Specific Skills: Consonants has been designed to introduce and practice consonant sounds. The activities promote learning through fun games and skills-based activity pages. All of the reproducible activities, games, literature suggestions, and learning center activities will provide excellent practice for all students, but may be especially beneficial for those students who are struggling or are slightly below average.

Each consonant letter has four half pages dedicated to that particular sound:• The first half page activity introduces the child to what the consonant letter looks like and helps

the child learn to print and identify the letter. • The second half page activity introduces the child to the consonant letter’s sound. This sound is

introduced through children’s literature suggestions, new vocabulary and easy-to-read words, rhymes, and fun hands-on projects.

• These pages are followed by two more activities that help children learn to discriminate the consonant sound in pictures.

In addition:• There is a review activity after six consonant sounds have been learned, a pre- and posttest for

documenting the children’s progress, and several learning center activities and games.The activities included in this book can meet a variety of classroom purposes, such as activities

for independent work time, used in a learning center, or for whole class participation. Specific Skills: Consonants is a terrific resource for introducing, practicing, and eventually mastering consonant sounds.

“B” Project – BubblesBlowing bubbles is a fun way for children to learn

the /b/ sound. Here is a good recipe for making your own bubbles: Mix ¼ cup glycerin, ½ cup water, and 1 tablespoon liquid detergent in a jar. Have the children use a bubble pipe or straw to blow bubbles.

“S” Projects – SoupGive each of the children a paper or plastic bowl.
