deleted as required.

    The following procedure describes how to configure the connections to an EMS and aDNS.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select Data Management > Connection Configuration from themenu bar. The Connection Configuration dialog box is displayed, see Figure 4-1.

    b. Set the connection parameters, and then click OK. The EMS connectionconfiguration is displayed in the Connection Configuration dialog box.

    The following procedure describes how to import engineering data into the UniPOSNetMAX system from an Excel file.

    Prerequisite

    The Excel file to be imported contains the required fields, including RNCID, CellID, SectorID, PSC, CellLON, and CellLAT.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select Data Management > Import Engineering Data For UMTSfrom the menu bar. The Import Engineering Data For UMTS dialog box is displayed,see Figure 4-6.

    2. Click on the toolbar. The Select File To Import dialog box is displayed.

    3. Select the directory where the engineering data file (Excel file) is saved, click theselected file, and then clickOpen. The system loads the engineering data from the filewith the field names imported from the Excel file displayed on the table header, andautomatically matches appropriate field names in the right pane to corresponding fieldnames on the table header. The exactly-matched field names are displayed in blueon the header (for example, MNC), and the mismatched field names are displayed inblack (for example, Node), see Figure 4-7.

    4. To manually match an imported field name to a predefined field name in the system,click the field name (for example, Node) on the table header, select an appropriatefield name (for example, NodeBID) in the right pane, and then click on the toolbar.

    5. If a data error (for example, wrong parameter value) is found in a table cell, performeither of the following operations under Cell Error Info to modify or ignore this error:l Tomodify the wrong value, click the cell, enter a new value, and then clickModify.

    Note:

    You can select Apply to similar errors before entering a new value and clickingModify to apply the modification to similar errors in other cells.

    l To ignore the error, click the cell, and then click Ignore.

    6. Click on the toolbar. The Import Engineering Parameters For UMTS dialogbox is closed. The system uploads the engineering data file to the default directoryon the UniPOS NetMAX server and displays the progress. After the uploadingprocess is completed, a message is displayed in the message pane, indicating thatan Engineering Data Import task is created. In the Task Management window,the newly-created task is queued up for execution. After this task is completed, theuploaded engineering data is imported into the database of the UniPOS NetMAXsystem, and the task status changes to Task Succeed.

    4.3 Radio Data ImportTo analyze the radio data or use the radio data for neighbor cell optimization, you mustimport the radio data into the UniPOS NetMAX. The UniPOS NetMAX system supportsimporting radio data manually or automatically from the EMS.

    4.3.1 Importing Radio Data ManuallyThis procedure describes how to manually import radio data from an EMS.

    The EMS collects radio data every day and generates an Excel file containing the collecteddata. The file name indicates the date when the radio data in the file is collected. Themanually-imported radio data is acquired from the radio data file generated in the currentday, meaning that only the radio data in the current day can be manually imported into thesystem.

    Prerequisite

    l The EMS connection has been configured in the UniPOS NetMAX system.l The EMS is enabled to automatically output data files.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select Data Management > Import Radio Data From EMS fromthe menu bar. The Import Radio Data From EMS dialog box is displayed, see Figure4-8.

    The EMS List pane displays all EMSs that have been configured in the system. AllEMSs are selected by default.

    2. In the EMS List pane, select one or multiple EMSs from which radio data is to beimported.

    3. Click Immediately import, or click Import at and then set a start time.

    4. Click OK. A Radio Data Manual Import From EMS task is created and queued up inthe Task Management window for execution. After the task is completed, the radiodata is imported into the database of the UniPOS NetMAX system from the selectedEMSs, and the task status changes to Task Succeed.

    4.3.2 Importing Radio Data AutomaticallyThis procedure describes how to set a task strategy for importing radio data automaticallyfrom all configured EMSs at the specified time.

    Different from the manual radio data import, the automatic radio data import does notallow you to select EMSs for importing specific radio data. After the task is executed, thesystem automatically imports the radio data of all configured EMSs from the radio datafiles generated during the current day.

    Prerequisite

    l All related EMS connections have been configured in the UniPOS NetMAX system.l The EMSs are enabled to automatically output data files.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select System Management > Task Management from the menubar. The Task Management window is displayed.

    2. In the Please select a task type pane, click theUMTSRadio Data Auto Import node.

    3. Click the Task Setting tab. The task settings are displayed, see Figure 4-9.

    The task type name can be modified, but the default one is recommended.

    4. Select a period type from the Period list.

    5. Set a start time for the task under Execute Time, and then click Add. The start timeis displayed in the Total execute times in a period list.

    6. Click Save Config. The task is successfully scheduled. When the scheduled timeis reached, the system automatically imports radio data in the current day from allconfigured EMS into the database of the UniPOS NetMAX system.

    4.4 MR/CDT/DPI/MR-EMI Data ImportThe MR, CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI data is required for coverage analysis and specialanalysis. The following methods can be used to import MR, CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI datainto the UniPOS NetMAX system:

    4.4.1 Importing MR/CDT/DPI/MR-EMI Data in Local FilesThis procedure describes how to import MR, CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI data from data fileson the local client.

    Prerequisite

    Data files containing MR, CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI data are ready.

    Steps

    1. On the client GUI, select Data Management > Import MR/CDT/DPI/MREMI DataFrom Local from the menu. The Import MR/CDT/DPI/MREMI Data From Localwindow is displayed.

    2. From the left navigation tree, select the directory of the data files, and then select MR,CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI as required. The available data files are displayed in the rightpane, see Figure 4-10.

    It is recommended to import MR, CDT, DPI, and MR-EMI data at the same time.

After the upload progress is completed, the Taskhas been generated message is displayed in the message pane, and the uploadresults are displayed in the Import Status column. The data files are uploaded tothe default directory of the UniPOS NetMAX server rather than the database of theUniPOS NetMAX system.

    A MR/CDT/DPI/MREMI Manual Import From Local task is created and queued upin the Task Managementwindow for execution. After the task is completed, MR, CDT,DPI, and MREMI data are imported into the database, and the task status changesto Task Succeed.

    2. In the RNC/BSC List pane, select one or multiple RNCs from which MR, CDT, DPI,and MR-EMI data is to be imported.

    3. Under Date Range Of Data, set a period during which the data is to be imported byselecting a start date and an end date.

    4. Under Scheduled Execute Time, click Immediately import, or click Import at andthen schedule a time for importing the required data.

    5. (Optional) Click the Advanced Settings tab, The advanced settings for importing MR,CDT, and DPI data are displayed, see Figure 4-12. Configure the advanced settingsas required.
