Lazarous: There is life!

There is not only a ‘Different kind of water’ - The Samaritan woman-, and a ‘Different way to see’ - The blind

man. There is ‘Another Life’.

Gabriel Marcel says: "To love someone is to say, you are not going to die forever".

According with the Gospel of John, Jesus began his ministry with His first sign at the wedding in Cana, and

ends with His seventh sign at the funeral, in Bethany, where his friends lived, Martha, Mary and Lazarus.

There is Crisis in Bethany. Lazarus is dead, his sisters mourn his death and Jesus weeps with them. There is

crisis in our daily lives because we are all terminally ill and die and Jesus weeps with us.

There is Crisis in our families, sick children, children away from the Church, children who refuse to believe

and some others that do believe. Jesus weeps and comes to visit us. There is Crisis in the world: natural

disasters, revolutions, wars, injustice, hunger ... Selfishness and greed that poisoned human relations, Jesus

weeps over the world.

There is Crisis in the life of Jesus, His death on the cross touches the foundations of the earth.

Jesus opens our eyes to the mystery of new life, the power of God, assuming our human condition, and cries

because He loves us as He loved His friend Lazarus.

All Jews, same as all of us do now, came to condole Martha and Mary that day.

Yes indeed, we can hug, kiss, and we weep, but we can not do anything to awake the dead friend.

Jesus also went to the house of Martha and Mary, He talked to them and He cried because he loved Lazarus,

and His presence was truly comforting and effective.

Jesus told Martha, "Your brother will rise" Effective word. Promise fulfilled.

Jesus woke His friend and returned him to life, sign of resurrection. That date marks the end of the creation of

humans. That day begun the life of resurrection. Now there is life! Let’s get rid of any burial bands and all that

keeps us tied to death, let us get back to the new life as Lazarus did.

The Church, our community, dressed with the new life, with the grace, must be a place of release and joy, not

a place of mortification and condemnation.

Jesus makes us truly free when He freed us from the fear of death.

It is worth living in Christ! �

Lázaro: Si hay vida!

No sólo hay ‘Otra agua’ –la Samaritana-, y ‘Otra visión’ –el ciego de nacimiento-, hay ‘Otra vida’.

“Amar a alguien es decirle, tú no morirás para siempre”, dice Gabriel Marcel.

Jesús, en el evangelio de Juan, comenzó su ministerio, su primer signo, con una boda en Caná y termina con

un funeral, su séptimo signo, en Betania, donde vivían sus amigos, Marta, María y Lázaro.

Hay crisis en Betania. Lázaro ha muerto. Sus hermanas lloran su muerte y Jesús llora con ellas. Hay crisis en

nuestra vida cotidiana porque todos nosotros somos enfermos terminales y morimos y Jesús llora con

nosotros.

Hay crisis en las familias, hijos enfermos, hijos alejados de la Iglesia, hijos que se niegan a creer y otros que

creen. Y Jesús llora y nos visita. Hay crisis en el mundo: desastres naturales, revoluciones, guerras,

injusticias, hambre…egoísmos y avaricias que intoxican las relaciones humanas y Jesús llora por el mundo.

Hay crisis en la vida de Jesús. Su muerte en la cruz conmueve los cimientos de la tierra.

Jesús nos abre los ojos al misterio de la vida nueva, al poder de Dios, asumiendo nuestra condición humana

en su totalidad, y llora porque ama, nos ama como a su amigo Lázaro.

Los judíos, como todos nosotros, acudieron aquel día a dar el pésame a Marta y María.

Sí, nos abrazamos, besamos, lloramos, pero no podemos hacer nada. No podemos despertar al amigo muerto.

Jesús también acudió a la casa de Marta y María. Jesús conversó con ellas, lloró porque amaba a Lázaro, pero

su presencia fue verdaderamente consoladora y eficaz.

Jesús le dijo a Marta: “Tu hermano resucitará”. Palabra eficaz. Promesa cumplida.

Jesús despertó al amigo y lo devolvió a la vida, símbolo de su resurrección, fecha que marca el final de la

creación del hombre. A partir de ese día comienza la vida resucitada. Ahora sólo hay vida. Despojados de las

vendas, de todo lo que nos mantiene atados, del traje de la muerte, volvemos nosotros también como Lázaros

a la vida nueva.

La Iglesia, comunidad de los vestidos con el traje de la vida, de la gracia, tiene que ser lugar de liberación y

de fiesta, no de mortificación y condena.

Jesús hace al hombre verdaderamente libre cuando lo libera del miedo a la muerte”.

Vale la pena vivir en Cristo!
