Update Ayvalik
Dedicated to helping the stray and shelter
animals in Turkey through financing educational pro-
jects in schools, financing and organizing
neutering campaigns amongst stray dogs and
supporting the SHKD forest shelter in Istanbul
Fundraising on behalf of the neutering campaign in Ayvalik is well on its way. The same can be said for the actual surgeries. We already neutered/spayed 150 dogs on March 16, 17 and 18; 103 female dogs and 47 male dogs. A large part of the female dogs were also pregnant. Spaying pregnant dogs takes more time and so Murat called in an extra vet to help him. 30 of the dogs are about 4 months of age. These animals will be taken care of for one month to regain their strength and will then be released in the area they were found. 33 dogs were brought in and picked up again by inhabitants of Ayvalik. The remaining dogs were all found in a circle of 3 kilometre from the centre of Ayvalik and will be released again in a few days. The dogs are now staying in the shelter of Ayvalik, with Gulnihal watching over them. Next round The next round of this neutering campaign is planned on April 12 to 16. We will also check if there are cats on Cunda who are now old enough for neutering. We have the funds for this round in April, but after that our money will be gone. We urgently need donations to continue this project. Protocol We received the signed protocol which states that the mayor of Ayvalik will cooperate in the neutering campaign. The municipality agreed on placing staff and transportation at our disposal for catching and releasing the dogs. The dogs will reside at the shelter a few days before and after sur-gery. The municipality will provide food, water, electricity and medication for the dogs in the shelter. As you might know, there were elections in Tur-key and a new mayor will be installed in Ayvalik. The new mayor is more concerned about animal welfare than the former mayor. Who can help? Who can help us by printing and placing flyers at for ex-ample pet shops, vets and libraries? We really need as much publicity as possible for the Ayvalik campaign, in or-der to reach as much donors as possible.

StraydogsCampaign Foundation on the Animal Event
This year the Animal Event in Beekse Bergen (Netherlands) will take place on May 2, 3 and 4! Our foundation will also be present these three days. The opening hours of the Animal Event are from 10:00 until 17:00 hours. We will be selling some special items this year to benefit our projects, such as shirts, bracelets, bags, dog statues and ceramics from Turkey. Make sure to stop by; that is of course if you happen to be in Holland:)

Jacolien, one of our volunteers, visited the Forest shelter? She wrote us to tell that she is happy seeing all the dogs having a good coat, clear eyes and well fed stomach. A clean environment with lots of playing and running space for the dogs. In short: a shelter as a shelter should be. Compliments to Murat and the (3) employees, considering the large number of dogs this is a huge achievement!
