Features and Benefits

Serial ATA is a computer bus technology primarily for transfer of data to and from storage devices. It replaced Parallel ATA (also called IDE and ATA).

First generation Serial ATA interfaces run at 1.5 gigahertz (GHz) and are known as SATA/150. Actual data transfer rates up to 150 megabytes per second (MB/s) can be achieved.

The release of newer chip technology doubled the clock rate to 3GHz for a maximum throughput of up to 300 MB/s on the next generation. This is often called SATA/300 or more properly SATA 3Gb/s.
