Atoms
Everything is made up of atoms.
In solids, the particles vibrate, and when heated they receive energy and vibrate faster. At one point they start moving but are not free (they
turn into liquid).
In liquid, the particles move around, and when heated they receive energy and break free (they turn into gas).
Plasma
Exists only at high temperatures
Indefinite shape
Indefinite volume
Under influence of a magnetic field
example: Neon signs Lightning Stars
Properties of Solids
Atoms are packed (ordered)
Dense
Has a definite shape
Has a definite volume
Not very compressible
example: Ice
Properties of Liquids
Atoms are somewhat free (disordered)
(Usually) less dense than solids
Indefinite shape
Definite volume
Somewhat compressible
example: Water
Properties of Gases
Atoms are free (disordered)
Much lower density than liquids and solids
Indefinite shape
Indefinite volume
Compressible
example: Steam
Stages

Melting
Freezing
Boiling
Condensation
