USER ACCOUNT

Your Authcate account – “Single Sign On” Your username and your Authcate password allow you to access: • Computers within the computers labs, and other computer areas• Web sites outside Monash• Your Monash email account• The My.Monash portal• Web services for specific subjects• WES, the Web Enrolment System• VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)– Moodle• WiFi


EMAIL

• To access your email: visit http://my.monash.edu, click on the “Email” tab.• Your email address will be: ‘username’@student.monash.edu• NB: You receive important Monash correspondence via this email account…..


MONASH USES GOOGLE APPS FOR STUDENTS


TIMETABLE - ALLOCATE+

• Access your timetable at URL: https://allocate.timetable.monash.edu/• Or http://www.monash.ac.za/students/timetable/ (open www.msa.ac.za click on “Student Services”, click on “Timetable”)

• You may move the default tutorial times allocated on your timetable by selecting a alternative tutorial time with a “pick me” sign next to the appropriate tutorial, AFTER clicking on a specific unit course code such as “COM1010” located on the left pane.

• Timetable only available after enrollment is complete.

•Submit your assignments online here.•Check for plagiarism.•Resubmit to resolve plagiarism issues.•Register for access.


VLE (VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT) KNOWN AS “MOODLE”

VLE (alias: Moodle) is an online learning management system that is used for many units and courses at Monash. It provides a range of learning tools such as on-line lecture material, discussion boards, interactive quizzies & assessments, and submitting of assignments on-line, feedback to assignment, assignment grades, etc.

To logon: go to ‘http://moodle.vle.monash.edu.au/’ or or logon to the My.Monash portal @ ‘http://my.monash.edu’


PORTAL SERVICES – “THE ONE-STOP-SHOP”

The My.Monash Portal: visit http://my.monash.edu

• The Portal gives you access to Info relevant to your Subjects, Web Enrolment System, MUSO, Email, University Dates, Exam Results, Academic History, Timetables, Library Catalogues, etc.

• WES ??: Access WES - the online Web Enrolment System - to enrol in subjects. Click “Re-enrol using WES” under the “Quicklinks” heading, or click on the “Study and Administration” tab and find WES here.

QUOTA’S (USAGE LIMITS/ RESTRICTIONS)

• A file storage restriction of 1GB is applied to your personal drive – “Documents” under “My Computer” -points to a server drive.

• Teaching material is saved to the S-drive mapping under “My Computer”.

• A restriction of 25GB is applied to your email account.


COMPUTER LAB HOURS

• 08:00 to 19:00

Monday – Thursday

(support available until 18:00)

• 08:00 to 16:30

Friday

Some 24 hour locations

Closed on weekends and public holidays


SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS

• Applications relevant to the respective area of studies are

pre-installed on all computers (no need for a student to install). • Also, different applications are assigned to specific computer laboratories, of which teaching

staff are made aware, however the 24 hour laboratories and library computers are pre-installed

with most applications.


PRINTING (PART 1)

• Black and white laser printing - 60c per A4 page • Colour inkjet printing – R2.00 per A4 page • To print, you must first credit your printing account via Student Services – An Account Balance

will appear after you logon to the PC and during printing.

• To print in Black & White, select the printer named “MSABW”. • To print in Colour, select the printer named “MSAColour”.


PRINTING - RELEASE UNITS

•Touch Keypad with Card.•Follow the instructions on screen or guides provided at location.

RESIDENCE INTERNET ACCESS

• Visit http://its.msa.ac.za/ ,click on then “Residence Internet Access”.• Register your PC on-line.• Wait one hour for Internet access to activate.• Configure your Internet Explorer with required browser settings for the campus, shown on the

above Web URL.


PERSONAL LAPTOPS AND COMPUTERS

• ITS staff do not support personal IT Equipment.• Virus attacks: Students are responsible for protecting their own Pc’s from virus attacks,

therefore ITS cannot be held liable for virus attacks caused due to accessing our IT Services.

Students use our services, via personal PCs or laptops, at own risk.
