Every combine driver has experienced the problems when harvesting rapeseed/canola: the stems of the plants are woven into one another and the pods burst as soon as they are touched by the cutting platform. Losses may make the rapeseed/canola harvest a arduous and expensive business. However, losses caused by the cutting platform are preventable!

Zürn header extensions have proven in the efficient rapeseed/canola harvest for more than 30 years. The superior mechanical drive of the side knives has been proved ten thousand times for direct rapeseed/canola harvest. The table extension reliably catches the seeds which would normally fall on the ground.

Independent agricultural institutes have found out that the losses of direct cutting can be reduced by 300 kg per hectare if a rape header is used. Thus, a rapeseed/canola header extension pays for itself over a very short period of time.

A rape header pays for itself over a short time and even with a smaller acreage: *

• The table extension prevents seeds which are shat-tered out of the pods by the reel touching the ground.

• The side knives cut the woven stems and prevent the whole plant from being pulled out of the crop which would result in pods bursting.

• The auger transports the crop. In the middle, where the auger fingers grab the material and pull it into the feeder house, they rip the pods open in an aggressive manner. Seeds spatter out of the front of the cutting platform. A table extension catches the seeds which would normally fall on the ground.

Summing up, the use of a rape header reduces the har-vesting losses when direct cutting rape seed significantly. The yields rise by 10%.*

But what if the rape header is some distance away back in the yard?

The solution is: VarioSupportThe patented system uses hydraulically movable supports to move the rape header out to a position where the cutting platform can be stored independent of the rape header.

So one is flexible and can decide in the field whether to harvest this field of rape or that field of barley.

The attachment of the rape header to the platform can be done on the transporter. With a manual hydraulic pump one can bring it out of the transport position towards the cutting platform and connect it in the same manner as if it was done on the ground.

For more than 30 years Zürn has been developing and producing attachments for combine and forage harvesters for all manufacturers.
